I had tons of fun with this program. Very supportive and I made so many good memories with the people I came with. Very good team building activities and tons of options to learn new things. An awesome experience in my books and would come here again.
Rocky Mountain Ascent is a great non-profit! The team are friendly, welcoming, and fun to talk to. The facilities are well kept and the activities are challenging in the best way- the ropes courses were a personal favorite! Felt like being in the company of dear friends the whole time, even just for a one night stay!
I had a lot of fun doing the high ropes course and kayaking. I also enjoyed the ziplineing, and the staff here are really cool and chill so thank you for all the people who donated.
As a kid from foster care I enjoy coming to this camp learning life skills, and spending time outdoors building horse shoe pits, moving logs. Some of the activities we do are kayaking, mountain biking, archery, axe throwing and knife throwing, I enjoyed all this camp has to offer, and planning to help an volunteer here to give back to the camp and help other kids in the same situation
After being a part of Knight of Heroes for 5 years and now an intern for Rocky Mountain Ascent, the bond I have created with this group of people is like no other. The relationships that I have built with my mentors and mentees will stay close for the rest of my life. The activities that get you out of your comfort zone to facing fears that you would normally never face, have built me on the inside. The life skills that I have absorbed over the years have shaped me into the person I am today and have changed the way I see things in life. I will be forever grateful for what this program has done for me and hope to stay connected for as long as I can!
This program has shown me that people still care. Everyone who worked here is very caring! I'm in a very hard position and the staff have really helped me.
I have enjoyed lots of activity-filled days with people who care about me! I appreciate all the support and fun I received while here.
My time at the camp has been very good. There were so many things I got to do that I would not have experienced anywhere else. Thank you for what you guys have done here and taught me.
RMA provided an amazing experience; they had an incredibly warm and welcoming staff. They seemed
prepared for every occurrence or at least extremely adaptive. 5/5 Stars!
Coming in as a volunteer has been nothing short of an amazing experience. As someone who has volunteered with many organizations this one is truly special. The passion and drive to help the kids starts with the leadership and doesn’t just trickle down, it pours. From hard labor to camp activities this is an organization that gives its whole heart and all the resources it has back to the kids. It’s a place that really teaches kids the power they have in themselves and in others. I’m proud to have the opportunity to be part of such an incredible team and give to such a powerful purpose.
This summer I had to opportunity to volunteer with Rocky Mountain Ascent, and it was such an amazing experience. This program is really doing some cool things. Alongside staff members, I got to interact with the foster youth who attended camp and see how the experience affected them. I could tell the youth had such a great time in all the activities and really pushed themselves outside their comfort zones. This experience was incredibly rewarding and I would absolutely volunteer again!
I have been volunteering with Knights of Heroes for seven years now and am proud to be part of the KOH family. The kids and families we serve, as well as the army of volunteers and mentors, inspire me. Almost 100% of every dollar donated goes to the program itself and the kids we serve. We get to see firsthand the results of the years of continued mentoring and programs as these kids graduate and continue on with our grad program and becoming volunteers themselves. There is nothing else like KOH serving the children of our fallen heroes into adulthood. Remembering and honoring their sacrifices brings healing....doing life with others who know the loss makes a difference...

I have been involved with Knights of Heroes (KOH) for the past 6 years, as a mentor and board member. As with years past, I am always amazed, and feel the organization is truly blessed, to have the number of top notch volunteers and donors that it does. I feel it shows that the mentors, and all volunteers, 'receive' just as much as they 'give'...that they are dedicated to the continuance of support year after year, and to the relationships developed and forged at camp with these kids. All of our hearts are in it for the long haul, challenging and supporting the children of our nation's fallen heroes, as we would wish someone would do for us and our kids if we were to fall. KOH is not just another "free camp" for Gold Star kids. All involved invest and pour into the kids we serve, year after year, challenging them to believe in themselves, to try new things, to conquer fears, to live and write a good story for themselves, to develop long lasting friendships, and to Rise Up above what the world would teach them and become who God made and intended them to be...
Knights of Heroes is simply the best grass-roots organization I've ever seen, heard of, or worked with. I have served as a volunteer mentor with them for almost a decade and have seen first-hand the long-lasting and incredible impact for good this organization brings to the lives of young men and women who have endured such immense loss.

I have been a boys’ mentor with Knights of Heroes for a number of years now and I have never in my life heard of or seen another organization quite like this one. The positive impact KOH has on these kids is beyond words. The group of mentors is the most impressive bunch of fellas I’ve ever worked with. I’ve watched boys come up through KOH from year one through graduation and the transformation in their life is unreal. Terrified, angry and confused youths are transformed into courageous, mature and bold men who often are already impacting the world around them for good. I am honored to be a part of Knights.
I have been volunteering in support of Knights of Heroes (KOH) since 2013. What amazes me the most about this organization is the transformation that takes place in these young men and women, who are healing from unexpected emotional trauma. As kids, they often start their first (KOH) camp with thick emotional and social walls built miles high and lists of on-going challenges associated with loss of a parent. Being surrounded by peers who have experienced similar loss and coached and mentored by positive, strong volunteers quickly breaks these walls down. Subsequent KOH camps and engagements have proven to help pave the way for long-term healing and growth. Thank You to the donors, leadership team, and volunteers who make KOH such a success!

This is my seventh year volunteering as a mentor for young men in the Knights of Heroes’ first-through-third-year program. Every year, I am incredibly amazed at how impactful this program is on the development of our country’s next generation of citizens, husbands, fathers, and leaders.
This year, one of my team’s second-year mentees spent 45 minutes sobbing while stuck on a challenging spot during a difficult [and scary for anybody] rock climb. Although I had been pushing him and knew he could make it to the goal he had set (the top), I finally asked him if he wanted to come down and he replied “yes.” After lowering him via a rope to my level, the mentee started to sob even more and tried to blame me for letting him come down. I explained to him: this was his second year at the camp, he had grown in year since he had last been at camp, he knew he was again going to be challenged with a rock climb this year, and it was time for him to take ownership of his own performance and decisions. After 10 minutes of calming down and reflection, the mentee came back over to me and said he wanted to go back up. And, oh how he climbed!
As a side note, I cannot say enough good things about the Foundation's leadership team and culture of professionalism. Despite facing seemingly insurmountable challenges in 2020, the leadership team and staff has effectively adhered to rapidly-changing federal and state guidance, planned and prepared for a variety of abnormal contingencies, and mitigated numerous higher-than-normal health- and safety-related risks.
KoH is an awesome organization that I'm proud to have volunteered with for about 11 years!
What really tells me that this camp makes a difference is that our graduated former campers are now returning as a new generation of mentors! They clearly believe in the organization enough to return as a volunteer, and it's great seeing the wonderful people they have become.

I have been involved with this company now for nearly 8 years and I have never seen a foundation impact the lives of young children in such a positive and consistent way. As someone who has been through every aspect of this foundation, I have seen such massive improvements in the lives of children and the parents that participate.
I’ve been impressed for several years how KoH has consistently taken care of our military families and especially our Gold Star Kids!
Such a great organization. They really do a nice job taking care of the families that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their mentorship is second to none and the impact in the boys and girl’s lives is incredible. They do such a wonderful job maximizing people’s donations.

Amazing to see an organization so committed to supporting and loving on families that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great country. The boys and girls are part of a community that helps them grow to be wonderful men and women.
Knights of Heroes brought so much joy to my family this past summer! My son and I got to test ourselves, face challenges, and rely on our strength and perseverance to overcome. The experience really helped us reconnect with not only ourselves, but each other as well! I just cant say enough good about what this organization has done for me and my son! Thank you for taking the time to read this! Please consider supporting this amazing non profit!
I became aware of this Foundation in 2009 while still on active duty in public service. I've been a donor ever since. I'm honored to know the founder and several organizers, board members, campers/graduates, and fellow donators ... all have inspired me by their care, compassion, growth, development, vision, and ideals. Truly breathtaking!
I was a camper for 10 years and have been a mentor or worked for them for 5 years now. This program changed my life, taught me how to deal with adversity, and has given me the greatest community I have ever known!

I was a camper at KOH for 10 years and now I’ve been on the staff/mentor Team for 4 years, and it is one of the single most life changing experiences/communities I have ever been a part of. When I lost my dad in military service, knights stepped in and taught me what being a man meant, that being bold, a leader, responsible, kind to others, Etc. they have given me an invaluable skill set in the outdoors, in leadership, and they’ve given me direction in life: to serve others.
I have really enjoyed volunteering with KOH over the past ten years- the impact they have on children is huge!
Knights of Heroes is a fantastic organization that changes the trajectory of children’s lives. It’s unlike any other group trying to help Gold Star kids. It offers real, lasting hope and connection.
We lost my husband JANUARY 2020. I have two teenage boys who’s lives were rocked. Steve reached out to us almost immediately and swept the boys into the organization. That April we got our first introduction to what would be an amazing blessing of relationships and healing for not just my sons but me as well. Knights of Heroes volunteers have poured into my boys so much in the past year and a half and I am so grateful. The boys have loved attending the outdoor adventure camps and have made new lifelong friends through Knights of Heroes. We are so thankful for Steve, every volunteer and generous donor for KoH.

What an amazing organization! My boys are 11 and 14 and just recently lost their dad at a very critical time in their growing up. Men like Steve and the mentors are standing up in the gap for these boys. My boys came back from a week at camp filled and blessed. They can’t wait to get back with their camp mates and mentors again. What a light this organization and all who support it have been in our lives at such a tough time.
I am a donor, but I started volunteering for the camp after I saw how great they handled their interaction with the kids, as well as how cautious they were with their budget. They stretch every penny as far as it will go, and the leadership team are all tremendous servants. Gold Star kids like mine have been so blessed to have had Knights of Heroes help mentor them through the years. I would HIGHLY recommend donating to this wonderful organization.

I am a board member of Knights of Heroes, but I also volunteer my time as a camp worker during the week of camp. I continue to be amazed at how we are able to give kids hope and a rewarding camp experience that will benefit them throughout life. We teach them values they will need in life, and we help them conquer fears and empower them. The mentors they have during camp week offer encouragement to complete activities (e.g. rock climbing, mountain bike riding, etc) that they may not have otherwise thought they were capable of doing.
The camp also allows these kids to bond with other military children who have lost fathers and gives them a connection they may not have otherwise had. My two kids attended the camp for about 10 years, and now that they are adults, some of their best friends are kids they met at Knights of Heroes. Having that came connection with other kids allows them to feel they are not alone through their journey.
Knights of Heroes gives these kids experiences and connections that they would otherwise not have. I am incredibly blessed to be a part of this awesome organization, and I am thankful my own two kids had the opportunity to benefit from KOH!
KOH has been a blessing to my two sons. The camp counselors guided them in amazing outdoor challenges and encouraged both boys when they needed it most. My sons have also gained life long friendships through building strong relationships through team building activities. KOH has showed all campers that resilience comes from the efforts that you put forth to ensure that you’re emotionally and physically strong. This camp has helped my family see that life after tragedy is possible.

Knights of Heroes has been a truly awesome experience for my entire family. This was our second year at this camp and each time it surpasses the first experience tenfold. My son comes back with a new awakening of self strength and confidence that sometimes can take a lifetime for others. The mentors and directors help him conquer his fears and challenge him to try new things. It is the adventure that my son needs and yearns for. KOH, is an excellent camp for both boys and girls that teaches them life skills that will stick with them forever.
Aa a Veteran, mentor and Board Member for this organization, I can attest to this incredible mission that serves kids and families who have sacrificed for our great Nation. I can also assure that donations are utilized in the most efficient and effective manner to ensure that the kids are the benefactors, not administrative overhead. I have seen lives changed during the camps and retreats that KOH offers. The campers establish friendships and bonds that last a lifetime and the values and skills they gain will serve them into young adulthood and beyond. KOH also provides sustained opportunities for campers as they graduate from high school and college so that they are NEVER forgotten or left stranded. It's been a privilege and honor to serve this great program!

