Being a host on Express Yourself Teen Radio has been one of the most rewarding experiences, and I just want to take a moment to share how much I love this program and everything it stands for. Every episode is a chance to explore fascinating topics, share ideas, and connect with amazing hosts and reporters who bring their own unique perspectives to the conversation. Beyond the radio show, Be the Star You Are is truly incredible. This program isn’t just about broadcasting, it’s about empowerment, leadership, and giving teens a place to express themselves in ways that matter. Of course, none of this would be possible without the vision and dedication of Cynthia Brian, who has created such a powerful space for growth and expression. I love being able to talk about space exploration and the wonders of it on the show. I’m excited for everything ahead. Thanks! - Saanvi
I've been a volunteer for BTSYA from 2024-2025, and I've had such a great experience with the organization. Cynthia, who runs the non-profit, is extremely kind, fun to work with, and makes us all feel very happy to be there for any event I've volunteered at. In Be the Star You Are, I contribute largely through volunteering at these events, as well as taking photos and videos to highlight them. The other volunteer students are also amazing to work with, being very passionate about BTSYA and make all the events even more enjoyable. As a whole, Be the Star You Are is an amazing non-profit, one that I would highly recommend any student joining, and such a great environment to be a part of!
I've been working with Be The Star You Are for roughly 6 months and they are a tremendous organization. Cynthia is amazing, and their non-profit work is nothing short of spectacular. I can't say enough good things about her and the organization. If you're looking for a non-profit to help out, this is the one I would highly recommend. I have a Web Consulting Firm (www.celadormedia.com) and I enjoy working with Be The Star You Are more than I do my own clients...LOL. Thanks so much for letting me help out!
As a volunteer, I feel like I have been completely supported by the program. Each event we host has given me an opportunity to lead, like our local Pear Festival, where I gave a speech and helped organize our participation in the town's parade. All of our volunteers have the chance to share their voices through the teen-run radio station and newsletter articles. When I went on the radio show, I was doing something that I would never have had the confidence to do only a few years ago. Additionally, our volunteering events, like our annual Santa day, provide fun ways for me to connect with the people we are helping, and I enjoy seeing how happy they are. I have loved being able to work with an organization that provides me with so much growth and so many opportunities, while doing good things for my community.

Volunteering for Be The Star You Are has been an utterly phenomenal experience. Cynthia Brian is incredibly dedicated to helping people, and I have never met someone who cares so deeply about others. Her attitude is infectious, and she makes sure that those she is volunteering with, along with the people her work is for, receive as much of her attention and guidance as possible. I myself learned important leadership skills when I served as the teen chairperson of BTSYA’s shoe drive with local businesses. Cynthia gave me all the support I needed to push me outside of my comfort zone and ask for donations from local schools, allowing us to collect a total of 1575 pairs of shoes (To learn more about the shoe drive, you can visit BTSYA’s site: https://www.bethestaryouare.org/shoedrive). Additionally, Cynthia has published my written articles in her newsletters, encouraging my inner creativity. The organization is constantly uplifting young volunteers to share their voices because they can make a difference. I feel so honored to be part of BTSYA because I can see how the organization inspires confidence and creativity in young people.
BTSYA is an amazing nonprofit! As a radio host and Pear Festival event chairperson, being a radio host for Express Yourself has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me. It has not only deepened my knowledge but also empowered me to make a positive impact in my community through Be the Star You Are!®. Engaging with listeners and sharing stories that matter has strengthened my commitment to fostering change and raising awareness on important issues. This platform has allowed me to connect with diverse voices and amplify causes that are close to my heart, making every moment behind the microphone truly rewarding. As the chairperson for the Pear and Wine Festival, I’ve had the joy of combining leadership with community engagement, especially working with kids. Organizing this event, particularly with the excitement of BTSYA's 25th-anniversary parade, has been a highlight of my year. Watching children light up as they participate in the festivities and seeing their enthusiasm for community involvement has been incredibly fulfilling.

Volunteering as a radio host for Be the Star You Are is truly a magical experience! Getting to collaborate with so many hosts, reporters, and guests from all across the world is just wonderful. Thanks to Cynthia Brian for being the best producer ever and creating this wonderful, positive community of teens from all over the nation! I love volunteering with BTSYA because it is giving back to our community in such a fun way! Sharing my thoughts on the radio with my peers, volunteering at the Pear Festival, and being an elf at Santa Day have helped me advocate for what I want to advocate for and give back to my community, making an impact as a teen. If you want to make your mark on our community in a positive, fun-filled way, come volunteer at BTSYA! It will most definitely be an experience you will remember.
My daughter has had a fantastic time volunteering with BTSYA. I've watched her grow in her communication, her empathy, and most of all, her compassion. I'm so proud to see her making a difference, changing the world, and doing so through BTSYA.
Being with Be the Star You Are!® and Express Yourself! Teen Radio team has been absolutely life-changing for me. I joined this incredible community right before starting high school, at a time when I was utterly terrified. I had spent my middle school years in lockdown, and the world around me felt like it was relentlessly spinning, with nothing to ground me. Then one quick Google search led me to one of the most profound and supportive communities I’ve ever experienced. From the moment I showed up at the Moraga Faire, Cynthia Brian and the Be the Star You Are!® team welcomed me with open arms. I still remember how a group of smiling teens brought me into the booth and gave me the run-down on everything—not just about BTSYA, but about life, like which ice cream flavor is the best. Just in that day, I found so much joy in reading Cynthia's wonderful book No Barnyard Bullies to kids, planting seedlings with them, and seeing the seeds of literacy grow in them. A month later, I joined Express Yourself! Teen Radio, where I was terrified of having my voice broadcast to the world. But soon, my co-host Sharanya and I were laughing, and I was just smiling and smiling and smiling. This show is completely authentic—no scripts, no overediting, just real, candid conversations from teenagers. Comparing myself to the scared girl I was now three years ago, I know she’d be amazed at how far she’s come. BTSYA has taught me how to laugh, how to connect, and how to embrace my voice as a tool for change. I’m deeply honored to have had the opportunity to work with BTSYA, and it’s been such a rewarding experience contributing to the radio shows, events, and initiatives. I’ve loved being part of a team that makes such a positive impact.
Being a part of this influential organization has helped me grow as a student and a teenager. I feel more confident, knowledgeable and it inspires me to be a role model for my peers! Thank you Cynthia for helping me make a positive impact!!

I was very shy with public speaking and speaking my mind on subjects, however that all changed for me when I joined Be The Star You Are! This radio show allowed me to gain confidence when talking to others. I am now able to talk in a professional manner in Speech and Debate and Mock Trial Competitions. A big shoutout to Cynthia Brian for giving young teens an opportunity to dive into topics they are deeply passionate about!!

Be The Star You Are is a phenomenal website. I volunteer as the Book Review Coordinator and receive book reviews that young people send to me and I upload to the site. The site encourages literacy. They have resources to provide support and inspiration for women, youth and families who are at risk to improve literacy and self esteem which will help with life skills.

