Review for Operation Paws for Homes, N.Chesterfield, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We adopted from Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) in February, and had a great experience. We were recommended to them by a friend who had adopted dogs from them when they noticed a Great Dane was soon to be available. The volunteers were very accommodating in having us and our current dog be able to meet the potential adoptee (Bowser; was Zous). Since we all got along well, and Bowser had a great personality, we decided we would bring him home.

However, due to his heartworm, we would have to wait. OPH took care of the heartworm treatment and the 2 weeks of rest he needed after it.

OPH also made it very easy and convenient for us to pick up Bowser when he was approved to go. They let us pick him up in the evening after work, which made it much, much easier for us. They had all the paperwork ready, and went through all of it and Bowser’s medical records with us so we could hand them off to our vet.

I should also say that when we took Bowser to our vet the next day, she remarked on what good condition he was in, so OPH also gets great marks for the foster care they provided.

Bowser is settling in well, and we are very happy to have him as part of our pack. He’s still on some activity restrictions due to the heartworm treatment, but he acts like he’ll be ready to run and play as soon as that’s over.

Many thanks to OPH for making all of this possible for us, especially Mindy for getting us through the application process, Cheryl for fielding all of our heartworm treatment and care questions, and most of all Kris for taking such good care of him while we waited and being very flexible with scheduling our visits and pick up!