What an incredible experience for these kids, the mentors, the graduates and the staff. So professionally run which was absolutely essential this summer given the conditions. The kids loved the activities. They developed strong bonds with others that have experienced similar loss in their lives. The campers learned so many new things about themselves as they tested what they thought were their limits and surprised themselves with their grit and resiliency. They learned some very valuable lessons and values from their mentors that will last a lifetime. There is not a better organization doing this amazing work for these most deserving families.
I’ve been a volunteer for 5 years and can’t say enough about this is an amazing organization and amazing kids!!! KoH programs offer kids experiences and confidence building that will serve them well as young adults.
My kids love to attend the Knights of Heroes Camp.
They always looking forward to it.
Great place and people.
KOH is AMAZING! It has been a huge asset for my two boys (ages 14 and 16) and I honestly don't know where we would be without them. The have the most incredible mentors and a director and staff who truly cares about the kids/families they support.

Knights of Heroes is an amazing camp that provides incredible opportunities to kids who have lost a dad in the military. For my two boys (who had just turned 3 and 5 when their dad died), has not only been a great way to connect with some of the outdoor things their dad used to do with them, but it has also given them a chance to be around strong male figures. The staff push the campers to challenge themselves and get outside of their comfort zones. As a result, my boys have left camp with more self confidence, excitement for the outdoors, and a fantastic support system. For that, I am extremely grateful!
My son Hunter has been going to Knight’s of Hero camps for a few sessions now. The kids become part of the KOH family, Hunter and myself know if we need anything including a male mentor even when it’s camp is not in session that Steve and KOH are just a phone call away.
This organization went out of its way to help our family. The mentors are outstanding and have made a huge impact on my son who lost his father during military service. The organization is extremely organized and provides a safe environment for the children while helping them build confidence. Superb organization!!
My kids and I are so thankful for Knights of Heroes. Their Dad, Jonathan Gibson, was KIA while deployed with the US Navy on 9/22/2013. We have been a part of the KOH family for 2 years now. The mentorship, encouragement, support, motivation, experiences, and being pushed outside of their comfort level has helped create a positive pathway through their grief journey.
Knights of Heroes stepped into my children’s lives to help fill the gaping hole left by their father when he was killed in a military helicopter crash. They provided my kids with opportunities to bond with other “gold star” kids, to lean on mentors who have “been there”, and to experience the outdoors the way their dad always wanted them to. Additionally, they have been taught that hard things will always be part of life, that their choices matter, and that through faith and gratitude, they will rise above their challenges to become better, wiser people. Graduates of the KoH program honor their loved ones memory’s, inspire others around them, and offer encouragement and hope to younger generations coming after them. As a widowed mom trying to give her kids the best, trying to help them heal, and trying to honor her husband’s dreams for his kids; the gift of support from KoH is priceless. Their impact is life changing and lifelong. We would not be the thriving family we are today without Knights of Heroes.
My son and daughter have been a part of Knight of Heroes for the last 3 years. Their experience has been amazing. They have been encouraged to push themselves past what they thought was possible. The mentors still reach out to the kids and check in on them. Steve and his team and amazing human beings who truly care about the kids and want to invest in their future.

This was our families first experience with Knights Of Heroes and I have to say that it was well beyond our expectations. My husband and I always wanted to teach our children the importance of character, service, and life skills. We wanted to walk along with them to teach key skills that help them become contributing members of society who embody kindness, faith, and generosity. When I lost my husband those values did not die- however it became my responsibility. Knights of Heroes is an organization that walks with families of the fallen. They know the hearts and desires of the families and they take the values that are important in life and spend time one on one with the children to nurture them. They instill self-confidence, service, team-work as well as friendship, and mentorship- all while learning to shoot, rock climb, and throw tomahawks. They take special consideration to choose activities that would traditionally be taught by fathers and give these kids the opportunity to be kids. My son was not the same when he returned from the camp. Even in just one week I can see how his confidence and desire to be a better person has increased. I cannot thank KOH enough and I feel so blessed to be apart of this organization.
I’ve been with the organization for over 5 years and continue to be impressed at what an amazing program KOH has in Colorado!

This is an amazing group of people who selflessly commit their time to invest in the lives of our Gold Star children. KOH has provided my three children the opportunity to learn so much about nature and mentorship while building their own self confidence.

All three of my children have now been to a Knights of Heroes camp. This is one of the most dedicated and supportive charities out there to help our Gold Star families. Through KOH, my children have received one-on-one mentorship with older children (graduates of the KOH program) as well as adult mentors that give so much of their time and energy to nurture lasting relationships with the campers. This is a one-of-a-kind charity that teaches life building skills and instills confidence in our children that will last a lifetime.
Knights Of Heroes has been the best positive influence on my son since the passing of his father to injuries sustained while serving in combat. KOH has helped fill the male role model that was missing in my son's life. They have continued to listen, teach and empower so many children and our family is forever grateful.
Knights of Heroes is one of the best foundations you could possibly have. The bonds and friendships that are created there are incredible. It takes kids who have lost their fathers in military service and gives them outdoor experiences that they may not get otherwise. It helps them to grow and build a support group around them that they would not get elsewhere. Its Amazing!!!
Knights of Heroes is a fantastic organization that puts all of their resources into preparing Gold Star children for their futures by creating a support system and instilling lifelong skills! Amazing staff.
I don't think there is a more positive and thoughtful group of people in the country than the folks that make Knights of Heroes happen. And I really look forward to the honor/opportunity to serve the families and give back to those who gave everything for our country. Seeing the kids push outside of their comfort zone and experience things they otherwise would not have is so rewarding. This organization is extremely well run and organized! I am proud to be a small part of the mission!

Words can't describe the energy and enthusiasm of every person involved with this amazing organization. Volunteering here is the highlight of my year! Steve and his team are wonderful stewards of each dollar donated and they work tirelessly to positively impact the life of each camper. I honestly can't think of a better mission and group of people!
A fantastic organization that takes kids without fathers and provides them with opportunities to interact with male role models for guidance, mentorship and everyday Dad know-how. The camps seek to build the kids from the ground up with a solid foundation to tackle the many obstacles life will throw at them. They strip away the entitlement culture and teach these kids how to thrive in this world by pushing them beyond these kid's self imposed limits teaching them only they can limit themselves. These lessons are taught with humility, grace, compassion and love, with a bit of grit thrown in for good measure. The kids who attend the camps of Knights of Heroes are better prepared to face the pressures and challenges of this world.
6th year at camp. Another great experience! Camp was a little different this year with COVID precautions, but the kids had a great time and rose to the challenges with grace!.

This is such a great program! My son is in the high adventure program and have seen such a growth in responsibility, self confidence and his love of the outdoors. I am so grateful for the care that the staff and volunteers show the kids. I highly recommend this organization!
My son was only 6 when he lost his dad. My son is 12 now and has struggled to find his place in life and lacking skills his dad never got the chance to teach him.
After finding KOH my son has grown and become more confident in himself. He has found his place and learning skills that will grow with him and mold him into the man my husband would be proud of. I am so thankful for KOH and how they have helped my family along with others. We have made life long friends and feel like family.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with KOH for the last 3 years. I love this organization and I tell everybody I can about the good that they do. I have really seen kids cone into their own with the confidence that they learn to have from camp.
My daughter. Chloe has had a wonderful experience at the camp and retreats. The mentorship has meant so much to her as she adjusts to life without her Dad. She is pushed to new limits with activities and finds great confidence in that. By far this is one of the best experiences of growth for her since we lost her dad in 2018. Thank you KOH!
I've known about KOH for a few years now and heard so many amazing stories, This was my first year participating in a event which was the Grad Retreat! I had an Incredible time from the moment I arrived. I didn't feel out of place as there were other young adults there as well. It is amazing what this organization offers and provides for the Children of the fallen heroes. From day one the staff members were always there for us and listened to what we had to share. KOH is defiently a family i want to continue top be apart of.
I truly had a unique experience with the Knights of Heroes. The KOH retreat brought other children of fallen heroes from all over the country to meet in Colorado on their piece of land. Being away from everyday distractions like technology allowed all of us to focus on challenging activities or conversation pieces that were tailored to our needs. Instead of being defined by our loss, the KOH is encouraging its campers to keep growing and making the best out of their circumstances. They may not be able to take the place of our lost parents, but they create a support group of adults and children who are rooting for each others success.
I was invited to go on a grad retreat through this organization, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but WOW was it awesome. It was so comforting to be surrounded by so many people that understood my situation. We were able to support each other and endure an awesome experience in the beautiful state of Colorado!! From white water rafting to late night discussions on identity I am truly grateful to have been apart of this retreat.
I am a Gold Star child and I have been attending this camp for over a decade; I now return as staff and help where I can. This is easily the best nonprofit organization I have ever encountered. Over the years, the countless outdoor activities like rock climbing, water rafting, and archery have forged me into a strong, confident person, despite the loss of my father. Through this camp, I have found connections with other Gold Star children, which has created numerous deep friendships. Having this support system is what gets me through the tough days. In addition to friendships, the KOH staff has also come to play an extremely important role in my life. I look up to each and every one of them; their strong morals and authentic passion for serving others guides me when I need it the most. I couldn't imagine my life without this organization.
In January 2006, my dad died in a jet crash. He was a great Navy pilot and more importantly, a great dad. I was 5 years old at the time and I am now 18. The Knights of Heroes graduate retreat was the first time I was around people my age who are in my situation. This camp has given me great friends, mentors, and memories. It made me feel like I belong somewhere and I have a group of people who understand my struggles on a personal level. This camp has truly changed my life for the better and I am so thankful for it.
Knights of heroes is an amazing camp. I remember my first year I was scared to go, but now I made family and friends forever. The activities are super fun ...some of the activities are shotgun shooting, Throwing tomahawks and knives, archery, canoeing and White water rafting. The mentors there are very helpful, kind, nice, and respectful The mentors help us fight through the grief of our fathers. Knights of heroes is the best camp I have ever been to.
It is a great camp that I really enjoy, it really helps me to strengthen myself mentally along with physically and it has done so much for me as a young man
Knights of Heroes has been an answered prayer for my family. My boys learn how to become men through the leadership of the mentors and they build self confidence from tackling outdoor skills among the camaraderie of other boys who’ve faced similar loss
This was my son's fourth year and my daughter's second year attending KOH. It was also the first year they attended without me accompanying them. The attention to detail and organization of getting the kids from the airport to camp and back again was phenomenal. I had zero worries. My son attended as graduate staff since he recently graduated high school. This was a perfect opportunity for him to feel accomplished and useful helping out with the running of the camp and bonding with other guys his same age. I continually see him return home from KOH stronger, braver, more independent and more thoughtful about the direction of his life. He saw himself as being more trustworthy and purposeful. He knows more is expected of him and he brings that attitude home. I am so grateful to all the staff and mentors who encourage him and praise him for his role at camp.
This was my 16 year old daughter's second year attending. She hasn't stopped talking about all the amazing experiences she had. With a history of anxiety, depression and struggles she comes home from KOH so much stronger, sure of herself, capable and thoughtful. She is able to get herself through struggles and has learned to turn towards strong calming women for advice and encouragement. The mentors at KOH are incredible. I never for one moment worried for her safety or happiness. My girl climbs mountains now, opens up to others, challenges herself daily and has lifelong friends who truly care. I am so thankful to KOH, Steve Harrold and everyone associated with this beautiful organization. It is a beautiful gift they all give to our family every year. I can't recommend KOH enough.

