OPH has given my husband and I our two fur babies. Both were adopted separately as puppies, with about 2 years between adoptions. Each time, dealing with the rescue has been a awesome from the application process to adoption day. While on first impression the application process appears lengthy there is a good reason and yes, there are some people that do not get approved. More often than not in that circumstance, the dog that you have your heart set on must not have been a good match for you. Their concern is in both the best interest of the dog, as well as the safety and knowledge of their potential humans because after all, both go hand in hand in a 'forever home.' They take great care in their screening of potential adopters and it shows. For example, my second puppy was a feral case. Minimal contact with humans until she reached her wonderful foster home. She would literally hide from humans and would bolt. Even though I had adopted through them before, they still put my husband and I through a screening process. They knew that she would take a good bit of time to come around and wanted to find the best home possible that they felt confident would care for her the way that she would need. Rescues are not breeders. OPH epeciallly doesn't have a turnover quota that they are trying to meet to where they push dogs out the door to whoever is knocking, and they surely aren't "selling" anyone a dog. They are there to save lives, and create better ones for the animals that have had negative pasts. Yes, I am biased when it comes to OPH because both of my dogs are from them. However, I firmly believe that they deserve every bit of positive recognition that they receive. Most definately my favorite organization to contribute to because they are so near and dear to my family's hearts! I recommend them to every person that I get the chance to because I feel that the work that they do and the people that are involved are doing everything right for each animal that comes through. I think that Riker and Lottie would testify that they are happy with OPH as they sleep next to me on the couch!
