Review for Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, Quantico, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Such a great service to our veterans and to rescue dogs.
I love that they offer fun events to the community to get out their message.

I am currently a foster at OPH Rescue since April 2014 but a volunteer since February. I have fostered many dogs this year and was not looking to add to my pack. My intended roll was not to foster but to volunteer dog training. Last year 2013 I received a certification in dog training. Though I have had a few times to use my training skills and given a lot of advice it quickly changed when a team member was having health issues and needed to find someone to take in her foster. I could see that all the current fosters had their hands full so a offered to help. That was all it took. Even though the dog was a handful with lots of energy, when my new friend and team member Karen was ready to take her foster dog back she said she noticed that her foster dog was a little more manageable. That's all it took, I got the foster bug. I mention all of this because OPH rescue has so many opportunities to volunteer and I was able to find my way with their wonderful patience to let me fumble my way and try different things. I have adopted a wonderful dog that fits in with my pack and with my job as well. She is only 6.5 lbs. She sits nicely on a lap and tolerates all the petting and love she is given, as I am a nurse in my professional life and am fortunate enough to be able to share with my patients what she gives to me, unconditional love. Though I am a volunteer I still had to go through the same process as everyone else. The volunteers are very motivated to move the process along as quickly as possible to find these shelter dogs their new homes, without sacrificing the safety of the dog and finding you the right dog. Thank you OPH rescue for letting me be a part and letting me make a difference and letting me adopt the sweetest angel ever "Little Annie".

I started off wanting to give back to the dogs by volunteering dog training. I recently received a dog training certificate and that's the way I was going to do it. Next thing you know I'm transporting, fostering, collecting items for our sister shelters. I have even donated a few dollars here and there.
OPH has something for everyone. Luckily I have my limit on dogs or I would adopt too.
That's what it's all about, to give these dogs a home and OPH gives you the opportunity to find your niche and give in your own way. Thank you OPH for giving me the opportunity to figure out where I fit in.
