Review for International Association for Human Values, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've had the opportunity to work directly as a volunteer and staff with dozens of NGO's in the last 20 years, focusing on community development, education, and youth empowerment. The experiencing of working with IAHV has been truly unique and inspiring. Rarely do you find an organization where everyone in the room is there for the same reason, committed fully in service, dedicated to creating stress-free, violence-free communities. As the organization has grown and brought on more and more expertise and leaders with specialized experience, it's remarkable how the culture has remained one of service-leaders, driven by their cause, but committed to the culture. it continues to be an honor to serve with this community of volunteer minded professionals, and see the scale of the services expand by the day!

Working with IAHV has been the most rewarding experience for me. It has allowed to give the gift of personal empowerment to so many young people in my community. There's nothing more valuable one can support than helping others to support themselves!

Review for Moving Creations Inc, Philadelphia, PA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

Emily Nussdorfer and Moving Creations have been some of my principal inspirations in the world of youth empowerment and community transformation through the Arts. As an artist, educator, and activist myself, I was incredibly moved by the work the girls from the Girls on the Move Project created about their growth and transformation, and even more so, their visions for their communities. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with a number of the Girls on the Move Graduates in community poetry festivals, leadership symposiums, and young mother advisory groups, and I have been repeatedly impressed by the comfort with which they face and discuss difficult and complex issues, share openly of themselves and their experiences, and above all, testify for the world they wish to see emerge around them, and their willingness to participate in this process. Having spent years in schools with this age group, I have found this traits to be rare and often far between, but to be commonplace among the girls Moving Creations has embraced. What Moving Creations does so well that others so often struggle with, is maintain a big picture of social synergy and community health through all of its specific and hands on work with the specific needs and obstacles of each girl, supporting them to become their highest selves with a sense of purpose for a large family that needs them. I only wish this program were available to every girl in the Philadelphia public schools.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

amazing performances by graduates of the program.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Create a home for the programming where Emily could focus on directing courses instead of handling administration.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the focus on healing and empowering the individual to heal and uplift society as a whole

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Artists and educators of the highest caliber collaborating with passionate business professionals, community partners, and committed agents of nurture and change.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

create models for programming that would be transformational for youth around the globe, and open centers for youth development and community evolution.

Ways to make it better...

I gotten to see the first performances and presentations of these amazing young women first hand

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding / Scale

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thank you to all those whose great energy holds space for such important work.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
