My Nonprofit Reviews

I volunteered at Be the Star You Are! Charity from 2007-2012 when I was in middle and high school. I began as a book reviewer, then got more involved in the charity's events and fundraising, before eventually becoming one of the founding co-hosts and reporters on its radio show. Working with Be the Star You Are! was one of my first experiences working in a "professional" setting, and founder Cynthia Brian was instrumental in my growth. She encouraged me and pushed me to strive for goals and dreams I wouldn't have imagined for myself. She did this not just for me, but also for all the other youth volunteers at the charity. Her heart and passion for working with youth and women for literacy is palpable, and Be the Star You Are! charity is fortunate to have had her at the helm for so many faithful years.

I have known the founder of Be the Star You Are! Charity, Cynthia Brian, for over 10 years now, and if anything, time has only made her even more passionate and persevering of her cause. I'm grateful that my very first volunteer experiences as an 8th grader were with her; she' inspired me to continue giving back at a young age and showed me just how many forms "giving back" could take.

Be the Star You Are! Charity is filled with positivity and constantly aims to empower teens across the world. I've worked with this charity for the past ten years and continue to support it because I believe its mission is one of which everyone should always be reminded.

I started working with Be the Star You Are! Charity just before I began 8th grade, back in 2007. It's now 2016, I'm graduating from UC Berkeley in May, and although the amount of time I can now dedicate to working with Cynthia and the rest of the team is now limited, I still appreciate every opportunity I receive to work with them. Be the Star You Are! has given me so many opportunities to explore my personal interests, all while supporting an amazing cause. I will always be grateful for Be the Star You Are! Charity.