I have been involved with this organization for several years as Book Review Coordinator and as such I have seen the reviews and effort put into them by these young people. I have also written several articles on literacy. The site is a testimony to Cynthia and how much she has put her heart into this effort and how it has paid off. Writing articles has even helped me realize more about the importance of literacy. Cynthia is open to ideas, has a tremendous amount of positive energy which is contagious and her work is truly remarkable. She helps a great many people.
I have the great honor as a volunteer to be tagged Kindness Coordinator. I've written articles for newsletters, purchased and shared books, and have greatly admired Cynthia Brian, Founder, for many years. Her dedication to what she's passionate about is evident in all that she does.
Also as a volunteer teacher, I've been able to share Cynthia's books with students who find them fascinating. These books have been a wonderful way to inspire kids to love reading.
Because this nonprofit contributes greatly to the lives of those in need, I continue to support it and highly recommend it to others.

Be The Star You Are remains one of the best charitable and inspirational organizations I’ve ever had the pleasure of coming across. They have started to publish a children’s book series, “Stella Bella’s Barnyard Adventures,” which my daughter loves. Cynthia Brian, herself, even came to our child’s school and read one of the books to the class; then, she donated books to the school! Talk about going above and beyond for the community! I can’t say enough great things about this organization.

This organization has always had the wonderful purpose of taking books that would otherwise be destroyed, and contributing and distributing them to other organizations that benefit children and families in crisis. I volunteer for other charities as well, and I know what a struggle they have all had in the recent economic slow-down. Right now, BTSYA is in the exciting position of having excess books, so they can have a book sale and raise some much-needed money to help further the cause! Watch www.BeTheStarYouAre.org to get in on the sale and benefit both yourself and the charity. A true win-win!

I have had the privilege to be associated with "Be the Star You Are" since last year and had been amazed by the impact the organization has been making in serving the youth community. Ms. Cynthia Brian is an inspiration and is tireless in promoting the local talent and providing global platforms to showcase their creativity. "Be The Star You are" provided the opportunity to our daughter, Sharanya to present her poem (https://youtu.be/R0gKoJfMX5o) and to be featured as part of Human Panel 2.0 in Earth Gratitude festival (https://launchmoxie.com/earthday-gratitude-project/festival-page/). Express Yourself Teen Radio is another great platform from this organization which is enabling young radio reporters around the world to express themselves openly about current affairs (https://www.voiceamerica.com/episode/136919/earth-day).
I love being part of the BTSYA organization as a radio reporter! Ever since I joined this amazing charity, I feel more confident, because my voice has power in this organization. In the Express Yourself Radio Show I created my own segment, “The Scribble” where I can share my passion for writing to teens around the world. Express Yourself is an amazing radio show where the only guideline you have is to be yourself! Also, BTSYA is a huge opportunity for growth for many volunteers. Recently, I wrote a poem for the Earth Gratitude Festival via BTSYA. Volunteering at BTSYA is such a treat! The motto of this charity is directly reflected into every single activity and event it hosts! I have volunteered in two of the events that BTSYA has hosted, the Letters to Santa and the Pear Festival. The Pear Festival was lively, and the vibe was super friendly. In the Letters to Santa event, I had so much fun dressing up as an elf and helping little kids write letters! BTSYA is an amazing organization that has helped me feel like I am part of a close-knit community of people who want to help the world!
Joining BTSYA was one of the greatest decisions I made. In the past year, I have learned important life skills, gotten the opportunity to share my voice, and met so many amazing new people. Volunteering for Be The Star You Are has been a highlight in my life. For almost a year now, I have been blessed with so many opportunities thanks to this amazing non-profit. I have been a host for Express Yourself for a little over 6 months, and in the past 6 months I have felt like I have found my voice, am positively helping the community, and am reaching an audience that I could have never been able to before. Teen talk radio is a supportive environment that I feel safe to share my opinions in. Anyone who joins teen talk radio will have the ability to uncover their passion, learn valuable life skills, and make real connections.
On a lark in March 2004, I wrote a letter to Cynthia Brian asking if she'd like to partner with the Reading Tub, my newly established nonprofit. She said "yes." Fast-forward 20 years and we are STILL working together, helping teens and young adults grow through reading, improve their literacy skills, and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something "beyond yourself."
The BTSYA Teen STAR Review teams have submitted hundreds of reviews and profiles of books written for all youth audiences. Some have read picture books with younger family members, others have read everything from learning-to-read books to young adult novels. To a reader, they have offered thoughtful insight and shared their thoughts on why their peers would or wouldn't like a particular title. They point out content that could trigger and cause emotional harm to other readers. Some have shared personal stories of how a book resonated with them, others how they "hated reading" and reading [this book] has made them rethink that position. Powerful, amazing, and inspiring! And each one shared on our website.
Be The Star You Are has been an invaluable partner with the Reading Tub, and, more importantly, Cynthia has been an amazing resource to me personally and professionally. I have learned so much from her and her teen volunteers over the years. Her dedication and commitment to empowering teens and young adults are awe-inspiring.
I cannot be more honored to have worked with Be The Star You Are these past two decades. There is no better-run, mission-first nonprofit in the literacy sphere than Be The Star You Are.
Such a dedicated and passionate non-profit org run by Cynthia and the team. Cynthia has brought an amazing sense of empowerment and motivation to the young teens like my daughter. I volunteered at Be the Star You Are! Charity from 2007-2012 when I was in middle and high school. I began as a book reviewer, then got more involved in the charity's events and fundraising, before eventually becoming one of the founding co-hosts and reporters on its radio show. Working with Be the Star You Are! was one of my first experiences working in a "professional" setting, and founder Cynthia Brian was instrumental in my growth. She encouraged me and pushed me to strive for goals and dreams I wouldn't have imagined for myself. She did this not just for me, but also for all the other youth volunteers at the charity. Her heart and passion for working with youth and women for literacy is palpable, and Be the Star You Are! charity is fortunate to have had her at the helm for so many faithful years.

BTSYA is honestly amazing. As of now, I've been volunteering as a reporter and host for BTSYA's teen radio show for only a few months, but it's already provided me with so much. It's given me countless opportunities to speak about my interests, have fun, meet new people, and grow and develop as a person. Cynthia Brian is unbelievably kind and supportive, and an amazing leader and mentor all around. I am truly honored to be a part of this team.
I have been working the Be The Star You Are for almost 8 years, and I am forever grateful for the experiences I gained while volunteering with this nonprofit. Founder, Cynthia Brian, has served as a mentor to me since I was 15 years old and first delving into the world of broadcast journalism. Through BTSYA’s radio program, “Express Yourself! Teen Radio,” I was able to gain hands-on experience with writing segments and recording weekly. Even today, I continue to serve as a part-time host and field reporter with my segment, “The Gift of Giving”. I have interviewed countless inspiring individuals, including authors, musicians, activists, war veterans and more. If I weren’t a host with BTSYA’s Express Yourself! Teen Radio, then I would never get to have these conversations.
In addition to radio, I became a published author through Be The Star You Are. I have two chapters published in Be the Star You Are! Millennials to Boomers: Celebrating Gifts of Positive Voices in a Changing Digital World. This was an absolute dream come true! BTSYA’s programming has provided an abundance of creative outlets, and I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I have received through this organization. Thank you to Cynthia Brian for founding this organization, and for continuing to support me in my endeavors!
I've enjoyed my time volunteering and making book reviews with BTSYA for the past few years. The organization has enabled me to spread the joy of reading onto a larger platform, and for that I am forever grateful.