This was my 17 year old son's third year and my 15 year old daughter's first year attending KOH. They had a blast and are still talking about their week. My son moved into a junior mentorship role this year and this brought out so many amazing qualities in him. He is more helpful, more kind, more patient and has a heart that wants to give back now. He acts with more purpose now and looks forward to what he is going to do with his life. What a gift to watch your son behave more like a respected man and to hear the great things all the mentors had to say about him. My daughter has struggled with depression and anxiety for several years and this was her first year that she was able to attend. She blossomed at camp and watched herself conquer mountains, rivers, horseback riding and her emotions. Her mentor was phenomenal and caring. She and my daughter formed a great friendship and it was fantastic hearing my daughter talk to me about her joy and her increased self confidence. Best week ever! Thank you to every single person who made this week possible. Completely recommend KOH!
Three of my four children have now attended this incredible camp. Knights of Heroes has been a powerful influence in their lives since the death of their father. I could tell a hundred stories about the amazing people that have loved on my kids, the experiences they’ve had, and the lessons they’ve learned.
My oldest son is at an age where a young man really needs his Dad. I am so thankful for the ways KOH has stepped into that gap for him and has given him something he truly loves and looks forward to. This summer was my younger daughters first time as a camper. When I picked her up she told me that she loved the week because it felt so good to be around other kids that understood her. Knights of Heroes has been instrumental in helping our family navigate moving forward in life with our grief, while connecting with other families going through our same circumstances.
It is an unbelievable blessing to be able to send my children at no cost because of the generous individuals and companies funding Knights of Heroes. That gift is not taken for granted. I love that the kids take time during their week at camp to write thank you notes to everyone involved as well as participate in a service project to give back to the camp.
The kids going through this program are grateful and compassionate and become mentors themselves after learning the importance of serving others.
Knights of Heroes is a unique and special place doing incredible work in families’ lives. We are so thankful!
Knights of heroes has been an instrumental organization in offering summer camps that help facilitate the development of character and resilience in my children after the loss of my husband. They pair each one of my sons with a mentor and challenge them to overcome obstacles while developing a sense of camaraderie with kids who are just like them. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this camp and what it does to make an impact!
Words can’t explain how much this program mean to me and my 4Boys this was our 1st year and my 1st time hanging with my 2little Sons while the 2 older sons camp with the Knights and Heroes I must say our week was eventful and memorable myself and 2 little sons had the opportunity to White water raft for the 1st time in our lives and I must say it was breathtaking and a enjoyable ride to remember My 2 little ones had a enjoyable time as well I never had the time to just hang out with my 2 little ones which I felt was much need it was a great time to check in with them I really appreciate the opportunity to do so it was a great way to have some bonding time with them. Also with the other Widow’s and their young children that got left behind because they aren’t of age yet to camp. The little kids also visit the Zoo and feed the Giraffes and seen a couple of cool animals behind the scenes with our private 2hour tour it was a great day at the zoo as well And I can’t forget to mention the horse back riding at the Air Force academy was a great way to bond as well with our children I must say I know the older children that went camping had a eventful week and also I heard they did similar events as well, but we had a eventful week every day it truly was a great way to bond with our children.
Thank you Knights and Heroes for not leaving the younger siblings out... While you built memories with the 2 older ones. As my 2 little ones said their week was awesome and amazing I would agree with the Both of them!!!
It was an honor to serve as a first-time mentor for the Knights of Heroes this year. I’ve never been a part of a more impactful organization. The difference this program is making in the lives of the young men and women who have endured so much grief and loss is remarkable.
I can’t say enough positive things about this camp. They encourage and show my teenage son so much love and positive energy. He looks forward to going and doing all the adventurous stuff his Dad would of done with him. The staff is very organized and helpful with any questions and never leave any doubt in my mind about what is happening with my son. I’m very thankful for Steven and Knights of Heros Mentors. You have helped my son in our darkest time find a reason to smile, laugh and learn that everything will be ok.
I returned this year for camp as a mentor for the 6th time. This continues to be the best non-profit experience I have had with dedicated staff and volunteers who put the campers first. The campers really benefit from the program and exposure to outdoor activities, their peers, and the mentor staff. I am impressed with the growing offerings and events.

I continue to volunteer here annually. It is a highlight of my year to work with the kids and mentors who are involved. The impact for all involved is obvious and it is amazing to see the young men and women overcome physical challenges while also spending time opening up about their lives to peers and mentors. I have been involved with many non-profits as both a volunteer and full time staff and this organization is the best steward of donor dollars of any group I have seen.
This organization goes above and beyond. My son and daughter both have attended and benefitted from this camp. They offer mentorship and guidance for children who have lost a parent due to world conflict. They also encourage the campers to return after they age out to be junior mentors in order to keep the program moving forward. This program is all about giving back, finding purpose, and having a great appreciation people and their communities through service projects. It's about not taking things for granted and showing respect and appreciation. This is a superior lead and organized foundation.

My son has attend Knights of Heroes for several years now. This camp gives him experiences he would otherwise not have had as a result of the loss of his father in Afghanistan. It also gives him an opportunity to bond with other boys who have suffered a loss because of the war on terror. Some of the benefits of this camp for my son have been an increase in self-confidence, sense of belonging, and an appreciation of others through service work. KOH plans fun activities, helps them give back through the service projects, and provides many volunteer mentors who support and look after our kiddos while at camp. This is a great organization and am very thankful for the opportunities they have awarded my son.
I don't have enough words to say how amazing and impotartant Knights of Heroes is. My son started attending KOH he was 10 years old and it has changed his life. I knew he needed men in his life since his father's death but I didn't realize how much he need them until his first year at KOH. He came back with a new confidence in himself and support group that was strong. Each year he has returned to camp and built on the lessons from the year before. The mentors are truly caring people that understand how deep their connection is with the campers. They keep up with my son throughout the year and are an extension of our family. They understand they have a key role in these boys lives and like they have been for my son for 9 years, they become some of the most important men in their lives. Honestly, I don't know what Ronan would be like without KOH. They have made him a better person and an exceptionally giving young man.
I have been a donor for nine years. This organization uses their money wisely and always looking at ways to improve their program. I have been to the camp property - not only is it in a beautiful setting, there are many outdoor activities available right on the property. It is also amazing that the property was paid off in three years. I strongly encourage anyone to donate to KOH and honor of fallen heroes' families.
Knights of Heroes empowers youth to be courageous, resilient and resourceful. Youth have a blast adventuring in spectacular Rockies, all while connecting with peers who have been through the same challenge of losing a parent. Leadership, team-work and reflection are weaved into the daily activities. The camper-to-mentor ratio is 1:1 or 2:1, thus giving campers constant access to adult figures and promotes good decision making.

The most awesome volunteer opportunity that I have ever been involved with!!!!! Knights of Heroes camp empowers youth to recognize their strengths, to develop their character and confidence, to recognize and improve on skills in need of growth, and to fellowship with peers! Additionally, the youth have an absolute blast recreating in the beautiful and therapeutic mountains and waters of Colorado! The mentors and staff are kind, honest, trustworthy, and encouraging! KOH camp is my favorite week of each year!!!! I just completed my 3rd year with the camp, and will be coming back for many more years! :)
Our family became a part of the Knights of Heroes Family in the summer of 2010. It started with my oldest becoming a camper. He thought it would be fun to hike, rock climb and camp out in Colorado. What he didn’t realize was he was invited into a new lifelong relationship with the mentors and fellow campers. A couple of years later, my youngest son joined the campers and this year will be his graduating year at camp.
The founders have truly recognized their vision. They wanted to give the boys of fallen heroes the outdoor experiences and male mentorship that these boys were missing my losing their fathers. Over the years, the board members have always evaluated each aspect of the experience and have evolved into an amazingly well -rounded foundation. They now offer a program for the daughters of fallen heroes as well. Now that we have our own property and camp, they are offerening up events throughout the year.
The best part of the whole experience is that the mentors are not here solely to show the campers a good time; even though they provide an amazing time. They are there for character building as well. They care for these kids as though they were their own...each and every one of them. I am very thankful that my boys and I are and will always be a part of the Knights of Heroes Family.

In September of 2008 my boys and I lost a very important member of our family, their dad and my husband. Every day, Every Month and Every Year comes with new and unique challenges. We are part of an ever growing population of people who have lost a parent/spouse due to our war on terror.
There are a number of opportunities and organizations that are there for my boys (13 and 14) with regards to their specific loss. Knights of Heroes is one of those organizations and they are the most impactful. They are there not just for the week that they attend their camp. They are mentors and friends for life. My boys have attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the past 5 years and they gain such respect by spending time with the male mentors. The respect that they would have shown to their dad on a daily basis if he was still here. The camp is composed of outdoor activities that they would only experience if their dad was able to be here or by them going to this camp. Roughing it in the outdoors for a week is not something most moms are willing or able to do. I am very greatful to Knights of Heroes for inviting my sons to attend their camp and for all of the emotional backing that they offer my boys, from both the mentors and their peers that are going through the same things. We love you!
I have been honored and privileged to be a part of the Knights of Heroes family for the past 8 years. Both as a Mentor and Board of Directors member I have seen firsthand the incredible impact this organization has made on Gold Star families. The challenges and life lessons instilled during one of our outdoor adventure camps or retreats are priceless and truly teach children (and adult volunteers) resilience that carries over into their day to day lives. The friendships and relationships that naturally develop between participants enable powerful and meaningful connections that can last a lifetime. Those who volunteer truly have the families' best interests in mind and the foundation has an incredible track record of maintaining their focus on providing support to the families of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
My children and I started attending camp together in 2013 and we still love every single interaction and every summer or small group experience. The mentors stay in close contact with my children and they feel as if they have an extra adult they can reach out to if they need to. Forever grateful to camp and mentors!

My children and I attended Knights of Heros for our first time a few weeks ago. The kids absolutely loved the experience and can't wait for next year! They tried things they wouldn't be able to experience otherwise and talked to other children and mentors they were able to easily relate to. I am greatly appreciative for what the camp and mentors offered to my children. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I began going to Knights of Heroes the first year it ever happened. I was a camper for 10 years and now continue to go back to every year as a mentor. This camp has done so much for me growing up without a father and teaching me what it means to be a real man in this world. Every year and every experience from knights of heroes has taught me something about myself or about about the world, in particular nature. It has been one of the most influential things in my life and I don't think I'll be able to ever repay what knights has given to me. Everything about this camp is right and has taught many boys and girls valuable life lessons that they wouldn't have if it wasn't for this camp. I love it for the people, place, and love I receive from everyone at this camp and will forever cherish the memories and continue to build upon them in the future.
Where do I begin? My son started with Knights of Heroes a very shy and meek young man. After several years of personal goals the mentors set with these youth, they grow in spirit and confidence. KOH has provided my son with positive mentors, an amazing outdoor experience, and lifelong friendships, all in which I could not provide for him. These children greatly need this challenging experience, that encourages them to work hard throughout the year. At 16, my son has an outgoing personality and learns something new about himself with each experience. Thank you for this life changing program!!!

This was my son's second year in this wonderful program. He entered with low self-confidence and is now blossoming into a self-reliant young man. Every year he is making goals and continuing to strive for more. I feel confident that he will enter the world with the faith based foundation he needs to succeed and rise above the challenges life gives him. There isn't enough room on this form to tell you what this program means to our family. Thank you Knights of Heroes!
A terrific organization both grandson and granddaughter have attended the camp grandson volunteers there now

Our granddaughter and grandson have been attending Knights of Heroes camp from its beginning. We feel that it has played a big part in their healing since the death of their Dad. Both of them feel very comfortable because all the kids are in the same situation as they are. They look forward all year long to see old friends and make new ones. We have been fortunate enough to interact with other children that have attended camp and see the positive influence it has had on them. We can't say enough good things about Knights of Hero as we have seen what it has done for our grandchildren and other children of the military. We would encourage anyone to donate to this great organization.
I have donated to this organization multiple times because I've seen the camp at work and the effect it has had on many children. The children have been dealt a rough hand in life, but they are shown life does not end and you can still soar. For some, this is their first time meeting another child that lost a parent in the military. That can be life changing to be around others just like you. I will continue to support Knights of Heroes as long as there is a need.

