Review for Knights of Heroes Foundation - Rocky Mountain Ascent, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
KOH week is the highlight of the year for me each year, and inspires me throughout the balance of the year. The program integrates challenging high adventure activities daily in the Rocky Mountains/Rivers with earnest mentoring from humble, devoted, strong fathers who give up a week of their time with their own sons/daughters to help a mentee realize their true potential and overcome doubts/fears, and in so doing, honors the lives of those fathers who gave their lives to protect and preserve our freedom. Each day a mentee approaches a new challenge with a high-adventure mentor, and as a team, they face latent fears that span fear of water (white water rafting), fear of heights (rock climbing & high-ropes courses), fear of falling (downhill mountain biking & low ropes courses), fear of others (each mentee/mentor pairing are part of a team that works together), and through the shared confidence of mentors and sheer enthusiasm and courage they are exposed to, the mentee begins to see themselves and their potential abundantly and clearly. Daily values are embraced as well, like Responsibility, being Proactive, being Bold, and Leadership are embraced and applied, and mentors share their experiences with those values to further illustrate their importance. As the week comes to a close, great memories are made and shared and stored in a common experience that reveres the memories of fallen fathers, and fosters a path forward that is fueled by gratitude for those fathers and self-confidence fostered by their experiences forging courage and character in the mountains of Colorado at KOH. If you listen carefully during a certain week each July, you can hear the the words "Rise Up" echoing from the Rocky Mountains as the sun rises, and as the sun sets...from the young Knights of Heroes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be a mentor/volunteer at Knights of Heroes in 2014. The training, the staff, the activities and the facilities/environment were top shelf. I saw young men help each other find courage and friendship in the context of an excellent camp high in the Rocky Mountains that will help them overcome and achieve throughout their lives. The resilience and humility of these kids is remarkable, and I am certain that their fathers who have fallen in service to their country are very, very proud.
