Review for Pound Animal Welfare Society Of Montclair Inc., Montclair, NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I reached out to PAWS because I was hoping to one day adopt a cat but wasn't sure if I was ready to commit to caring for one for a lifetime and also wasn't sure if I was cut out for it. I had never owned a cat in my adult life, but had one as a child. I filled out an application including all of this information and Kristina, a rescue volunteer, quickly reached out to me. She called me, asked me what qualities I was looking for in a new housemate. She said she had the perfect cat in mind and boy was she right. My cat Sebastian was Ferral, born in the wild but found early on. When I met him he was a year and a half and had already been through many many foster homes simply because he doesn't get along with other cats. She warned me that he bites sometimes, but in a playful way. I took him home that day and I have never been more grateful. Kristina texted me everyday asking for photos and updates on how he was doing. I really felt like I could (and did) call her anytime of the day for advice if I needed it. A few months after I took him home, he was trying to pee on the floor and he couldn't. He wasn't crying, seemed ok otherwise, but I figured (at 10:00pm on a Wednesday) I should probably mention it to Kristina just to be sure it's not something serious. She tells me to my total and utter surprise that he has to go to the animal hospital immediately and could die if we wait until morning. And according to the Vet, he would've. If I didn't have Kristina, Sebastian would have died. She was so welcoming and attentive to me and Sebastian, that I felt comfortable bothering her about something that seemed so insignificant. It's her kindness and caring attitude that saved my cats life. The personal attention PAWS gives to their animals even after they're gone is incredible, and it saved my cats life. I am eternally grateful and proud to call my kitty a PAWS Pet, because they're the best kind.
