Review for Miracle Foundation, Austin, TX, USA
I have gone from stopping by the office of TMF 8 years ago to introduce myself to being an Ambassador and ESL teacher for the children to now being a Board Member. I am such an avid fan of what this organization has done and will do a lot more of it grows in the future while rolling out TMF model to other orphanages in India and perhaps beyond someday.
I have read somewhere that 5,000 children a day die in India from a preventable cause, often from the lack of clean water, adequate nourishment and proper medical attention. TMF provides these things and so much more. It provides a safe, secure and nurturing environment not only for the children but for the house mothers as well, many of whom came to TMF homeless and as victims of domestic violence.
I often wondered where Caroline Boudreaux came up with the name of the organization. On my last trip to one of the homes this past October, we were there during Dawali, the festival of lights. It is much like Christmas or Hanukkah in that it involves lots of light, good food and gift giving. On this visit I was introduced to three young people who had come home for the holiday from university. And they came home to the only home they had ever known. And as they stood before me I was stunned at how bright and confident they were and how they were filled with hope and promise. And it hit me....."This is the miracle. They are the miracle." These children from one of our homes were no college students and had futures bright and promising. Without TMF they could have ended up in domestic servitude or rag picking or working in a dangerous industrial site for extremely low wages. But not these children. It was clear that they were thriving in life and would continue to do so.