I am forever thankful for everything BTSYA has offered me over the years. This organization deserves all the recognition and support!

My personal experience with Be The Star You Are is, and always has been, fantastic. I started book-reviewing with BTSYA when I was in high school and am still involved today, now three years out of college. Through this charity I was able to become a published author, get interviewed on television, and write & co-host its radio show. I would highly recommend this charity to any young person looking to get involved in the community and/or looking for a career in media. The founder Cynthia Brian is a great leader, mentor, and connection.
Being a reporter and host for Be the Star You Are's Express Yourself Teen Radio has provided me a platform to empower the youth community and make my voice heard. I have strengthened my communication and professional skills by writing scripts and interviewing various guests. Cynthia is a great mentor -- she is incredibly supportive and inspirational. I am so thankful to work under her wings! :)

I have strengthened my communication skills by participating in various BTSYA's radio shows. From writing scripts to interviewing guests, this platform has been providing me endless opportunities for professional development. Cynthia is a great mentor -- there are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how supportive and inspirational she has been since the beginning. I am so blessed and fortunate to work with her and the BTSYA team!

A wonderful charity led by a fantastic, giving, loving person. Thanks for being the Star YOU are, Cynthia! You and your family have helped so many people, keep up the great, inspiring work!

For the past four years, I have been the teen event coordinator and a reporter on Express Yourself! Teen Radio. I have enjoyed it immensely. Through event planning, I have been able to exercise and develop many life skills that I will continue to use in the future. Cynthia has been by my side with reassurance and support every step of the way. This has allowed me to create an impact within my community that, years ago, I could have never imagined- from setting up and running each annual booth at local festivals, to coordinating a fundraiser with Vineyard Vines. Be The Star You Are charity has given me the incredible gift of freedom and empowerment. Through reaching out to and helping others, I have been fortunate enough to learn and grow as an individual in every way possible.
Being on the radio has always been my creative outlet, a place where I can share my thoughts amongst a community full of support and encouragement. Every week, I always look forward to chatting with the hosts about the topics I am passionate about- from tracing the origins of the women's rights movement to examining historical revolutions in depth and analyze their impact on today's world. The freedom to express yourself on this platform is truly unparalleled, and I would highly recommend taking advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to say what's on your mind amongst such a positive community.
When it comes to non-profits, it's all about the achieving results. And that is what Cynthia Cynthia Brian is simply the best at helping kids of all types. As a best-selling author, I work with many tween and teen groups. Never have I worked with a group that is so passionate and creates so much joy, and incredible success, as "Be The Star Your Are." From donating books to the kids who lost everything in the devastating Camp Fire in Northern California to helping kids who just need a mentor, there is no end to the fabulous work they do. I was very proud when she asked me to donate a couple cases of my "Kandide" series of best selling fantasy adventure novels to Camp Fire fund. Cynthia is always there for the kids. It is such an honor to be there for her and work with this amazing organization.
Be The Star You Are Inc. is a wonderful nonprofit that supports children's literacy. My company, Children's Success Unlimited LLC, has had the pleasure to work with Cynthia Brian and her team to donate Blue Ocean Bob children's books to families in need throughout the country following natural disasters and for underprivileged communities. With a focus on youth and a positive message, this nonprofit deserves recognition and support for the amazing work that it does to empower and inspire the next generation.

Be The Star You Are ("BTSYA") is a wonderful charity and radio program linking authors with positive messages to those who can benefit most - at-risk children and families. Cynthia Brian is a dedicated and extremely talented host and leader for BTSYA. Cynthia and BTSYA allowed me to bring my message of purpose, passion and ocean-awareness in The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob to the public and has distributed my books to children who othewise would not have access to them. In this way, BTSYA is a critical link between authors and publishers like me and the families and children with the most to gain from our work. I am grateful to have been selected as a BTSYA guest author.

We thank you, Brooks, for wanting to make sure that kids everywhere get to read the message of The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob. Your spirit of generosity is contagious.
Be The Star You Are changed my life! The organization's founder, Cynthia Brian, is the world's greatest mentor and the most selfless individual I have ever known or worked with. I wish there was an option to rate this nonprofit 10 stars!!! -Henna Hundal

Be The Star You Are Inc. is a phenomenal nonprofit that does amazing work in local communities and internationally. The volunteers are passionate and committed about empowering others and one another. I've worked with this group virtually for the past two years and it has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. Other nonprofits should model their organization after BTSYA because they are great and have such a high impact.

BTSYA is a phenomenal organization that goes above and beyond to help communities throughout the U.S while allowing its volunteers to grow with it. I'm extremely fortunate to be a part of the BTSYA team and have the opportunity to work closely with so many passionate people who are motivated to make a difference in literacy and more. As a second year volunteer with the organization, I've felt nothing but support and understanding with those who I've worked with. I'm excited to continue to see where this group will go! BTSYA rocks! - Liz
I have been a volunteer for Be The Star You Are for almost two years now. I am currently a teen reporter and host for one of BTSYA's outreach programs, Express Yourself Teen Radio. Just the other day, I was having a college interview, and the interviewer asked me whether I often found myself changing my opinions and perspectives about certain topics or situations. At first, I responded, "No, not really." However, I immediately corrected my response as I thought of Express Yourself Teen Radio. Every time we have had a reporter or guest on air with us, I have learned something new. Sometimes, this "new" information is simply a fact that I did not know, but often, instead, the "new" information is a perspective that I did not previously consider. For example, it never occurred to me to see drug use more as drug dependence than drug abuse. It never occurred to me that people who leave their homes for the safety of a shelter often must leave their beloved pets behind. It never occurred to me that the hooded figure chasing me in my dreams might be me. None of these ideas occurred to me until I heard them from a reporter or guest on the radio show. In this way, volunteering for Be The Star You Are gives me not one, but two or three, or even four, more perspectives on a topic. As we discuss a theme, I am often reminded of my personal experiences, and those memories become much more valuable to me as I connect them to our on-air discussions. When I meet people, I have many more stories to tell and many more perspectives to explain because of Be The Star You Are and Express Yourself. Of all the organizations and programs out there, I believe that Be The Star You Are is the best way to better know the world, better understand others, and better appreciate yourself. As a volunteer, I know from experience that as a part of BTSYA, you learn, you grow, and you smile.

