Review for Shakespeare & Company, Inc., Lenox, MA, USA
This is Shakespeare as it was meant to be -- alive and approachable -- and performed with humor, passion and exuberance. And don't forget the "& Company" part: from "Shirley Valentine" to Pinter one-acts to a manic, comic rendering of "The Hound of the Baskervilles," this is consistently high-quality and creative live theater in an intimate setting. The talent is second to none; it's great to be able to see such actors as the incomparable Tina Packer (founding Artistic Director of Shakespeare & Co.), John Douglas Thompson (acclaimed for his Othello and many other roles here and in New York), Elizabeth Aspenlieder (winner of a 2009 Elliot Norton Award for her one-woman show "Bad Dates" ) and so many other talented and appealing resident and visiting actors. The commitment of everyone associated with Shakespeare & Company -- the actors, directors, costumers, volunteers -- is palpable, and infectious. You become more than an audience member -- you begin to feel like you are part of this great project, simply by being present. And the park-like campus adds to the feeling that you are in a lovely world apart, even if only for a few hours at a time. There is something very moving about witnessing firsthand the creative drive of this wonderful company. We feel very fortunate to have Shakespeare & Company in our lives.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
dedicated, hard-working and talented. Most do double duty -- both acting and doing their "day job," such as IT or PR, for Shakespeare & Co.