My older son attended one year and aged out. He was excited to return this year as a volunteer for the camp. My younger son just did his third year with KOH and it's the only camp we will continue to attend until he ages out. There are many camps out there they could attend, but none will give my children the guidance, confidence and self esteem to move forward in life. I appreciate mentors are paired up with the children one on one so my boys have someone they can fall back to if they ever get stuck in a rut. My children are are learning what kind, caring men look like in life and I hope they will model them later in life.
Knights of Heroes is a top rated camp for both boys and girls. This camp helps children and teens accomplish goals through outdoor activities. My boys have been able to use strategies from goal oriented tasks they have achieved from the various activities they completed.
Not only have my sons lost a father to war they have struggled with growing up with only have a mom. This year they were able to attend the KOH camp and it has been life altering. My oldest son found a power within himself that he had yet to discover and he found men that he knows he can trust and call on for anything. The last year our life has been in shambles and he opened up to his mentors about it and they offered to help and give him peace of mind. After camp they talked to me and within 2 days of being home there was a knock on the door from someone local checking on us and making sure that we were ok. I will forever be grateful for the love, compassion, and strength that this organization has shown my sons and I.
My son came back as a person with confidence, courage, and the ability to get gain new friendships that will last a life time
I've been a mentor with KOH for 5 years now and I can honestly say that this program continues to improve and become more impactful every year. Watching the boys grow and become more confident young men each year is truly incredible. There are many worthy programs out there, but this one has proven and verifiable results that will positively impact these young men for the rest of their lives. I call it "The Miracle Camp".

I call this the miracle camp, because I've seen them for the last two years I've been a Mentor. This is a truly impressive forum for kids to have an absolute blast, heal, make lifelong connections, and observe the positive male role modeling that many of them do not have at home. It is an absolute honor and privilege to be associated with such an awesome organization. KOH is worthy of every ounce of time and treasure that comes it's way.
Being a mentor for Knights of Heroes is one of the greatest opportunities I’ve ever had and one of the greatest programs I’ve ever been a part of. Spending a week with the greatest young men and encouraging them as they transition towards adulthood is an incredible experience that i am very proud to be a part of. Steve is an inspirational leader...campers and mentors alike benefit greatly from his leadership and I hope to be a part of this program as long as possible.
I was a camper for 7 years. And those seven years changed my life. I truly believe i am a better person because of KOH. They have done so much for me and will go to the moon and back, and do it over again for us campers. They welcomed me with open arms and made me feel so accepted. They adopted me in such a low point in my life and I truly believe if i didn’t have Knights, I would be struggling to find myself today. Everything I was taught throughout those seven years carries with me today and to others that I share that same wisdom with. I came back this year(2018) as a mentor for first year backpackers/high adventure. I worked alongside a past mentor I had. These men are some of the wisest and caring people I know. And if I could even give an ounce of what i received to these kids then I am happy.
This was my 7th year serving as a Mentor to the teenage girls. It is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. Returning to see the girls one year older and reconnecting with them is so rewarding. And, then to see them year after year until they graduate is a special thing. Each year they mature just that much more and try new and tougher challenges and it is great to see. KOH offers an amazing experience to push and empower the girls.

This was year 5 of volunteering and serving as a mentor and again loved it so much. It really is one of my favorite weeks because it is such a great thrill to see the campers return year after the year and see the growth and maturity of each one. It's great to learn how they applied lessons and set and achieved goals during their school year, or learn how their year was and what challenges they faced and overcame. Really great to see their enthusiasm for reconnecting with their friends and other mentors who love them unconditionally.
KOH week is the highlight of the year for me each year, and inspires me throughout the balance of the year. The program integrates challenging high adventure activities daily in the Rocky Mountains/Rivers with earnest mentoring from humble, devoted, strong fathers who give up a week of their time with their own sons/daughters to help a mentee realize their true potential and overcome doubts/fears, and in so doing, honors the lives of those fathers who gave their lives to protect and preserve our freedom. Each day a mentee approaches a new challenge with a high-adventure mentor, and as a team, they face latent fears that span fear of water (white water rafting), fear of heights (rock climbing & high-ropes courses), fear of falling (downhill mountain biking & low ropes courses), fear of others (each mentee/mentor pairing are part of a team that works together), and through the shared confidence of mentors and sheer enthusiasm and courage they are exposed to, the mentee begins to see themselves and their potential abundantly and clearly. Daily values are embraced as well, like Responsibility, being Proactive, being Bold, and Leadership are embraced and applied, and mentors share their experiences with those values to further illustrate their importance. As the week comes to a close, great memories are made and shared and stored in a common experience that reveres the memories of fallen fathers, and fosters a path forward that is fueled by gratitude for those fathers and self-confidence fostered by their experiences forging courage and character in the mountains of Colorado at KOH. If you listen carefully during a certain week each July, you can hear the the words "Rise Up" echoing from the Rocky Mountains as the sun rises, and as the sun sets...from the young Knights of Heroes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be a mentor/volunteer at Knights of Heroes in 2014. The training, the staff, the activities and the facilities/environment were top shelf. I saw young men help each other find courage and friendship in the context of an excellent camp high in the Rocky Mountains that will help them overcome and achieve throughout their lives. The resilience and humility of these kids is remarkable, and I am certain that their fathers who have fallen in service to their country are very, very proud.
I volunteer here every year. The results year in and year out are amazing. The program is very challenging and rewarding for the kids. They learn so much in just one week about what it means to be a leader, have moral and physical courage and to approach life in a positive way.

As a five year mentor, the impact on the kids is evident as they grow each year. Great organization, great leadership!
All three of my children love Knights of Heroes! They all really needed this so much! To have a mentor that spends time with them and does challenging activities with them that a father would be doing with them. Also, to be around other kids who understand how they feel means more than words could ever say. It meant so much to me to be able to spend time and to be able to connect with the other mothers/widows who were there while our kids were at camp. My children and I am so very grateful to you all for making this happen! The kids came back with so much more self-confidence in themselves all around and they were so happy! One of my sons was so sad to leave that he had tears in his eyes saying good bye to his mentor.
Thank you so much,
Stacy W.
It has been life changing for my son and I!!! I always look back to the first day that I left my son at camp four years ago! He was so painfully shy and couldn't even look his mentors in the eyes. I was afraid to leave him! He tried everything that first year but, couldn't physically finish most things. This year he completed a 29 mile hike!! If I could say one important thing about this organization, it is that it teaches these kids to work for what they want. Along with years of encouragement from many mentors, my son is constantly working on his shortcomings throughout the year so that he can accomplish things at camp. He looks forward to the challenge and he looks forward to seeing his new family all year long. So, it's not just a camp, it's a challenge and truly sets it apart from any other camp for children of the fallen. It has changed my shy little boy into an amazing young man. He is a go getter!! He is almost an Eagle Scout, a straight A student, and active in church. He doesn't have his father but, now he has many amazing men in his life. I can't thank you enough KOH.
We are an Army GoldStar family. I have two young boys. My fellow GoldStar family told me about Knights of Heroes and referred us to attend the camp. My oldest son had a week of fun filled experience at camp. He did a lot of activities that his Dad would have done with him like hiking, rafting, archery and other outdoor fun. It helped him build his confidence and strength. My younger son and I also enjoyed our time there. They had so many activities to do. I appreciate everything that Knights of Heroes do.
This is the seventh year my children have attended KOH. I simply can't say enough great things about KOH and the work they do. The opportunity to be with other children who share the same loss.... being with amazing and supportive mentors who encourage them to be responsible and courageous.....being outdoors and doing things most of them don't get to do at home..... the list goes on. Thank you KOH.

For the 5th year my children have come to Colorado to participate in the Knights of Heroes summer camp program. It is by far the best experience we have had. The staff, the mentors, the volunteers all do an amazing job to bring together these children who have suffered a terrible loss and show them them the traits of perseverance, responsibility, determination, honesty and integrity - all while having a wonderful time in the Colorado wilderness. I am grateful for this experience for my children. Thank you KOH.
I have been involved with KOH since 2011 and each year I have witnessed it change lives, for both the kids and the volunteers. This organization is nothing short of amazing and I am glad to be a part of it.
After having worked with Knights of Heroes as a mentor and now a shotgun instructor for the past eleven years, my feelings about this organization remain unchanged. The Knights of Heroes Foundation is, by far, the finest non-profit organization in this great Country. To see the faces of young boys and girls light up, after accomplishing things they never felt they could, is reward beyond expression.

It was hard to believe that it had been ten years since the first KOH Camp, but it has been. The excitement and enthusiasm of the boys and girls was just as high as it has always been. They were all were looking forward to the activities of the week. Their smiles and excitement conveyed the message to everyone involved that we are doing a good thing. The Knights of Heroes' new camp site, while still a gem in the rough, met and surpassed all expectations. With the support of wonderful people who truly care, it will soon become the perfect place for deserving families to enjoy year-round.
I have had the pleasure of being associated with Knights of Heroes for 11 years. I have literally watched young boys grow into men and move into higher education or the work force. KOH provides much needed mentorship to boys and girls who have lost a Military parent in Iraq or Afghanistan. Surviving parents have seen incredible improvement immediately after and in the time between camp. I am a strong believer in KOHs methods and results. Rise Up!

I have volunteered with KOH for 10 years now. I have watched young boys who were hurting and lost grow into young men with direction and principles. This camp puts obstacles to be overcome in front of each camper and through this teaches them that life can be tackled one step at a time. The camp also pairs campers with men and women of character who truly care about each and every child. These "mentors" work through their example to instill the core values of KOH in each camper. No better Nonprofit out there for helping Gold Star Kids.
Knights of Heroes is an amazing camp for my kids to be able to experience all the things that their daddy would have done with them if he was still here. They come home feeling confident and so proud of themselves for all they have accomplished and also are comforted knowing they are not alone, and get to spend time with other children who have also lost their parent.
Knights of Heroes Foundation has been such a blessing to my three children. They look forward to camp each year. The children have made life-long friends through Knights of Heroes. All of the children have suffered the loss of a parent in the military, so the children share a common bond. The mentors for both the boys camp and the girls camp are amazing people. They are fantastic role models for the kids to look up to. Knights of Heroes Foundation is just wonderful!