Working with Cynthia Brian for Be the Star You Are has been one of the best opportunities and decisions of my life. As a volunteer for Be the Star You Are, I have been able to expand my communication skills in both writing and speaking. With the world constantly changing and advancing, people are becoming busier and busier. As a result, we often find less time to read and write for entertainment or take a moment to reflect on the positive aspects of life. Be The Star You Are reminds people about the small and large sources of inspiration and encouragement in life and ways to overcome obstacles and move forward toward goals. After entering high school, my priorities veered toward non practical and academic-oriented objectives. I can confidently say that volunteering for Be the Star You Are has reminded me of the importance and joy of positive messages and has rekindled my love for reading and writing. Be the Star You Are promotes positive media and literacy in such an inspirational and memorable way that it not only impacts its listeners and readers, but is also a transformative experience for its volunteers.
I am SO thankful I found this wonderful organization, who has managed to bring me so much more than I could have ever imagined. I've been a part of this charity for three years, beginning from the second semester of my freshman year of high school, as the event coordinator and one of the teen reporters on the radio. Throughout the years, my experience with Be the Star You Are has pushed me to explore different aspects of myself, as well as developing leadership skills that will be essential to my future.
I am proud to be a part of the BTSYA team. Cynthia Brian has graciously welcomed my writing, proofreading and researching skills for the nonprofit's books and radio shows, which promote the wonderful cause of literacy through a variety of topics. She is an incredible mentor who deeply cares about helping people see and tap into their inner potential.
I highly recommend “Be The Star You Are!” and give it a very enthusiastic 5 star rating! I have volunteered for several other organizations, but I can honestly say that “Be The Star You Are!” surpasses them all for the contributions to its cause and what it has meant to me as volunteer. Over the past two years, I have had the exciting and rewarding experience to volunteer as a field reporter for the teen radio show “Express Yourself”, from the “Be the Star You Are!” charity. In this capacity I have had the chance to report on numerous topics that are interesting and inspiring to teens. I strongly support founder Cynthia Brian’s life-changing message to listeners to “Read, Lead, Succeed!” and I love the fact that I am helping to provide a positive and empowering message to teens across the country and beyond! “Be The Star You Are!” does so many things in addition to broadcasting, such as publishing inspirational books under the same name, for which I am so proud to have contributed a chapter in its most recent edition. This past year, the organization made a difference with the Hurricane Matthew Relief Project, donating books to organizations in the affected area. It also has many other outreach programs that promote literacy to help women and youth. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization and what it means to me to be a part of it!
Cynthia is such a great leader not only my daughter, but our youth. I appreciate the time and dedication she puts into Be The Star You Are, Inc. and the opportunity she provides!

Wow. Be The Star You Are is a top notch program. In a world where you have to censor content and hover over your child to make sure they aren't listening to anything questionable, it has been the complete opposite with this program. My husband and I do not worry about what our three kids are listening to as the content is very positive and educational. I want Cynthia and the entire crew of BTSYA to know that we appreciate them!!
This amazing nonprofit is so very fortunate to have such a dedicated and professional leader in Cynthia Brian. She leads by example and never hesitates to give credit to others for helping along the way. Many children benefit from the tremendous work of this organization.
I had the privilege of meeting Cynthia Brian several years ago, and she has continued to be a role model and inspiration in all that I do.

Be the Star You Are!™ is an amazing grassroots charity that deserves donations and financial support."
Be the Star You is a terrific team to become involved in! Cynthia Brian works tirelessly to improve literacy opportunities for many who struggle to have the chance to read. Her enthusiasm is contagious and inspires volunteers to join forces to help those in need!
I've volunteered for the be the star you are for about 6 months and have truly enjoyed the experience. Even though I have a small role as a podcast uploader, Cynthia has really given me a different perspective in everyday life through her knowledge she spreads in her podcasts. She has done an incredible job making BTSYA such a wonderful program. Congrats to BTSYA for getting nominated!
"Be the Star You are" continues to excel each year -- giving literacy a boost for thousands of kids around the country. And, by doing that, giving them a chance to really "make a difference" in this world. It is a well run and efficient charity!

Dan you are a first class man with a first class plan. Thank you for all the years of being our shining STAR!
Be the Star You Are! has given me and countless other teens a voice as well as an opportunity to let our thoughts be heard. Each time I do a radio show, I am able to do something unique without any limitations because Be the Star You Are! cares about what everyone has to say. I also love that at any time, I can hone all my passions like writing or music in any kind of charity work with BTSYA, thus making my experience of giving back to the community a truly personal and enjoyable one.
Be the Star You Are is unrivaled in its commitment to promoting literacy and spreading wholesome literature in its community and beyond. BTSYA has offered me so many opportunities as a volunteer -- sharing local teens' messages through the local Lamorinda Weekly newspaper, and writing for the online Press Pass and BTSYA blogs. BTSYA is remarkable in that every member brings an extraordinary and unique contribution to the group to serve an end we all strongly believe in. I've been able to contribute my music skills to spreading the message about BTSYA in the community through lively pop-up concerts. Other members for example contribute their impressive speaking skills through the radio program. BTSYA is committed to empowering teens -- helping them find important and fulfilling roles in the organization, and helping them make a difference in their community. From regular book donations to active participation in local festivals to spread the word of BTSYA, BTSYA continues to serve and empower women, families and children.

Signing up as a volunteer with Be the Star You Are this past summer was my first step to an active commitment in my community, an involvement that has helped me grow beyond my shell and take a leadership role directing concert fundraisers and a writer for the local newspaper. I have organized street performances for BTSYA outreach and fundraising, which I think are a great example of taking the best of one's individual talents and combining them with others' to make a direct and positive impact on the local community, especially using that connection to promote the important cause of literacy. I am extremely thankful for these opportunities and hope to continue exploring my abilities and the possibilities of contributing positively to my community with Be the Star You Are.
After working and volunteering with Be the Star You Are! Charity for the past seven years, I have nothing but praise for its goals of positivity, literacy, and well-being for women, families, and youth across the world. Though the volunteer team at Be the Star You Are! has changed constantly since I first joined, the team dynamic has always stayed the same. Everyone is warm, welcoming, and loves working with others to spread the goodwill of this charity to others. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to begin working with this charity so many years ago!

