Review for Shakespeare & Company, Inc., Lenox, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We have seen three plays at Shakespeare and Company and have been impressed each time by this troupe's professional and inspired performances. The theatre is welcoming and comfortable, the acoustics are very good, there is not a bad seat in the house, the ticket prices are reasonable, and the drive through the Berkshires is beautiful. We live just outside Springfield, MA and can be at the theatre in less than an hour. On the first occasion, just my husband and I attended and it made for a really nice date. We brought our children to both the other plays we have seen and that too was enjoyable. For children (or adults who would like a quick refresher on Shakespeare), I would recommend Tina Packer's book, "Tales from Shakespeare." This book not only provides useful summaries but also includes wonderful illustrations. We borrowed "Tales From Shakespeare" from our local library before taking our girls (then aged 7 and 9) to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream." They were able to follow along without a problem and enjoyed the play as much as we did. They also liked the book so much that we have since purchased our own copy. As for taking children to the theatre, it has been fun and memorable for us and for our girls and I would recommend it (depending on the play, naturally, and of course upon the children!) We have only seen Shakespeare's plays at Shakespeare and Company and though I know they have other offerings and programs, I can't comment on any of that. I would wager, based upon the quality of what we have experienced, that it's all very, very good.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

presenting well produced, professional, inspired performances of Shakespeare's works.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

sharing the wit, wisdom and wonder of Shakespeare with my children.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very professional and helpful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Get out on the road a bit more. Bring educational programs out there to schools that can't afford the fees.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
