Review for HomeAid Atlanta, Inc., Atlanta, GA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

HomeAid Atlanta is a very special organization of which I am proud to be affiliated, both professionally through Monte Hewett Homes and personally through the donation of my time. HomeAid has many programs, events and other ways for local builders and their employees to get involved and have a significant impact on the lives of the temporarily homeless in Atlanta. They continually add and change programs to find ways for people to be involved at any monetary/time commitment level. The Essentials for Young Lives drive, which collects essential items for homeless babies and toddlers, is the event i look forward to most every year.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

delivering donations of essential baby items to one of the shelters in Atlanta. the faces of the children are filled with such hope - it is something you never forget.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

separate it a little more from the GA Home Builders Association - so that maybe more exposure can be put out to the non-building community.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working on the first Project Playhouse event. It really brought our internal team closer together and was one of the true highlights of that year for our company.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so committed! there are never questions of "if?" but only "when" and "what else can we do?"

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build shelters and educational centers for EVERY homeless mother and child in Atlanta! Just think what they would be able to teach them to get them into new jobs and permanent housing!

Ways to make it better...

the building community in Atlanta was able to be as involved as in previous years. We just didn't get as many donations as we had hoped for.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

their ever-shrinking staff. There are MORE homeless people in Atlanta, and yet this organization has LESS people to do MORE work - and with less money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the leadership of HomeAid Atlanta is exceptional. even with the smaller staff/team, the organization has continued their signature fund raising and building events seamlessly which, to me, is a testament to Ann Carey.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
