Review for Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington, Inc., Rockville, MD, USA
I've been a volunteer at JCA for nearly 7 years, and a Board member for 6 years. This wonderful organization fills a critical role in helping seniors in the greater Washington DC area live more fulfilling lives, whatever their ethnicity, faith, or station in life. As a volunteer and Board member, I've had first-hand experience with several vital JCA programs. The Senior HelpLine program provides access to the most comprehensive source of information on aging-related resources in the DC area, with a data base of some 4000 providers of housing, home care, government services, transportation, and other services. The Career Gateway program helps job-seekers age 50 and over gain the confidence, knowledge, and skills to enter or re-enter the work force -- a particular challenge for older workers, who face unique and formidable challenges in the job market. Connect a Ride provides invaluable assistance to otherwise home-bound seniors. SeniorTech helps seniors become computer-literate; Interages brings the generations together in a creative, mutually beneficial way; JCA's adult day programs provide stimulation and care for people with cognitive and medical issues and respite for their caregivers; the Senior Community Service Employment Program offers invaluable on-the-job training to the poorest seniors. It's been a true privilege to work with the wonderful staff at JCA and a source of endless personal fulfillment to help the agency's clientele live better lives.
