Review for Hairy Houdini Siberian Husky Rescue, Waterford, MI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

7 years ago my husband wanted a husky so we bought Misty Day our black and white from a backyard breeder. She was a medical and behavioral nightmare so I reached out to HHSHR for advice. Fast forward to today we fostered and failed with Ash red and white and Freya cream sisters pulled from the same shelter 2 years apart. How could I say no? The adoptees have regular monthly husky walks at various Michigan parks. It’s so fun we drive from Ohio to go. Volunteers needed for fostering and please adopt DO NOT SHOP ❤️

So I first got involved with HHSHR about four and a half years ago because the husky puppy that my husband puchased from a backyard breeder was a medical and behavioral nightmare and I didn’t know what else to do. Misty Day came home from the breeder at 7 weeks of age and once she started pooping she never stopped. Diarreah. Everything from bacteria to parasites was ruled out. She had both and also has food allergies. After 2 months, I dropped her off at my vet and told them to call me when she has a normal poop. Four days later they told me to pick her up. Even with iv medication and a chicken feather rx diet from royal canin, Misty Day still has the runs. So I googled husky rescue on petfinder and I got in touch with Cherie. I did not call to give her away, I called for help. Cherie saved my sanity and Misty’s life. She told me to feed raw. And so I did. And she referred me to a brilliant in-home dog trainer that helped a lot with the behavior issues. Since those hours of phone calls back and forth full of advice, I have fostered two for HHSHR and failed with Ash. She’s a Wooster puppy. We fostered Rook a few years ago. I also volunteer my time screening references for incoming adoption applications. I help coordinate an adoption event once a year at Yark Subaru in Toledo Ohio where I sell cars. Thank you Cherie and all of HHSHR for what you do. Ash is red and Misty Day is black. Did I mention I have never met Cherie since we are in Ohio and she’s in the UP? Even more amazing :)

These volunteers care not only about the dogs in their rescue, but they also care about my Huskies, your Huskies, and all Huskies in general. They work with many other rescue groups and shelters to try to help put Northern breeds into better situations. Please help - if you can - Foster, donate funds, food, or your time at events. So many other groups just go through the motions. HHSHR is the real deal.
