Review for Mobile Mutts Rescue Transports, Champaign, IL, USA
Southern states are over-burdened with pets, and the euthanasia rates in Southern shelters can reach 90% or more. This is due not only to families unable to provide for their pets financially, but also to the low rate of neutering and the lack of laws preventing animal abuse and abandonment.
Mobile Mutts is truly exceptional in its mission. It begins with each dog being vetted by a Mobile Mutts volunteer. Every dog transported is first given the medical attention that he needs, and an evaluation of his temperament for transport. Most dogs are first placed in foster homes, where a volunteer observes his behavior and acclimates him to socializing with both other dogs and other humans.
When a dog is chosen for transport, the 'receiving' rescue organization is notified, and has the final say in acceptance. The receiving rescue commits to the animal for life, and with each rescue another beautiful pet is spared from death.
Mobile Mutts plays the critical role of delivering the dog from the 'sending' shelter to the 'receiving' rescue. Without Mobile Mutts, the two could never connect.
There are many transport organizations who bring dogs up from the over-burdened South to the 'enlightened' North. I've worked for several.
Mobile Mutts is exceptional, and has no equal. From the incredible organization of an all-volunteer hierarchy, to each driver who volunteers his time each week, they save more dogs in one week than any other transport organization will do in several months. Every transport is closely monitored, and the safety of the animals, and the transporters is paramount.
Each week MANY volunteers work 20-40 hours coordinating the effort to save up to twenty dogs per week, every week of the year. To date Mobile Mutts has rescued more than 3,000 dogs,
Mobile Mutts Rescue Transports is truly a GREAT nonprofit, and NO ONE within the organization is paid a dime!
