Review for Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, Richmond, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I went to this camp the summer of 2014 and I came back not someone different, but changed, a better version of myself.

I knew vaguely of what the camp was about but never would I have guessed everything it would come to mean to me. With a week long camp you expect to learn a few things, do camp-y things that a school would send you to, but this was life changing.

The minute you got off the vans you were no longer just some kids that were sent to camp you were delegates sent to change your school, your community, your world view. Treated with respect, every opinion was valued and even put on the "Wall of Learning", the mentors there were some of the most amazing people I have had the opportunity to meet and I wish I could do justice to all that was taught to me.

I use in my everyday life the tools and information learned at camp, taking time to educate others and stop myself from making the uneducated choices I would have made. Minds change and so do people and I have seen a difference in the people I have been able to talk to and learn from.

I made friends that I still talk to now and I feel are in it for the long haul.

I could never properly express for how much this camp did for me. I cried so much while I was there and just thinking of it makes me want to cry. It was reality, being broken out of your bubble, and I can never sing enough praises. I could never repay how much I have gained from what I was taught and how much it has impacted my life. Brilliant. And I hope I can help even one person the way this camp helped me.
