For the past few years I have been part of the advisory group that JCA puts together as it plans the annual 50+ Employment Expo. The Expo serves a critical purpose for Montgomery County, helping those 50+ find employment. We all know that it is especially difficult for older people to get hired. Ageism is alive and well. The Expo is designed to help potential employees prepare for the interview process, improve their resume, make key networking connections, and actually speak with hr people from companies in the region that actually have openings. This past year JCA reports that 2,767 older job seekers attended. There were 47 companies represented, and also 38 community resource groups who could provide additional information. The Expo is a very complex undertaking, and JCA does it with the greatest professionalism. It is a huge public service for our county.
