Review for Shakespeare & Company, Inc., Lenox, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Six years ago I came as an audience member to see my first full season of plays at Shakespeare & Company. I've not only returned to see every season since, but have also participated in a range of their actor training programs, including the month-long intensive, the cornerstone of their training. My training at Shakespeare & Co. has been the most deeply rewarding and important actor training I've had in my life, profoundly changing my sense of the relationship between performer and audience as an actor and as a playwright. The theatrical production I've seen there, including the many in the new Bernstein space, continue to excite and inspire me as a lover of theater and Shakespeare and as an artist. I've taken three of my teenage nieces to see plays in the Fall Festival, and these were important experiences for them as young people being introduced to Shakespeare by their own peers. The Shakespeare in the Courts program is another impressive and important part of the work they do. Truly one of the most vital and exciting theater companies on the East Coast, if not in the country.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The great work they're doing revitalizing the human connection between the actor and the text, the play and the audience, and new generations and Shakespeare.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Helpful, patient, talented, supportive, enthusiastic, devoted, gifted and inspiring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Be THE Shakespeare center in the United States.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