The Knights of Heroes Foundation is an amazing organization! They go out of their way to make sure the children of our fallen military are cared for and not forgotten. Knights of Heroes is a week-long camp that my three children look forward to all year. My children have strong bonds with both the mentors and fellow campers. The mentors are such wonderful examples for the children to follow and aspire to be like as they grow. We feel extremely blessed to be a part of this outstanding group!
My daughter had the opportunity to participate in the Girl's Program this year at KOH and she had a magnificent time! She was enabled to try activities she didn't have the chance to do before and she was able to realize her full potential is limitless. It really boosted her confidence with all the positivity and motivation the staff provided her and how friendly all the campers were. She can't wait to return next year to push herself even more with new skills and challenges!
I have had the privilege to be a mentor at KOH for 2 years and a volunteer for the last 4 years. It is an organization that is truly dedicated to these kids and I wouldn't think twice about supporting them in any way I could. The camp is run by high values and standards, creating a safe and supportive environment for the campers to share common loss, while still encouraging campers to believe that despite what they feel, they can push beyond their limits to achieve amazing things. This is the most incredible organization and resilient group of kids I've ever met. They continue to amaze me each year!!!
One month shy of the first anniversary of their father's death, my 14 and 15 year old daughters were able to attend the Knights of Heroes camp. They had a wonderful time, developed leadership skills and bonds with fellow campers who've experienced a similar loss. They returned for the second time this year and had another amazing, life-changing experience. Thank you so much to Steve Harrold and the KOH staff!
Knights of heroes taught me that I can do anything If I believe and put my mind to it. It truely is the best week of my year for this past couple years. I literally cry on the way home to my house on the car ride home because the love and support is so strong at camp. You grow close with people so fast which is unbelievable. I didn't think I would ever find a support system, someone anyone to understand the loss of my dad. But I did I found many leaders for guidance . Makes me want to be a better Me because I've been pushed to those limits and know I can go beyond them everyday. Thank you so much to the mentors for listening, a shoulder to cry on, a sarcastic joke to laugh at, and most importantly that you believe in me even when I didn't. I struggled a lot this past year with my grief and for a while I didn't think I was going to make it but you gave me that extra boost to keep trying when things get rough. Because boy every activity was rough I wanted to give up but I never did ,mainly because you all wouldn't let me, and that I can find another path. Look at something in a new light and know that the end result is worth it. I'm going to get my act straight and go to class more research colleges, army possible, workout and be the best possible Me I can be. I don't know how I'm going to make it this year but Koh has given me the support and tools to do it on my own. So thank you again knights of Heroes for being my rock when mine could no longer support me.

I love knights of heroes so much. I've been going since the girls camp opened and I have grown so much from it each year. It is the highlight of my year and I hate leaving. I've built many long term friendships. I push myself to the max at every activity we do such as rock climbing, I put my everything in to getting to the top by pulling myself up 3 times just by my finger tips. This camp has helped me grow into the young women I am today. I get to be myself at camp and relax. KOH is just so much fun and I am honored to be able to go every year.
An absolutely amazing nonprofit organization providing children with the necessary mentoring, fellowship and community, all while experiencing stunning and rugged Colorado ! The KOH campers leave camp with a sense of adventure, freedom, bravery, and a heightened self-worth! They also learn to listen to their peers and offer support and comfort! It's an amazing experience for everyone involved with the camp, from the campers, the mentors, the activity leads, the kitchen staff, and the mothers (when they see their kids return rejuvenated and empowered)!
My son had his first KOH experience this year. His father and his uncle gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country when he was a few months shy of 1. These were the two best men in our life and family who are not able to be here to instill the manly values in my son. In all the years that I have been raising him, I have not been able to give him what KOH has given him in just one week. We have had a tough year as he is entering his teens, I have been frustrated and worried about his future as a man but, KOH has impressed upon him some great values and skills with great role models and all around amazing experience in just one week. I look forward to next year and the great things to come from my son. If he turns out to be half the man his father was, the world will be a better place. Thank you KOH for this experience for myself and my son too.
What an honor to spend time with young men whose fathers paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I have mentored the last two camps and am proud of the man my mentee is becoming. During many of our high adventure activities, he showed courage and overcame some personal inhibitions. This 13 year-old ran a mile a day for several weeks in preparation for this year's camp. He came physically and mentally prepared for camp. The administration at KOH is top shelf and I look forward to serving with them for many years to come.
This was my first year volunteering with KOH and I was impressed with the dedication of everyone involved. Everyone put the cause first and stepped up. It was a blessing to share life with these young men for the week, and KOH ensured there were countless opportunities to push our limits. I was humbled to take part and hope to come back next year.
I have been a mentor with KOH for two years now. I was amazed to see the progress that many 10 and 11 year old boys are making towards becoming men. In just one week I saw many kids that started out as whinny little boys who were driven to tears by small challenges on Monday become bold young men who began to encourage others by Friday. The camp is professional, well run, well staffed, and a complete blast... and the food is AWESOME!

I found out about the Knights of Heroes foundation through a FB friend. I just got back a couple weeks ago and I have to say that this was the best week of my year.
This organization has the best cause and really runs a great schedule. This is a great adventure and time for the kids and the mentors.
I would highly recommend this experience for anyone. Well done.
This is a terrific non-profit. Its whole purpose is to teach kids how to grow up and become productive adults in today's society. It offers them a one week camp where their limits are pushed doing activities some of them have only read about (ie white water rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc) These kids father's made the ultimate sacrifice in service to ur nation. We owe it to them to ensure their children maintain the right path.

This was my first year as a mentor and it has changed my life. It was one of the most impactful weeks in my life. I worked with some of most extraordinary men that significantly care about these boys. In addition, I was able to achieve some personal goals of mine like rock climbing. I will be back next year!
Confidence. Self esteem. Friendships. Mentorship. Memories. There is an endless list of ways Knights of Heroes camp has positively impacted my sons. Camp ended over a week ago but I am still hearing about my son's amazing experiences!
Knights of Heroes is a fantastic foundation! They have provided my three children with memories to last a lifetime. The mentors are top-notch. They all seem to really care about the welfare of the children attending. These children, who have lost their father in the military, look up to their mentors. The mentors are positive, Christian, role models. The week-long camp provides amazing adventures for the kids. My children have been white water rafting, mountain biking, tubing, mountain climbing, hiking, and camping. The new ropes course at the camp is "the best ropes course ever" according to my daughter. KOH is a wonderful organization!
My son's first time away by himself without mom or brother to look out for him. Understandably he was nervous and unsure about what was in store for him. He does not handle change well and wanted to leave, but he had a very patient mentor work with him all week and showed he really cared. My son gained confidence he didn't know he had, faced his hardest fear and surprised himself in the process, and knows his mentor will always have his back. All the mentors I met were kind, very caring and have our children's best interests at heart. I felt welcome at all times and no questions were off limits. Everything is transparent and I don't have a negative thing to say about the whole program.
This camp for my children provided them with the time of their lives in the wilderness of Colorado for a week this summer. They did activities that I as a widow could never have done with them like high ropes courses, white water rafting, and shooting rifles on a range. I am so grateful to be invited to this camp and cannot wait for KOH 2017! RISE UP
Watching these children take on the challenges presented to them during camp is amazing. It is even more fascinating watching them encourage each other and build lifelong bonds.
I have sent 3 of my 5 children to KOH for summer camp and the entire experience has been life-changing for all of us. The children not only have a blast and do the most amazing things; they also hang with other kids in their same shoes and validate the loss of their father in a way that proves to them that they are not alone. They literally grow in emotional leaps and bounds while they are gone for this week. They develop characteristics like confidence, respect, honesty and integrity. Meanwhile, the mothers get to know each other and share resources, experiences and stories. Many long-lasting bonds are created because of KOH. AMAZING PROGRAM!!!
This is my sons second year at the Knights of Heroes camp and he just loves it. He has had phenominal mentors who he has bonded with immediatley and he talks about the friends he made and the cool experiences he had. He has already determined that he wants to go all the way through to the "high-adventure" portion of the program. As for what I have noticed, his confidence level has increased and his leadership qualities have grown. He is learning to work within a team, be a leader, and come up with solutions to problems. Raising a quality teenage boy is a challenge for a single mom because I can't give him that "testosterone male one-on-one time", but this camp offers this experience for him. And I am truly grateful!
I have been a mentor for this program for two years and in all my years of volunteer work I haven't ever been a part of something this special. This program is more than just a camp, it's a place where young men can come and "live on the wild side" for a full week of adventure in the great outdoors. In a world of 17th place ribbons and video games it's hard for most young people to get actively involved with the world around them. This camp and the mentors involved have created and maintain a place where you don't just go to hang out but more a place where you come to challenge yourself, to face your fears, and to learn the most important values of what it means to be a man of honor and integrity. Having lost my father the year before I came to camp for the first time, it was easy to see and feel the pain these young men felt. To have the connections and guidance they receive through the friendships they build during this one week is astonishing and will provide them with a network of brothers to help them through the toughest of times for the rest of their lives. An experience that should be had by anyone looking to add real value to their life and to the lives of others.
A phenomenal camp - provides an incredible opportunity for young men and women to re-focus themselves and each other on positive moral and ethical considerations through fun and engaging activities. I'm a 2-time mentor, and I could not speak more highly of the positive impact this program has on camper lives and mentor well-being - everyone benefits from focusing on what really matters, especially to honor the sacrifices of our nation's best. Find a way to support his program, any way you can!
This charity provides an incredible experience for young men and women who have had to face challenges out of their control, the loss of their father. The Knights of Heroes encourages goals setting and achievement along with the opportunity to explore their abilities to achieve what they may have never dreamed they could. It's amazing that this organization is run completely by volunteers who give their heart and soul for these children.

My daughter attended camp again this year and had a FANTASTIC time! She said it's fun retreat with so many exciting activities. Shooting, hiking, camping, river rafting, horseback riding...she loved everything! The place where they stay is comfortable and very nice, so for a girl, it's the best of both worlds. Many thanks to Knights of Heroes for bringing other girls together who have experienced the same type of loss so they can bond together. They have made friendships that will last a lifetime.

This was the 6th year my children have been able to attend this fantastic camp! My son attends the boys' camp, and my daughter the girls'. They both look forward to the camp more than anything all year long. The benefits of the camp are two-fold for our family. First, it allows my children to go and experience activities they would not otherwise have an opportunity to do. Second, it is the only place where they are around other children who have experienced the same type of loss, and that is very comforting for them to know they aren't alone in their journey without a father. The mentors who guide and watch over our children do so with a tremendous amount of love and patience, and their influence upon our children stays throughout the year. We absolutely love this organization!
Serving as a mentor for KOH is probably the greatest service I have provided to my country that has included a 22 year career in the US military. To be able to give something back to the families that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country is the least I can do. The mentors I served with in KOH are some of the finest individuals I have ever met, 100% volunteers of their time and resources to a program they all believe in. This year I had the pleasure of watching numerous campers exceed personal goals that they had set for themselves by overcoming their fears with the encouragement of mentors and a new belief in their own abilities. Counting the days until KOH 2016...
Watching men come alongside these boys to spend the week with them mimics the service their fathers so freely gave. This program honors their family's sacrifice.
This was my 3rd year as a mentor for the girls program. Not only is this foundation remarkably well run and organized, the people involved as mentors and organizers all do so altruistically - NONE of us are paid. We do this because giving back to the children of our fallen heroes is a very, very small price to pay as compared to their fathers. I will gladly be exhausted for a week to possibly make a small difference in just one child's life. These people have become like a family to me. To Gold Star Families who are not yet involved: please, please, please consider trusting us with your child(ren). It WILL change them for the better. And for anyone who wants to support a worthy cause, I don't know of any other organization under which the largest portion of your money donated goes directly to these children. There is no huge staff of paid personnel. It's almost exclusively mentors and volunteers. Amazing camp, amazing people, amazing all the way around. I will be back for a 4th year of mentoring next year for sure! RISE UP!
This organization is a blessing to my family! My kids look forward to their week at camp all year long. They have gained lifelong friendships, confidence, and so much more from the wonderful people from knights of heroes.

