Review for Phoenix Patriot Foundation, Temecula, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I first met Guy during my first Leadville event in 2012. At that moment I had no idea what the Phoenix Patriot Foundation was but I soon found out. My goal at Leadville was to complete the race under sub 9 with the help of my friend Bruce. We met guy during the race and he took noticed of our objective. Being a below the knee amputee, completing a sub 9 on my first attempt would be difficult but not impossible. Needless to say Guy abandoned his race in order to help Bruce to help me achieve my goal. Unfortunately we missed the cut off by 7 minutes, 9 hours and 7 minutes. The following year I returned and I achieved my goal.

I kept in touch with Guy from time to time, sometimes seeing him at Leadville with other PPF riders. In the Winter of 2014 Bruce and I decided to join and become Ambassadors for the PPG cycling program. Our mission was to take a handful of Veterans back to Leadville and help them accomplish their goal by pairing them with another Veteran or civilian for support. The cycling program is growing and I am grateful to be part of this great movement. I am excited for future events in which we will send and take more Veterans so that they can challenge themselves not only physically but also mentally. That being said, I believe that cycling plays a huge role in the recovery process for any individual who suffers or has been through a traumatic event. I have already learned much from this and I look forward to learning so much more and helping others achieve their goals.