It's been about five years since I first started volunteering with Be the Star You Are! Charity, and I'm very happy to say that I am still a part of the charity, even as a college student. Joining Be the Star You Are! has given me many opportunities to work with adults on a business level and to broadcast on a radio show. Thanks to these experiences, I have gained more confidence in both my communication skills and in myself. I look forward to continuing my work with Be the Star You Are! and highly suggest anyone interested in communications and media to check this charity out.
Cynthia Brian and BTSYA have helped me out in so many ways! In a fun, safe environment, BTSYA has given me the opportunity to give back to the community and see the joy of those we have helped. I can't thank this organization enough and I can't wait to see the growth that will transpire in the years to come!
Be The Star You Are has amazed me with their efforts in giving teens a voice to be heard. Every week I have the amazing opportunity to host and talk with new people, and I have to say that every person I have talked to has said they had a blast and are proud what BTSYA is doing for the public. I absolutely love how much BTSYA has given me the ability to build in confidence, grow in my talents, help me discover what my passions are, and meeting new exciting people. I am honored to be given the chance to change the lives of people and give a positive influence in the world. Be The Star You Are is not just an organization, it is a family. I love being apart of this wonderful group!
I worked on the radio for Be the Star You Are! for more than three years in high school. It was a huge part of my high school experience and a huge part of helping me find a voice (and find inspiration) through conversations with others. It is a well-run and well-organized nonprofit, where I still felt like I could have an individual impact on shaping the direction of the radio show and the direction of the individuals we contacted to interview. Some of those conversations shaped future decisions for me -- for example, after interviewing the director of Admissions for Columbia, I looked into applying and began to consider those type of top-tier schools. That shift in perspective, like so many experiences with BTSYA, changed my life.
I worked for Be the Star You Are for almost two years in high school. It was the perfect combination of real world experience with close mentoring from Cynthia. Volunteers will find a great place to grow and serve here; I highly suggest it!

I love volunteering for this organization! They are very committed to helping teens which is our future!
I am a young adult author recently interviewed for the program. It was very well done. The young participants were so very nice and professional. It was a fantastic experience.
It's hard to imagine that now in it's 16th year serving women, families, and youth, Be the Star You Are!® has not only survived but thrived as an ALL volunteer charity with no paid employees. Every penny of every donation works for the services we provide to others.

Looking back over the last fifteen years at what has been accomplished by Be the Star You Are!®, I am awed by the creativity and commitment of the talented volunteers from around the world. When I founded the charity in 1999, I had lofty ideas of “If I build it, they will come”. Perhaps I had watched the film, Field of Dreams, one too many times. Yet, despite the heart felt intentions and the hard work, the contributions and donations did not materialize. Be the Star You Are!® has remained a 100% all volunteer charity, which is no easy feat. We have operated numerous programs on a shoe-string budget (that’s less than a beer budget) and I am eternally grateful to our global volunteers and supporters who have kept our small and mighty non profit alive and serving those in need.
A few accomplishments: In March 2014, we celebrated our 10th year collaborating with The Reading Tub to have young people read books then write reviews. Check out http://thereadingtub.com/pdfs/btsya_catalog.pdf. We have published two award winning books, Be the Star You Are!® 99 Gifts and Be the Star You Are!® for Teens. We have broadcast over 120 teen radio shows on Express Yourself!™ Teen Radio, 798 Starstyle®-Be the Star You Are!® programs, orchestrated ten years of national essay competitions, participated in numerous community events, published 310 articles, and thousands of blog posts. Our youth offer a creative space for the young at heart to Express Yourself at www.BTSYA.org and volunteers from Dell are working with our web mistress, Kim Carlson to design a brand new web site for Be the Star You Are!®. And best of all we’ve donated more than $1.7 million in resources to 84 organizations serving over 400,800 families and our volunteers have contributed over 354,900 hours. Check out our twenty outreach programs at http://www.btsya.com/programs.html.
Be The Star You Are Inc reached out to my daughter a few months back and I have to say, I've seen her grow and stretch as she has participated in their weekly radio program. I'm so excited and amazed to see where BTSYA is going in their endeavor to reach out to teens and the public in such a positive manner. In our home, we thrive on selfless serving and we are proud to partner with a program that emulates that in its entirety!
I am a Young Adult author, and was interviewed by several wonderful teens on Be The Star You Are as part of their cultural diversity program. The teenage hosts were articulate and energetic, and we all loved talking about reading great books for teens. Working with BTSYA was a terrific experience. I admire everything this organization is doing to promote and support our youth globally.
To say that BTSYA changed my life would be an understatement. Before becoming a part of this incredible nonprofit, I had no idea that I would love doing radio as much as I do. Even though I’ve only been a reporter and co-host on Express Yourself! Teen Radio for a few months now, I’ve watched myself grow, blossom, and discover one of my greatest passions: radio. Having the opportunity at such a young age to be on a radio program and to speak with some remarkable people from all over the world has been, to say the least, an extraordinary experience. For all the life-changing opportunities that BTSYA has presented to me, I am forever grateful.
Being part of Be the Star You Are has given me the opportunity to read tons of books (which I already did) and help out people by writing book reviews that anyone can access on the website. Spending a little bit of extra time to try to convince a fellow book enthusiast to pick up an excellent book has allowed me to help out my community while enjoying the things I love. Be the Star You Are is an amazing organizations which i am proud to be a part of.
I have had such an amazing experience with Be The Star You Are! They have encouraged me to reach further into my community and to do better. I am always striving to serve and show others that they too can be socially responsible. I believe that BTSYA is an EXCELLENT resource for youth and others to learn how to be socially responsible AND reach for their dreams!

BTYSA never fails to succeed and amaze with their accomplished goals and efforts. This organization has provided me an opportunity to reach out and give back to my community. It also opened doors for me to write with the local newspaper. Whenever I submit my submissions, BTSYA doesn't just glance over them. Cynthia, the founder of BTSYA, edits them once, twice, or even multiple times to make sure that they are published with the best quality. BTSYA brings irreplaceable benefits and contributions.

If, at the start of 2012, someone asked me if about BTSYA, I would've replied that I had no idea what this nonprofit organization provides. However, just a few months later I would learn how BTSYA helps teenagers and other people (e.g. the volunteers themselves) launch themselves into a media-and-literacy-oriented world. I can't believe that it's already been a year since I've been with BTSYA, and mentor Cynthia Brian never fails to impress and improve everyone, including me. She provides great feedback when it comes to articles, and has helped me publish my work in The Lamorinda Weekly. Without BTSYA, I wouldn't have been able to do any of this, so thank you!
I've been volunteering with Be the Star You Are! for more than 3 years now, and the charity has been life-changing in the opportunities it has provided for me. It has given me the chance to reach out to audiences through radio, given me the confidence to share my opinions when meeting strangers, allowed me to connect with others I would never have had the opportunity to be a part of, and helped me to develop a more confident voice in writing. I'm about to enter my first year of college next year, and the life-skills and lessons this charity has connected me with will allow me to pursue a concentration in neurobiology and English because through the radio, I met individuals studying similar interests and I found that I could really make a contribution to these subjects if I used the lessons I had learned from writing, volunteering, and getting to know other members of this team.
This is my seventh year being involved with Be The Star You Are. It has been the BEST experience of my life. I plan on continuing to be a part of this amazing charity, even from the college I attend in Oregon. BTSYA has opened so many doors for me, as well as has given me the opportunity to make a difference in my community. I can honestly say I would not be where I am today without BTSYA and its amazing founder, Cynthia Brian. I urge anyone who wants to get involved in a local charity or support one, to CHOOSE BTSYA.