Knights of Heros was such a wonderful experience for myself and my children. This was our first year coming to this camp, and look forward to returning in the upcoming years. My children lost their father 4 years ago, and the opportunity for them to bond with other children and learn lifelong skills by the mentors is priceless. My daughter came home with not only a smile on her face but more confident and a sense of accomplishment. I can't say enough about the dedication and kindness the mentors showed to the kids and our entire family. We really feel as if they welcomed us into a new family.
Knights of Heroes has been instrumental in helping my boys connect with other boys and girls who have lost their fathers in the military. KOH teaches the boys the traits and qualities of a modern day knight. They also inclue outdoor camping and activities while making lifelong mentors. This organization is a God send for my family!!
What an amazing experience for my daughter! Although they can never replace her father, the mentors and staff have given her hope, courage and a firm foundation on which to build an amazing future. My husband would have been so proud!
Amazing mentors who know how to guide children of the fallen, while learning to enjoys the great outdoors
This is exactly the type of program I was looking for after my husband was killed. I felt powerless in trying to get my kids the knowledge of the outdoors and foster their confidence in doing physical challenges that I was not familiar with---knowing that if Dad were alive, he would be teaching them all of these things. My daughter has emerged from this camp, even stronger and more confident. She can try new things and push her body to go beyond her comfort level. Next year my son will be old enough to participate in the boy's program and I'm so excited for him. Knights of Heroes is giving my kids what I cannot. Our family is grateful for these wonderful people.
This was my son's first year and he loved everything about the camp. He returned more confident and self assured. He felt like he had bonded with his mentors and the other kids in the program. He felt challenged to do his best and appreciated for his efforts. He and his mentor made a list of goals that he worked on at camp and that he was able to apply to our home life. This was a great experience for him and my son says he can't wait to go again next year.
This was my daughter's second year at camp and my son's first year. I can not speak highly enough about this camp for children of the fallen. The week that they provide for the campers is amazing. The kids come back with huge smiles on their faces, nonstop stories of all of their adventures and best of all excitement about returning next year! While the kids have fun, what sets this camp apart is the values and confidence the kids learn through overcoming and also giving back.
I would easily describe my daughter as very shy, quiet and withdrawn. I would even wager to say she had low self esteem and confidence before she went to camp last year. After 1 week she was a different child. She was chatty and smiley! I couldn't wait to see what this year held for her and now her brother. Again it was amazing!! This kid now has the light back in her eyes! It makes me tear up just thinking about it. The quiet confidence she is gaining from this camp translate into this child now ready to take on more difficult classes in school instead of being fearful and anxious. Asking her teachers, all on her own, to take a class she is interested in. There is no way that would have happened before. As for her brother, he has always been such an outgoing soul but afraid to try, afraid to fail. Now, he is ready to take on new activities that will require his effort. He has learned from camp not to give up but keep trying. I'm so thankful to this organization. Thankful that these amazing mentors give selflessly of their time for our children. So thankful for Knights of Heroes!!

So thankful for an amazing first year!! Both of my kiddos are already looking forward to next year, which will be the first year for my son. I can not speak highly enough of all of the people involved!! They give so selflessly of their time for these kids, for our families. It is very humbling!! My daughter is a changed kid! Challenges and hurdles are no longer impossible. What a difference this week has made!
As a third year mentor, I am so excited each year to see the growth of our campers from the year before. Campers who once had trepidations about rock climbing now take pride in their rock climbing prowess. Campers who were once withdrawn and quiet have found their leadership potential and care for younger campers. Having seen results for three years now, I am encouraged about the kind of young men and women our campers will be, confident that they will stand out among their peers despite their life situation.

I lost my father several years before my first camp experience, so I knew first-hand how crucial the influence a positive, adult role model is in the development of young girls and boys. I was eagerly looking for an opportunity to use my experience in a positive way, and found it as a mentor at Knights of Heroes. The program allows kids to bond with each other over their shared experience while helping them discover their unknown strengths. KOH has the opportunity to bring kids hope, while helping them develop into strong, positive and productive adults, who contribute to healthy communities.
I am a military widow with two boys ages 15 and 11. Knights of Heroes is dedicated to serve children that have experienced the loss of a military parent. The program offers the boys opportunities to connect with mentors that are of a military background to teach them that regardless of the circumstance they can conquer anything that they put their minds to do. Knights of Heroes gives my boys a chance to engage in activities that thier dad would have done with them had he been here to do so. The mentors and other voluteers in this organization are a critical component and make a huge difference in the lives of the children they touch.
Knights of Heroes is a great camp for kids of the fallen! It helps them know that they are not alone. It builds strong friendships that last forever. It helps you overcome fears and face obstacles. The mentors are amazing! They are truly there for the kids!
I was pleased to be part of Knights of Heroes. I did not think that I would have much to contribute as a mentor for these boys. Boys, like men in general, are not overeager when it comes to sharing their problems and their emotional troubles. I wondered how I would help them. I am not a father, nor did I lose my dad at such a young age. It ended up being a great experience for all of us. KOH focuses on wilderness skills and confidence-building activities. We showed them some difficult outdoor activities that they had never seen or done before, and the community of other boys was very powerful for them. The camp emphasizes responsibility, initiative, and hard work to them every day, without beating them over the head with it. Boldness, for example, is better taught through mountain biking than in it could ever be taught in a classroom. The camp exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to go back next year.
This is without a doubt the greatest cause for volunteering your time, to the kids of the fallen serving our country. There is no greater cause.
Knights of Heroes is a life-changing experience for everyone involved. As a mentor going on seven years, nothing has brought me greater satisfaction than hiking in the wilderness with a group of Knights. Their personal journeys of self discovery (and self efficacy) advance higher each year. Prodigious leaders are unmasked at this camp, it is quite something to behold.

I am a mentor for Knights of Heroes. When I came home from Iraq it didn't matter that I had a West Point diploma, Ranger Tab, and combat experience... I felt completely alone, isolated and cut off from everyone including my own family. Then I found Knights of Heroes. The kids I met in the program taught me this new expression of courage which is the courage to live on. You see, I had lost my will to live. But I learned that if these guys could do it, then I could too. I am so fortunate and blessed to be a part of this great organization.
My husband passed away while on Active Duty 3 years ago. This is the second year my son, now 17, has attended Knights Of Heroes camp. This event is one of the highlights of my sons year!
Although KOH can never replace my son's father, they certainly have stepped in a filled a huge hole in his life. At KOH camp my son gets to be a "Normal" young man. He experiences outdoor adventures, physical challenges, and incredible man to man bonding I cannot give him as his mother. The bonds that have formed with his mentors have been lifelong and life changing. My son has been able to work through many stages of grief through physical activity and real life scenarios. He has been given life skills that will go with him into adulthood. The KOH volunteers are the true heroes in my eyes. How many people give up a week or more of vacation and family time to work tirelessly to pour into the lives of others children.
I have also attended the Moms part of the program which is outstanding and allows the surviving spouses to bond and grow together.
KOH is wonderful, my children and lost there father and my husband in Feb of 2006 and in that time there has not been a male role model in our lives, so when the opportunity for my 2 youngest children came up to attend the KOH camp it was wonderful we all were able to attend and i say we because the moms program is just as wonderful as the camp for the kids,it offers much needed positive actives and mentoring for all of the kids my children have been able to learn and do things that that may never have been iterdused to them through the camp (rock climbing, shooting, rafting, mountain biking, real out door overnight camping )and the fact that all of the kids have suffered the same kind of loss. there is a wonderful kind of bonding that goes on through this camp my children and my self have made LIFE long friends and connections as well.

WOW where do I start with a review for KOH truly Amazing !!!! my children are 3ed year campers and each year is better and better my children look forward to camp all year it is right up there with Christmas and birthdays !! The time that KOH give to each child is wonderful the mentors they are just the best. my children have had the same mentors each year and it is wonderful to see the bonds that they are making with other kids and mentors this. there is no other organization like this KOH is truly amazing !!! love love love them already looking forward to next year :)
My twins just completed their last year at camp due to graduating from high school. This camp and this group of people who run this charity are truly Christian, wonderful people. This organization has helped my children with the grieving process and also have been mentors to them. My children have benefited from this organization more than I ever thought possible.
Knights of Heroes is a grassroots organization that puts everything it has into the kids. Everyone who is a part of it is a volunteer who truly believes in the mission. The foundation is dedicated to being a part of these kids lives for the long run.
The Knights of Heroes Foundation is the best! They help me through the grieving process. The mentors do things with me that I can't do with my Dad because he is in Heaven.
Knights of Heroes Foundation is one of the best organization out there. My experience with them was life changing for my son and I. The donors, staff, mentors, event planners and mom were the best. We enjoyed several activities that were planned for us and my son and we came back refresh, renewed and a positive attitude. I enjoyed each and every activity that was planned and I truly enjoyed spending time with the other moms wheather we were relaxing, hanging out or just having a one on one conversation. I could have spent another week. Knights of Heroes is what my son and I really needed and I can see and feel the love and support from every single person in the organization. I came away feeling like I gain another family.
My son attended this camp this year. He had an incredible time bonding with his mentor and other boys who have gone through the loss of their fathers too. For him, getting a chance to just have fun and be a boy is amazing. As a single mom, I can't provide that much needed male bonding that his father would have given him, so having this amazing organization who is willing to step up and provide that for him for an entire week is priceless for us. Thank you Knights of Heroes!
Knights of Heroes is great! I am a teen who has been attending the camp for six years. It leaves a big impact on kids lives. The mentors are great stand-up guys who really care about the kids!
I have been involved with Knights of Heroes since the first year. It has grown from 17 boys to 79 boys and girls. It is sad to have a need for such a camp but a blessing for Steve Harrold to offer it for these brave kids. They have been through more than any child should and to be able to spend a week laughing, sharing and making new friends with kids who share the same loss as them is priceless.

I have been a volunteer working with the Knights of Heroes (KOH) for the six years. The KOH experience has been as rewarding to me as it is to the young men attending. I have witnessed the positive impact that attending the annual KOH camp has had upon them. This year I had the opportunity to witness young men, who had attended the KOH camps as boys, return as mentors to work with the new boys attending the camp to the first time. Their positve impact was obvious. The new boys saw, first hand, what they will one day become even though their hero fathers will not be the ones to guide them. They know that their KOH mentors will do all they can to help fill that void and that their mentors will be there for them anytime they are needed.
KOH is simply the most effective program of it's kind. I became involved with KOH following the death of one of my closest friends. His children were 2 of the original children to attend at the founding of the camp. Since then, the camp has evolved into a program whose impact far exceeds the expectations for something with such a short duration. The program progression for the children keeps things relevant, exciting, and impactful as they continue to attend through their high school years. The proof of this is when they return after graduation to become mentors themselves. The 360 degree approach between mothers, brothers, and sisters puts the entire family on the same page when referring to tools taught and an effective means of implementation. As a mentor, I wait all year to live this week with these amazing kids. To witness, and get to take a small part, in their development as young men and future leaders can never be overstated.

Another amazing year in the backcountry! It's amazing how quickly the boys grow up. I am complete awe of how they adapt, overcome, and use that strength for incredible success. I am honored to be a part of the program, and honored to spend time with such great kids. Congratulations to our graduates! Can't wait to see ya'll next year as mentors!
I found Knights of Heroes on a suggestion of one of the Gold Star Families that attends the camp. Knights of Heroes (KoH) is one of the most incredible organizations I have found. KoH gives these children an opportunity to feel normal for a week, and be mentored by people that are equipped uniquely to deal with the grief and anger that comes up with traumatic loss. Most of the mentors are associated with the military in some way; many of us are either Active Duty or Prior Service, the vast remainder are spouses or have supported in some way the Military. The children that attend KoH are pushed outside of their comfort zones just enough to build their character and help them find self confidence. The difference we see in the kids over the course of just one week is really remarkable. I have seen a child go from a very timid wallflower who never smiled to a beaming and talkative child just over the course of a week. Even the child's mother was very (pleasantly) shocked to get her child back and see the difference!
I help work with the moms' program! The program is set up for the new moms to come and enjoy a week in Colorado with other surviving spouses. The first and second years the moms are in the program they get to enjoy river rafting, climbing, horseback riding, and dinners out with other women in their same situation. If they have other children too young to go to the Knights of Heroes camp, then those little ones stay back with their moms and participate in the fun activities.
In their third year, we ask the moms to volunteer and give back to the new firs and second year moms. We assign each 3rd year mom to an activity to help organize and run. This lightens our load as long-term volunteers, as well as helps the 3rd year moms give back to the program.
I have been with Knights of Heroes for seven years and I love it...it's a wonderful organization that eases our loss and brings us closer to people in similar situations.
Unlike other camps for children who have lost a parent, KOH goes beyond addressing grief. The program promotes long term resiliency, self efficacy, proactive thinking and leadership skills. I have three boys who have attended the camp following the loss of their Dad. The strong mentorship they receive has made a big difference in the young men they are becoming. Focusing on the future and the importance of character and integrity sets KOH apart from any other program!

