Review for Coalition To Salute Americas Heroes, Williamsburg, VA, USA
My elderly (and slightly senile) brother gets begging mail from this non-tax paying organization almost weekly. He had a career in the military and the organization is capitzlising on getting as much of his hard earned money as they can. They send glossy begging letters and cheap gifts to squeeze out funds from these poor ex-servicemen. I researched this non-tax paying enterprise and found that in 2013 very little of the millions donated goes to help servicemen and women. Most money goes to the fund raising companies they employ and into their own pockets. (see Charity Watch) We have emailed and demanded they take our personal details off their database. It will be interesting to see if they do it. They are targeting the elderly, especially retired military, and taking advantage of them, preying on their patriotism and senility.
Thank you for the comment- if you could please contact us at info@saluteheroes.org and reference this website we would like to confirm that your brother has been removed from our database. We are adding and subtracting people daily and would like to make sure this has happened. As for the rest of your note- we assume that you are not looking at our most recent 990. That IRS form, our 2013 audit and Annual Report are found on our website. You'll see that the Coalition conforms with all expense ratios established by the charity ratings agencies, and we are making every effort to improve them every year. We just received Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) giving approval this year and received the Gold label from Guidestar a few months back. Like many organizations, we rely on direct mail for a big part of our funding, which does enable us to achieve our mission and educate and engage the public. We are making progress in diversifying our sources of income, such as from corporate sponsors and foundations. It's the biggest challenge we face, but we are committed to soldiering on. We see the fruits of our labor in the faces of the combat-wounded heroes and families we touch. We owe it to them to keep fighting, just as they did for all of us.