I have worked with BTSYA for about six years now. What started as casual charity work I was required to do, turned into MANY amazing experiences that I am so thankful for. I have done book reviews and event planning for BTSYA. I even got the opportunity to be published in Cynthia Brian's book, Be The Star You Are For Teens and to be interviewed about it on a local station. As a Journalism major now in college, I am so grateful I got to do those things. While in college I work with BTSYA by contributing to its radio station, Express Yourself.
BTSYA has given me some great opportunities, but also created my love for public speaking, writing, organizing events, and helping others. I would not be where I am today without it.
Best non-profit ever!!!!!
As a professional Public Relations person, I am dazzled by the high quality radio/TV shows BTSYA provides, and the total incorporation of social media into their work. I am currently the PR person for the Bethesda, Maryland chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Like many organizations, we're still expanding into the social media area, Cynthia Brian's work is an example for us!
Given the type of messages teenagers receive from traditional media ("The Hangover, Part II," "Knocked Up," etc.) it is so refreshing to see how BTSYA involves and excites teenagers in a positive way!

Joining BTSYA this year has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. As a volunteer, I write for my local newspaper, which is a truly rewarding and educational experience. It has been an integral part in having me develop as a better writer and journalist. Through writing articles, I can express my thoughts and opinions in a professional manner, while also learning more about others by interviewing them. BTSYA has provided me with wonderful opportunities that will have a tremendous impact on me for the rest of my life. I really appreciate all I have gained--life lessons, writing tips, confidence, and much more--by being part of BTSYA.
Be the Star You Are is a great non profit organization that has given me amazing opportunities. Since I was a child I was interested in media and communications. This organization gave me the chance to really experience what radio and writing for a local newspaper was like. I never thought I'd be able to host an internationally recognized teen radio program. My love for radio and journalism has solidified because of Be the Star You Are. I am forever thankful for the opportunities and doors BTSYA has opened for me.
Be the Star You Are!® is one of the best nonprofit organizations that I have ever volunteered for. Cynthia Brian, the founder, is a dedicated leader whom I've learned so much from. It's been more than three years since I first joined this community as a Star Volunteer Researcher, and this year, I was appointed as Show Administrator of the ExpressYourself! radio program under Be the Star You Are!®. All the opportunities I received from this organization has gifted me with experience and skills that would undoubtedly help me in the future.
Be the Star You Are!® has altered my life drastically; it has motivated me and helped me gain a positive outlook for my future. I am inspired everyday as I volunteer with this community of star leaders!
BTSYA has given me opportunities I would never had dreamed of. I just started volunteering with this organization last year, but it's already made an impact. Cynthia Brian, the founder, is such a supportive mentor in my volunteering for a cause that I would fight to the end for.
I was involved in various projects with Be the Star You Are! for 5 years, and in that time had the opportunity to get to know this inspiring charity inside and out. I began on the book review team, which I felt has always helped provide excellent tools for educators and youth to find good books that they are interested in and hopefully go on to develop a lifelong love of reading. This project also provides new volunteers with a way to become involved in the charity and to potentially develop a passion for the charity’s causes.
As I gradually became involved in more projects with the charity such as events and online sales, I was truly able to sense the passion and dedication that founder Cynthia Brian and her volunteers bring to their work. Those involved with BTSYA exemplify commitment and constantly inspire the best out of each other. From knowing Cynthia and being influenced by her example, I have personally grown as a reader, a writer, a contributor to the community, and a young adult in general. The mission statement and a dedication to carrying it out has pushed me and my peers at BTSYA to bring energy, creativity, cooperation, compromise, hard work, and a knack for problem solving to whatever tasks we are faced with. Creating the leaders of tomorrow begins with empowering the youth of today, something BTSYA really does for those who are involved it. BTSYA gave me the opportunity to have so many valuable and hard-to-come-by experiences, from book reviewing to volunteer coordinating to event planning to, most recently, radio starring and hosting.
We all know about the extensive contributions that BTSYA makes to the larger community—book donations to disaster relief efforts such as Hurricane Katrina, a long list of beneficiary organizations, thousands of dollars worth of books donated to those in need, a top-rated radio show by and for teens, and the list goes on. To add on to that, BTSYA is equally effective in empowering its own young adult, men, and women volunteers. The charity truly sheds a positive influence on all those affiliated and empowers us to become the stars within us!

To my great pleasure, I have been a volunteer with Be the Star You Are! charity for almost a decade now - I started out doing book reviews at the beginning of middle school, and am now a sophomore in college. Throughout my years working with the organization, I've had the opportunity to be a book reviewer, radio reporter, event planner, writer, and a whole range of other roles. In each one of them, I not only gained a whole set of unique skills and experiences, but also felt that I was able to make great contributions with my time. Be the Star You Are! is one of the most versatile nonprofits that I've been fortunate enough to be involved in, and also genuinely lives up to its motto to empower youth, women and families. I give BTSYA my highest recommendation!
Since I won Honorable Mention in the Be the Star You Are!® National Essay Contest when I was fifteen, I've been involved with the charity. From writing book reviews, to being the event coordinator, and a reporter on the radio show, Express Yourself!™, it's been a rewarding experience. I'm now a freshman in college and still involved. I enjoyed singing live on the air for our Thanksgiving and One Year Anniversary Radio Special. I've had such a fun and enjoyable time volunteering with BTSYA.
I never thought I'd be published in the newspaper or be the host of the #1 teen radio show in the world, but because of the mentorship of Cynthia Brian and Be the Star You Are!® charity, I am living the dream. Volunteering with BTSYA is a great training ground for life in the real world. I love the journalism/media career but even if I don't choose that career, there are so many valuable skills that I've learned from this experience.