My children have attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the past 6 years. After my husband was killed in action serving in Iraq, I was at a loss as to how to continue to raise our boys with integrity and character without the help and guidance of their dad. Knights of Heroes has provided amazing mentors in an adventure based program to do just that! The program has helped our boys heal, grow and has also helped them recognize their responsibility to the world around them. This program has changed my children's lives.
As a mentor, this has been a life changing experience for me. There is no better way to honor our heroes than to care for their children. These kids are amazing! I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of Knights of Heroes! I can't wait until next year!
I have been attending Knights of Heroes camp since I was 7 (the first year of camp) and now I am 14. Knights of Heroes camp is my favorite camp I attend in the summer! I love attending this camp because I don't have to explain about my dad because everyone is in the same situation. The male mentors are great and I admire Steve Harrold so much, they sincerely care about my future. Being able to do activities like shooting, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc with guys is priceless!
My daughters and I attended the Knights of Heroes camp this summer. This was our second year. We absolutely love this camp! The girls, boys and moms were challenged and soared to new heights. Both of my girls loved rock climbing, mountain biking, archery and the high ropes course. They were thrilled to shoot shot guns and throw hatchets!!! Two things we, clearly, are unable to do at home. My girls enjoyed the beauty of Colorado and truly have a better appreciation for God's creation.
We love this camp because they empower our kids. Each child has lost a military parent while serving in our Nation's Armed Forces. Even though these kids have suffered tremendous losses, the Knights of Heroes leaders and mentors refuse to let the kids play victim. Instead, they encourage them to "rise up" and overcome. It is comforting that the camp is based on Christian principles and I am delighted by the way each mentor encourages each camper to be their best everyday.

I attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the first time this summer. It was awesome. I am 12 and my sister is 10. We were nervous at first, but the leaders and mentors were so sweet and super nice. We felt a lot of love from them right away. My dad was in the Army and was killed in the war 5 years ago. It is hard to grow up without him, but we're doing OK. It was really nice to be at a cool camp with kids like me. We didn't have to explain where our dads were. We all already knew. So, we could just be kids. Colorado is beautiful! And this is an AWESOME foundation!
My children recently returned from a week at the Knights of Heroes camp. My gratitude is immense as they shared experiences that they had with the volunteer staff and other participants. They had experiences that I would never have been able to provide for them. Since their father's death several years ago I have felt sad that they would never be able to experience 'typical' father-child activities. The Knights of Heroes Foundation has created a program where our surviving children no longer have to miss out on these experiences but also receive mentoring and role modeling from much-needed male figures.
My son participated in his 3rd year at Knights of Heroes and I am deeply indebted! He has learned how to manage himself in challenging situations that require independent thought. He has learned how to lead. He has learned that he is capable and he can push himself. He has learned a lot about himself thanks to the incredible mentors. He has discovered some of what he would have learned from his dad - had his dad been around to teach him. This organization understands how important it is to lead a boy into manhood with emphasis on character and values. My son has gained insight into his future and his potential and he will use this to guide him into adulthood. Grateful to this organization!!!

KOH is an amazing opportunity for young boys and girls to reacquaint themselves with their self confidence since losing their parent in the war. Many people don't realize that when a parent dies suddenly, the child feels very unsure of what he understands about the world. The loss can be so devastating and have a deep and quiet affect on the self confidence and self esteem of a developing child. I have witnessed my son literally "BLOOM" when he returned from spending 1 week at KOH. The camp philosophy is oriented toward allowing the child to rediscover his or her potential in a safe environment where everyone has experienced loss. Through activities and challenges, the kids are encouraged to rely on themselves to problem solve, dig deep, and reveal that they can accomplish difficult tasks with team work and support. Just like a dad would do, this camp allows for physical experiences and mentoring while learning about the world. It is a place that honors what the dad did, exposes the children to the outdoors, and teaches so much that would have been lost. The KOH experience is life changing, thoughtful, fosters growth and confidence, and exactly what my son needed! Thankfully, he will now have this incredible experience to draw from as he becomes a man!
I had never heard of Knights Of Heros Foundation until My Grandaughter and my 2 Great Grandchildren returned from Colorado this past weekend. They came to visit me, and my great grandaughter sat on my lap (she is 12yrs. old) so excited about her week at camp. This young lady, who is usually not very talkative was so excited, and with a big smile on her face, started telling me what a great time she had, and allof the things she got to do. Things, that her Daddy would have done with her, could he have been here. It was hard for this grateful Grandmother to not let her see the happy tears swelling up in my eyes, as she talked. Her brother who attended Day Camp ( as he was not old enough this year), was very happy to take part in all of the activities for his age group. They can't wait until next year. They made new friends, done new things, and were so grateful. Thank you " Knights Of Heroes Foundation" (A nonprofit org.) which now have my admiration, and my support...... THANKS to "all of the volunteers" for the wonderful work you do, with love. Thank you also, for the help you gave my Grandaughter, and the smile you put on her face!!! A very grateful Grandmother. I will be telling others of your great organization. :)
As a participant in this camp, I can tell you first hand about how awesome it was. The mentors were friendly, goodhearted people who made this camp worth while. One of the many things I enjoyed was the mountain biking. In conclusion, I have to say it was very refreshing meeting fellow children of the fallen heroes and making friendships that will last a lifetime.
My husband died while in the Army, serving in Iraq. He left behind four children. My youngest son had the opportunity to attend Knights of Heroes. This camp afforded him the opportunity to be with other men and engage in activities that are best learned through other men. He also worked on character traits that are vital to growing into a well balanced, responsible, respectful, and productive young man. He returned from camp more centered and confident in his abilities and in his future. There is simply to way for me to adequately thank Knights of Heroes and the volunteer Mentors.
I have never been but my nephew is the one who started this camp. He is a great person for doing this for these kids. Steve has a big heart and really likes doing this for the kids. My brother-in-law, Steves father helps out as many others do. It is great opportunity for the boys and girls who go. Everyone can't stop talking about the great time they had. As the boys get older they come back to be mentors and leaders.
As a friend of 2 women that have lost their husbands in war, I have seen facebook pictures and posts of their children enjoying the opportunities Knights of Heroes provide. It warms my heart to know the children of our fallen soldiers have people like you care enough to give them these experiences. God bless y'all
Nothing like acting on God's plan of serving widows and their children in distress! "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless to look after widows and orphans in distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
Serving at Knights of Heroe's touches the spirit and moves the heart! Love the mom's and children who push on in times of difficulty!
What an amazing organization! My daughter and grandkids attended for the first time this year and had such a wonderful experience. My grandson wasn't old enough for camp but the activities provided for younger kids and moms were awesome! My granddaughter couldn't stop talking about the experience and it is usually hard to pry a word out of her mouth. I am one very grateful grandma! Thanks to all who helped.
So thankful for the opportunities that this organization provided for my niece and nephew. They had such a wonderful time at camp and I truly feel it helped them grow as young people.
Knights of Heroes is truly devoted to the well-being of the boys and girls who attend and the mothers who send them. They have had a simple mission since the inception of the program and have not strayed from it. These are amazing kids and the mentors who devote their time are passionate about the well-being of the kids and their futures. The difference this program makes in the lives of the children of our nation's fallen is tremendous. I look forward to next year's camp.
I have been envolved in the Knights of Heroes since it startred. My son Steve is the founder. He had devoted time and lots of love in the camp. We have seen boys and girls grow and develop a respect for family and themselves. They find understanding and respect for their fathers and the sacerfice their lives made. They are surrounded by others that have been through the same experience. The mentors are generous and caring adults that have given of their time and open hearts to young boys and girls that need support at a turning time in their lives.
The knights of Heros camp has had an enormous impact on my two sons. My youngest son just graduated from the camp after attending for 5 years and my older son returned to mentor after graduation. Both boys have grown into responsible, committed and passionate young men. I attribute a lot of their maturity to the mentoring and support that they received at KOH. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone who has lost a spouse in the military and is looking for mentoring and guidance for their children.
Another amazing year! Each year, one week at Knights of Heroes exceeds my expectations formed from the previous year. What an organization!
My son and I just finished our first year at KOH. We are still sharing our wonderful stories with each other.
As an "only" parent I work hard to provide for my sons needs. There are however certain things I cannot provide no matter how hard I try. Knights Of Heroes has stepped in and filled in those much needed gaps by providing amazing male mentors (Thank you Collin), positive male role models, a week of outdoor adventure and a challenge to "Rise Up" beyond the circumstances. I believe the experience my son had this week of camp has been life changing and life challenging. Thank you KOH !
As a first year mom I also was challenged to step out of my "comfort" zone and try new adventures. I was amazed at how many of these physical activities represented this journey through grief. While white water rafting we worked as a team, facing rough waters head on, pushing through the fear and then around the corner we would find a beautiful calm river.... so much like life.
Thank you KOH leadership for pouring your hearts and time into the lives of our families.

1st year volunteer. Was impressed with the entire program. From volunteer staff with their impressive military and civilian backgrounds, which many of the campers relate too, to the activities which provide physical and mental challenges (such as rock climbing, mt. biking, skeet shooting, archery, hiking, water sports etc.) More important than the activities are the confidence and the camaraderie built among the campers throughout the week. Extremely rewarding as a volunteer and I can't wait till next year!
We just returned from an amazing first year at KOH. The kids smiles and stories have not ended. Thank you KOH. The many volunteers and mentors are truly selfless and make a lasting difference in not only our children but ourselves.
We just returned from our first year at KOH. This trip will go down as one of our lifetime favorite camps. It was truly a blessing to have a week to experience God's beautiful creation. The activities were both relaxing and challenging, the support was outstanding! The children discovered some qualities in themselves they never knew existed! The location was fantastic and we look forward to attending camp next year!
KOH has been around for 7 years. Every year the camp grows and improves to serve the needs of these incredible families. The foundation is very open about finances. Tax returns can be found online at www.knightsofheroes.org; any additional information such as annual budgets can be obtained upon request.
One of the goals of the organization is to purchase land and have a place where families can escape year around. Additionally, programs will be offered throughout the year which will open the door for more kids to enjoy this unique program.
This organization is amazing! The Knights of Heros camp is not about babysitting or entertaining the kids, it's about instilling in them life-essential values that will help ensure their smooth transition to adulthood. These kids have lived through something no kid should have to experience. However, KOH is there to help them overcome and go on to become the men and women God destined them to be.
When my husband died 5 1/2 yrs ago, one of my biggest fears was raising 2 boys alone without their dad. I was very concerned about raising them to become great men of courage, faith, and confidence. I wanted my boys to have great men in their lives as role models. I am very grateful to Steve and the organization for bringing my boys into this family or courageous, Christian men. It makes my heart smile when a mentor affirms my parenting and compliments my sons character, leadership, and his abilities. It is healing for me and for both of my children. After my husband died, my oldest son's confidence plummeted. However, within this organization, he receives encouragement, team building, leadership, and life skills. They are learning to be grateful and to give back to the community. The mentors are grooming our sons to grow into hardworking, faithful, committed men. The mentors give their time and efforts to the organization wholeheartedly. I know they truly love our children. The volunteers dedicate many hours to the organization to ensure they are meeting the needs of the leadership, families and organization as a whole. I am grateful that we are a part of this organization. Both of my boys look forward to camp each year. They feel safe, secure and most of all normal. They understand that they're not alone in this grief journey. They are building life-long friends who will share the journey with them. Thanks to knights of heroes.
This is a great organization. The activities of the campers are all to support certain values. It's a great nonprofit and I will definitely volunteer again.
KOH has meant the world to my sons and I. This year was our third year, truly an amazing time. Though I know the program was originally intended with the children in mind; the help and support the moms and younger siblings program had provided has helped me cope with losing my husband better then any other "therapy" I could have received! My older son continues to flourish and advance with the help of selfless mentors. The praise, guidance and devotion they demonstrate is a testament to what KOH is all about. My younger son has found so much comfort in being with children just like himself. As a fourth year mother this year I am looking forward to help raising funds for this remarkable program as well as offering in any other way I possibly can.

