Review for Operation Paws for Homes, N.Chesterfield, VA, USA
I have been following Operation Paws for Homes through their Facebook page for almost a year now and I knew when the time came that THIS was the rescue that I wanted to adopt from. Our sweet new addition Penny (formerly Huxlee) is a 2 year old Australian Kelpie (originally thought to be a Dalmatian/Pit Bull mix) who came to live with us, her forever family, on Saturday 11/8. She has brought something to our home and family that we had never experienced before and now can't imagine living without.
Our experience with OPH from beginning to adoption was not only professional, but one of warmth. I spent an hour on my phone interview with Cheryl answering questions, but also sharing stories. Her love and concern for these animals was immediately evident and further confirmed the trust I had in the organization. Penny was only with her foster Mommy, Elise, for a week, but again, her love for dogs really showed. She cares greatly for Penny and is still asking me how she is doing.
OPH offers an array of support options for new adopters that I have already taken advantage of. Over the past 2 days, I have received very helpful advice from Ally, one of their training specialists. She did not feed me generic answers on anything I needed and really gave me relevant advice and examples where it has been needed.
I have been flooded with email follow-up over the past 7 days from OPH, and nothing has been pre-fabricated. They have been personal emails offering extra support and checking to make sure our sweet girl was doing ok. I cannot say enough about this organization.
As a side note, for those giving bad reviews and saying the adoption process was too involved or that they were rejected. This is what makes OPH a reputable and responsible rescue. I almost felt like I was being approved for a mortgage haha, but they do all of this work on their OWN time. They are volunteers, so to go to the lengths that they do to find these animals a great home speaks volumes about their concern for the animal's best interests. If you are rejected as an adopter, they have a reason.
Thanks again OPH for uniting us with our newest family member :)