Cynthia is an amazing person. She is really passionate about helping young people find a voice in a community where teen opinion is usually repressed. Working on radio with her is exciting and always broadens my horizons. Without Cynthia, I wouldn't have been able to explore radio. Radio is something that I've come to love doing and it's a great hobby of mine. It's unthinkable that I might not have been able to find this passion of mine. Cynthia tries really hard at everything she does, whether it's events like Moraga Faire or weekly radio. She's constantly helping everyone push themselves and become better at what they love doing.
Because of Be the Star You Are!® charity, I get to use my interests in economics while being a radio reporter on Express Yourself!™ and I have a technology column in the newspaper. It's great to volunteer with a charity that actually lets me grow my talents and interests! It is an awesome non-profit that not only does great work but really offers an opportunity for anyone to get involved and apply their own unique and individual skills.
This is my first year in BTSYA, and my experience has been wonderful. The whole system is well organized and well managed. The communication between the editors and writers is immediate and constructive. BTSYA gives students like me the chance to contribute to charity in a fun and educational way that encourages them to share their voice in society. For this reason, I rate them as a five star organization.
When I first joined BTSYA, I did not know there was such a public way for teens to express their thoughts and views to the world. By getting involved and contributing to this organization, I see numerous ways that teens can be heard and realize how much our opinions can matter. By writing for the Lamorinda Weekly, I have the opportunity to express my views and the views of teens in our community as well as improve my writing. I can also help others by doing something I am passionate about.
I appreciate the opportunity BTSYA provides me with and plan to continue to participate in this organization for many years in the future.
I have loved to be a part of this charity for the past year. After any natural disaster, Be the Star You Are immediately responds with action. The radio show produced by Starstyle Productions has also been fun to be a part of. In a society that places so much emphasis on teens growing up and problems with peer pressure, it's great to have a charity dedicated towards making sure teens are all that they are supposed to be, with positive influences in the media. Be the Star You Are allows for good interactions with other teens who also are interested in the same things as you.
We at the Good-Earth Store have been donating a percentage of our profits to Be The Star You are for over a year. One of their main goals is to promote literacy which we believe reduces other social issues like crime and teen pregnancy, as it gives people self worth. We also know that our dollars are well spent on the cause, not someone's salary.
I am a volunteer at Be The Star You Are and I cannot think of a better charity to devote my time to. The leader, Cynthia Bryan, is among one of the nicest people I have ever met and is solely out to help kids as much as she can. This organization is by far one of the better and more productive ones out there!
I came across this group by browsing through volunteer's pages form an internal website from my company. I read about them to know exactly what they did and decided to volunteer. Only minutes after I sent my request, an e-mail came back with the response. I was very happy to know that I could help them, and it was awesome to read the kindness in the group's e mails.
This organization and the work of Cynthia Brian offers a great value to young people yearning to express themselves. In addition to various performing offerings BTSYA is a literacy organization and as such helps lift young people in two vital ways. First by gaining knowledge and then by expressing is in creative ways.
BTSYA is a great way that teenagers reach out to other teenagers and give them a voice in their world. It also gives teens the opportunity to experience what it's like to work as a radio broadcaster, technician, photographer, etc. in the future. In addition, Cynthia Brian is a great supporter who dedicates 100% to help her volunteers achieve their dreams.
Be the Star You Are has participated every year in the Moraga Community Faire that I have organized for 6 years in our town. They have been so generous in providing many, many art projects for children free of charge. The organization also provides plenty of youth leaders to assist the children who stop by. This year they brought a lot of technical equipment for radio broadcasting and set up a very attractive display of their materials. They had innovative ways to entice teens and adults to record an experience or a promotion for a later broadcast. I found the teen who interviewed me for a broadcast to be very competent in guiding the discussion and asking me relevant questions. I think they are definitely worthy an art and culture award.
I was one of two videographers for the radio show for Express Yourself, which is a teen radio show, supported by Be The Star You Are (BTSYA). BTSYA and the Express Yourself radio show was set up in a booth at the Moraga Faire. I was surprised and pleased at the professionalism and expertise of the teen radio announcer. All the volunteers were eager to help, and did a great job. Cynthia Brian kept the BTSYA booth running smoothly and efficiently. This is a terrific program for kids and teens. I think that we need a whole lot more of Be The Star You Are and the Express Yourself radio show.
Great organization! Cynthia is an amazing role model for kids and many others! I am so proud to have my son a part of her organization!
Be the Star You Are!® under the outstanding support and guidence of Cynthia Brian has been able to create the Express Yourself Teen Radio program which is the #1 listened to program on Voice America Kids Channel. This program really does give our youth a voice in the world. When Teens Talk the WORLD Listens. Great Job everyone!!!
Cynthia Brian manages Be the Star You Are! in an exceptionally gifted manner. Her enthusiasm and motivation serve as tremendous support for not only the people served by the organization, but also the volunteers and staff working for BTSYA! She's a natural leader. I've worked with her, performed on radio with her, and promoted her and the nonprofit's efforts in my publications for several years. She never fails to impress, and her position as role-model has catapulted others into new lives, all because they crossed the paths of Cynthia and BTSYA! Phenomenal example.

Be the Star You Are! is a phenomenally empowering organization for teens, teen advocates, writers and human beings period. I've followed their rise for six years, participated in the radio shows, donated to their causes and even written a chapter for their recent project Be the Star You Are! For Teens - the chapter on HOPE. I can't say enough good about these people and their leader, Cynthia Brian, a true Renaissance woman who lets nothing stand in her way to do good for others. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan. C. Hope Clark, Editor FundsforWriters Writer's Digest's 101 Best Websites for Writers, 2001-2010 Ten years of recognized excellence

The all volunteer staff is a dedicated group that upholds the mission of BTSYA which is a direct result of its founder, Cynthia Brian.

We wish we could clone Cynthia, too. Thanks Bill for being a sponsor and for gracing the airwaves with us. You are tapping the source.
Ever since I began volunteering for this organization, I've felt a resurgence in self-motivation and pride in knowing that I'm making an impact on community. I believe there is no other charity that is more winning and passionate about changing lives as this one. The hard work and dedication put into this charity by its leaders are evident by Be the Star You Are!®'s steady growth and stunning accomplishments. This organization extends its help in multiple ways, whether it may be from inviting guest authors to speak in its radio program or collecting and donating books to help fight against illiteracy. While working with Cynthia, I can truly sense her incredible dedication towards all of whom Be the Star You Are!® serves. It's a rewarding experience working for this charity!

Katherine you provide such a great service-always ahead of schedule and so professional. We hope that one day you'll be in N. California to meet the volunteers! Thanks.
It has been my pleasure to know Cynthia Brian and her talk show Be The Star That You Are for many years. Recently I broke off from my career in public relations to pursue a dream in opening my own equine assisted therapy business. So I have had the unique experience of both booking guests on Cynthia's show for over a decade and getting the glowing responses from our clients as to what a consummate professional she is but also just this past month was invited to be a guest on the show and got to experience first hand the truths behind all those credits. Be The Star That You Are is a very special showcase and brings to light so many very important issues, ideas, and concepts that truly stands to educate, inform and enlighten the audience to cutting edge therapies, lifestyle missions and tips to lead a productive and fulfilling life. Cynthia brings this cadence with each show and also makes everything she talks about interesting, I think because she is genuinely engaged in learning and growing for herself which makes it an open and inviting platform for her listeners. It becomes clear that she is passionately guiding this program and its purpose to help those around her to live more fully and with happiness. It is my pleasure and honor to be a part of this mission!