I've been involved with Knights of Heroes since 2007. My contribution is guiding horseback rides for the ladies, daughters and sons. The ride has become my favorite event of the year. Just to see the smiles and happiness the ride provides is very emotional. I love my involvement with Knights of Heroes and hope to continue volunteering with this organization.
Saturday, 3 August, was the first time I attended the end-of-program gathering of participants from the entire program. I was blown away by the awesome mentors, leaders, and participants. My congratulations to all for an outstanding program.
Knights of Heroes works with kids and young adults who have lost one of their parents in the war. We challenge these young people to do things they probably thought they couldn't do. We have individual mentors for each camper who goal is to let these kids know that they are not alone and we are there for them. I watch as a new camper comes in and don't know what to expect. They normally make friends quickly with the other kids because they share a common theme are immediately accepted. You watch as the week gos on and the ones who seemed a little shy at first is right in the middle of everything. They feel safe because they can tell all these men they come in contact with really care about them. My grandson has been coming to this camp since it started and he loves it and is one of the things he really look forward to. I have seen these kids come in and have watch them grow into confident young men, who some come back after graduation as junior mentors wanting to share with the new kids all the great things they have done and to help them have a great experience like they did. I highly recommend this camp because the ones running it truly care about the campers and not only do they want them to have a great time but they want to instill in them that they are not alone and that they can meet any challenge that comes their way. We want to watch them grow into confident men and women.

I have volunteered for the last 4 years and can,t tell you how much I have enjoyed it and have seen the boys really grow in these years. They have a lot more confidence in themselves and they start to open up to others around them and even help the new ones who might feel out of place. Each year you see them get a little stronger and a little more sure of themselves. My grandson has gone for the last 5 years and I know how much this camp means to him. The mentors really care about each boy that comes to camp and we have seen several of these boys turn in to young men that we all ought to be proud of. Young men with confidence and courage and know that we will always be there for them
Knights of Heroes makes a difference in the lives of the families it serves by teaching life lessons to the children that attend; lessons about responsibility, leadership and most importantly an understanding that we can't let negative life events control who we become and how we go through life. We as Americans owe our freedom to these families and their incredible heroes.
The Knights of Heroes Foundation is an amazing organization. My boys attend the KOH camp each summer. They look forward to it all year. The adults who work with the boys are such wonderful examples of what kind, good, ethical men of character look like. They tell the boys to "rise above" and hold themselves to a higher standard. The children who attend these camps need good male role models and the men at the Knights of Heroes camps are just that. My children lost their Daddy in a helicopter crash in Kuwait. My boys look up to the volunteers at KOH. They are, quite simply, men of honor. I am so pleased that the boys get this opportunity. What a blessing it has been. The boys get to test their skills, increase their self-confidence, and push themselves with outdoor activities.
I just wanted to write an additional review to help Knights Of Heroes toward the 2013 top rated award. Words cannot explain the look on a boy's face when he has just overcome his fear and climbed a 50-foot rock wall for the first time, or the embrace of two girls, who, in just a few short days have both made a friend for life, or the tears in a mother's eyes at the end of camp when she tells you she's just seen her child smile for the first time since her husband died. These things keep me coming back year after year.
Knights of Heros is an organization which we fully support. Their goal of supporting children, of veterans killed while on active duty, is heartwarming to us. The KOH help these children realize their own potential and cope with the ultimate sacrifice that their parent gave to their country. We support the mentors for this one (1) week camp in the Colorado environment and we appreciate the caliber of the veterans (mentors) who understand what the military family endures.
I have been involved with Knights of Heroes for two years. KoH is an amazing organization with incredible leadership and selfless volunteers whose sole aim is to help children. The kids get a week to challenge themselves in a variety of adventures, meet up with exisitng and new friends, and spend time in the Colorado outdoors away from any daily distractions. I have seen firsthand the difference this week can make in a child's life and it is truly remarkable.
I have been a mentor for Knights of Heroes for 2 years and love the organization. It really helps the sons and daughters of fallen soldiers grow and experience things most of them would never do. It helps them grow emotionally and mentally and challenges them to live life intentionally. It's a great nonprofit.
I have worked with Knights of Heroes for the last five years. I am amazed every year at the impact a one week camp can have on my life as well as the lives of the boys & girls who attend. These young people have already faced adversity in their lives, but gain so much from spending time with other boys and girls who have been through a similar experience and with men and women who care about them and want to see them grow into outstanding men and women themselves. I'm hooked!
My daughters attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the first time this summer. My husband, their Daddy, was killed in action in 2007. The girls were 4 and 6 at the time. This is probably the first time my girls have truly opened up and talked, with other kids, about their Dad. That opportunity is priceless. They felt safe because they were among other girls who have lost their Daddies, too. They didn't feel judged or pitied. They were truly among understanding, compassionate and delightful friends. And the mentors are AWESOME! The KOH camp is deeply rooted with strong Christian values and I love that, too. Safe. Beautiful. Helpful. Inspiring. We would love to go back next year.
My sons been with KOH since the first Camp, they lost their Dad in Iraq in 2004 , there was many times I was afraid I won't be able to make the Boys successful young man, that will overcome the grief and the Situation we was thrown in ... then they started attending KOH and all my fears went away after seeing what immense impact this Camp and the mentors have on my boys....I am forever thankful and I hope KOH will last as long as children like my boys be there.... My oldest is now a Master at arms in the Navy reserves ,starting college in a few weeks and is also a mentor for KOH, my 13 year old is a great young man that stays out of trouble and knows what it is all about to be a good ,respectful young men ...all thanks to KOH..... Knights of Heroes is one of those special organizations that is not just feel good, but truly life changing. It gives boys, girls, and their mothers a chance to meet with each other and share the unfortunate experience they all share: losing a father or husband. It is an absolute joy to work with these children and teach them a little of what their father may have stressed. Work ethic, meeting challenges, fostering relationships, and developing integrity are integral to life and at the core of Knights of Heroes mission. This group does an excellent job teaching these children to meet life head on.
My son and daughter have attended for the past 3 years. Their father KIA June 2009. The camp and the awesome volunteers and mentors have been amazing. Im very grateful for their support and helping them with the loss over their dad with positive support. thank you knights of Heros
My son and I are incredibly grateful for all that the Knights of Heroes mentors and members of the organization have done for us. Being around other boys who have also experienced the loss of a parent and spending time with the mentors has made a positive impact on my son's life. Thanks KOH for all the hard work you put into this camp and for caring!
Knights of Heroes has been a wonderful experience for my two children. It is a time they come together with others in the same situation and they can be free to share similar experiences. The well planned out week of activities with incredible mentors adds to the love and support we feel. It is a blessing and honor to be a part of this generous organization.
My son Cameron has been attending the KOH camp for the last 4 years. Each year after camp I can see the impact the mentors and the experience has made on my son. Total strangers have stepped in and helped to make my son the productive and responsible young man he is today. I cannot express enough how very blessed we are to have been a part of this organization and have come to love those who make it possible. We are so greatful for everything KOH has done for our family. Stephanie Dostie Clarksville TN
My son Carson has attended the Knights of Heros Camp for the past two years. This camp has been a blessing to our family. For one week he feels like he belongs, because everyone else at the camp is in the same situation that he is. He looks forward to going every year, and he learns so much. As a parent this me so much to me, and I'm very grateful to the Knights Of Heros Foundation.
knights of Heroes has been an invaluable piece of healing and support to my two sons following the death of their Dad. This week long camp allowed my children to challenge themselves while exploring the many facets of grief in a safe, supportive environment. The mentoring they received and the skills my boys learned at Knights of Heroes has been an enormous contributing factor in the wonderful young men they have become. I highly recommend this camp to anyone who has a child who is grieving the death of a parent in the military,
My husband and I have been involved with this camp from the beginning. He has served with the boys camp and I have helped with the moms. This camp has been life changing and life giving for both of us. We are who we are today because of this camp. We are raising our children differently and our relationship has been changed by this camp as well. Knights of Heroes is one of the best things that we have ever had the privilege of being a part.
I've been going to KOH for the past 5 years and have loved each year. It's such an awesome camp where I get to bond with other girls in the same situation as me (losing my father) and exploring my own strengths/weaknesses. My mentors are so amazing and encouraging, I know I can always count on them to be there for me no matter what. This camp has changed my life and I absolutely love it!!
I work with Combat Wounded Vets and Gold Star Families within my recreation programs in my position of Field Activities Director with Military Warriors Support Foundation. The kids that come hunting out at Purple Heart Ranch with me are so enthusiastic when they talk about their times at the Knights of Heroes Camp and how much they are looking forward to the coming summer at the camp. The programs that are provided at the camp are a fantastic basis for helping these kids grow and mature.
Steve Harold has taken a vision and has made a great program with multiple layers of benefits, most that won’t be evident for years to come. Steve’s passion is clear when you speak with him. This organization is one of the finest out there - not only for its mission but for the execution of it as well. We will continue to work with Knights of Heroes and hope to get every one of the campers that want to go hunting out into the outdoors.

My name is Jacob Bordelon. I am 14 years old. My daddy name Michael Bordelon died in May of 2005. I was little then and don't really know what to feel. Lately, I have been feeling that emptiness inside because I wanted to hang out with him. What I like about Knights of Heroes is that I'm around boys like me. They have have also lost a love one and I like the fact that we are all together. It is fun meeting new kids. It is also fun meeting new mentors who volunteer their time to be with us in the camp. What I think Knights of Heroes mean to me is to bring together a bunch of boys facing the same problem to do the things that we could have done with our dads. We did rock climbing, fishing, canoeing, and other stuff. Me and all the other kids had fun at the camp especially this year at Joey T's ranch. We met Bill Colburg and Ryan the actor from my favorite movies. I learned a lot from my mentors. The best about this year's camp is that we ate good food provided by Schwans and the other thing is that we did not have to set up a tent. We slept in the cabin. Sincerely, Jacob Bordelon
I can't say enough about this wonderful group. Since my Husband was killed, Drew was just not the same. When he was invited out to the camp in 08, I went along. It was not only life changing for him, but it was such a great time for me as well, finding friendship with others in our same situation. I am so grateful for all that has been done for this awesome group and all who are involved. THANK YOU! You will never know what it has meant to Drew and I, can't wait til next year!
this camp was a fun experience for me and my brother and i cant wait untill next year we met alot of people and got to ride with the patriot gaurd on their motorcycles we also met bill goldberg and he let me sit in his new camero climbing pikes peak was hard but fun and an expereince i would like to do again- nick fortenberry
This summer was the first time my son (and I) participated in KoH. To say it was an awesome experience is an understatement. The time my son spent with the mentors, organizers, sponsors and other young men/boys who lost their dads created memories and friendships that will last him for a lifetime. He's still telling our friends/family how he climbed Pikes Peak. We both walked away with a better perception of what a generous heart and kind spirit looks like. I also appreciate that the mom's were allowed to tag along (from a distance). I believe we had just as much fun as the kids and mentors!

Your son can come back as a mentor.