Be the Star You Are!® 01/26/2011
Wonderful to know you are living your passion and being the star you are. Thank you for your allegiance and friendship to Be the Star You Are!®
Since 1998 I have had the privilege of writing, producing, and hosting the weekly radio show, Starstyle-Be the Star You Are! under the auspices of Be the Star You Are!® charity. What started out as a small broadcast has transformed into an internationally acclaimed positive media program that is fundamental to the outreach of the charity. The program is proud to be part of the Voice America/World Talk Radio network. More than 2000 authors and experts have been interviewed.
I have been impressed with Be the Star You Are! for two main reasons. First, the organization is attacking the key root cause of illiteracy: at-risk children do not have access to appropriate books. Researchers have shown that simply surrounding children with more books helps improve literacy rates. BTSYA has succeeded in donating more than $1.6 million worth of books to those who need them most. BTSYA works with other nonprofits to understand their needs and give books that are positive and appropriate. As a result, libraries, day care centers, battered women's shelters, and juvenile detention halls now have quality books. The second key strength of BTSYA is that our donations go to programs. We are an all-volunteer organization. Our founder has key relationships with publishers to get books for free. Our organization handles the shipping and matching the books with nonprofit groups in need. The bottom line is that we leverage a lean budget through our innovative partnerships with the publishing industry and the dedication of our founder and volunteers.
I have been involved in various projects with Be the Star You Are! for 5 years, and in this time have had the opportunity to get to know this charity inside and out. I began on the book review team, which I felt has always helped provide excellent tools for educators and youth to find good books that they are interested in and hopefully go on to develop a lifelong love of reading. This project also provides new volunteers with an easy way to become involved in the charity and to potentially develop a passion for its causes. As I gradually became involved in more projects such as events and online sales, I was truly able to sense the passion and dedication that founder Cynthia Brian and her volunteers bring to their work. Those involved with BTSYA exemplify commitment and constantly inspire the best out of each other. From knowing Cynthia and being influenced by her example, I have personally grown as a reader, a writer, a contributor to the community, and a young adult in general. Her undying optimism and especially her can-do attitude constantly inspire and become instilled in those around her. We all know about the extensive contributions that BTSYA makes to the larger community—book donations to disaster relief efforts such as Hurricane Katrina, a long list of beneficiary organizations, thousands of dollars worth of books donated to those in need, a radio show promoting literacy, etc. To add on to that, BTSYA is equally effective in empowering its own young adult, men, and women volunteers. The charity truly sheds a positive influence on all those affiliated and empowers us to become the stars within us!
Be the Star You Are! is a charity I decided to volunteer for b/c I believe in it's mission and the strength and commitment of its leader and contributors.
I live in Washington State, and my Aunt in California was a volunteer with Be the Star You Are! charity. She asked for my help to create a flyer for a fundraiser, and that rapidly developed into being the long-distance webmaster for the organization. Cynthia Brian is so much fun to collaborate with, and her true passion for the cause is contageous. In the purest nature of a non-profit, there is no money spent on staff or fluff. This work is all-volunteer, and money raised all goes to the good works of the program. You just have to read the reviews and praise on the website to know how many people have been helped and truly touched by Be the Star You Are!
I felt empowered by writing reviews for books that were to go directly to youths in poor areas. As a former school teacher it was empowering to have a chance to help the cause of education in schools , the cause of literacy thru encouraging the pleasure of good reading. Cynthia Brian is an inspiration in herself and one who inspires reaching for a higher self committment. She has been indefatigueable in her determination to improve the lot of those more in need. Many volunteers have been trained by Ms Brian and are the better for it. I am proud to be included in her charity.
Amid the darkness of drugs, violence, poverty, and illiteracy, Be the Star You Are! shines through, providing empowerment to women, families, and youths-at-risk through various programs and activities. Their charitable works include donating books to various organizations, such as New York Fire Department Family Crisis Center, Wings to Fly, and Community Substance Abuse Center; and a weekly Be the Star You Are! radio program. A great nonprofit always has a great leader; this holds true especially to Be the Star You Are!; its founder, Cynthia Brian, has devoted her time, effort, and love to reaching out to those in need. You can instantly feel her warmth and contagious optimism when you talk with her; I know, for I was honored to be her radio guest four times. Whenever I support Be the Star You Are! I know that my contributions will go directly to motivating, inspiring, and empowering each woman and youth to become the true star they are!
I am the guest coordinator for Be the Star You Are! radio program with producer and host Cynthia Brian. Cynthia Brian is a dedicated and positive individual who tirelessly works to serve others. Be the Star You Are! is an upbeat outreach program that serves to increase literacy on the air. Broadcasting live since 1998, it serves as an important example of how we can all be a part of sending positive messages to the world. Our guest authors also really benefit from the show. Here are just some of the praises for the show: "I heard the interview and enjoyed it very much. I even enjoyed the interview before mine...I would love to come back on your show in the near future." Sheila Singleton, author of Watchful Eyes "I am again amazed at how skillfully and intelligently Ms. Brian structures the interview and moves it along. She has the intellectual breadth as well as the skill to be the first rate hostess she is." Hank Jensen, radio listener "What fun being interviewed by you. Relaxed, friendly, interesting. I was especially impressed by how thoroughly you'd read our 2 books and understood them...That's a fine service you provide to people with interesting books and projects...I'd love to be on your show again any time. Thanks a bunch to you!" Nancy Rekow, author of Minnie Rose Lovgreen's Recipe for Raising Chickens
I am a volunteer with the Porter Billups Leadership Academy in Denver. The Academy works with low income children in the metro Denver area. Students spend three weeks on campus at Regis University in Denver every summer. The focus is on academics and life skills. The intent is to prepare them for college. The Academy has a high success rate. A high percentage of its students are accepted to and graduate from college. This year we will be using
To find out more about a charity, volunteer for them; and then while you are there, working, take a look around at the other volunteers. Hard work and perseverance goes hand in hand especially with "Be The Star You Are" charity. Volunteers for this charity are willing to give their time; you can see it in their faces, the smiles are unbeatable. A great bunch to work with. Cynthia Brian is upbeat and a pleasure to work with!
Cynthia is a empowering and energetic role model for women and girls. She knows her passion and listens to her heart and achieves her goals. There is nothing more exciting than knowing people who exude the energy of endless possibilities. These women are needed in our lives and communities if we wish to see what is attainable. Be the Star You are Inc. and Cynthia as the leader, is a role model that we all should know.
Be the Star You Are! is a small, grassroots charity that delivers big time results. Almost all of the charity's volunteers are teenagers who are gaining leadership skills while they give their time and energy to fulfilling the mission of the Be the Star You Are! which is distributing positive books and media to at-risk youth and women in the community.

This organization has touched and inspired thousands of lives to achieve their greatest.
I had the privilage of interviewing and exploring Be the Star you Are founder Cynthia Brian. This is an amazing group of people that have compassion for women & the youth. What is truly amazing is that the majority of the volunteers with this group are teens wanting to make a difference in the world. Cynthia has created such an amazing organization filled with compassion and action it naturally draws others to it.
Since 1999 Be the Star You Are!r 501 c3 has offered the opportunity to make a difference for women and families by providing books, audio tapes, CD's and other empowerment resources to those who can't afford them. I've had the privilege of speaking to women as well as working with the young teens to help them move forward in life.
