Review for Wounded Warrior Project, Jacksonville, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My experience with Wounded Warrior has been completely different from what I had heard and researched, and certainly different from what I had expected. As a 25 year transitioning Veteran, I was looking for employment with a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) to continue to give back to service members; I knew I could not cut ties completely. I dropped my initial resume with Wounded Warrior in August 2015 and was pleasantly surprised as to what transpired.
My initial contact with Heather set my first interview for a coordinators position. A few weeks later I spent about an hour with Chelsea during my first interview, feeling that it had not gone very well. I was shocked to not only hear back from Chelsea, but was recommended to apply for a manager’s position. Chelsea set me up with Linda from the Warriors to Work program in order for me to revise my resume, work on interview skills, and general tips to put my best self forward as I went through the interview process. As I thought about it later, why would you select me as a potential candidate if my resume needed work? I thought my exit transition had done a fairly decent job of assisting me in preparing a resume. Little did I know?
Not only did I get good advice, I had a much better resume and felt better prepared. Linda assisted in revising my resume, coaching me through the interview process, providing me with tips and pointers from someone who has interviewed candidates for Fortune 500 companies. Linda and Chelsea continued to contact me, updating my progress and the steps necessary to secure employment with Wounded Warrior. Sometime after the New Year, Linda sent me an employment listing for another VSO in the San Antonio area. Linda then sent an email to the Human Resources Director of that VSO informing him of my decision to apply for the position and emphasizing my knowledge, skills and abilities; something she did not have to do. I am waiting to hear from both Wounded Warrior and the second VSO, but without Chelsea and Linda, I would not be where I am now. I had the opportunity to meet Linda in person, explained my situation to her, and without thought, she picked up the phone and made a call on my behalf, providing me with valuable information in order for me to make an informed decision.
I felt, especially after talking to Linda on numerous occasions, woefully prepared by the exit process of my service. As a senior service member, I could only imagine how a younger service member felt, how they were (or were not) prepared for transition to civilian life and employment. The family at Wounded Warrior, from my recruiting coordinator Heather, through Chelsea, Linda, Brian N., Ryan, Brian S., John, Theresa, Ferdinand and Tim, have helped me navigate not only the Wounded Warrior process, but also provided me information, resources, and enthusiastic support in working towards my own desire to support other service members.
Understanding what was available to me from Wounded Warrior, how they could assist me and my family has made a tremendous impact on me personally. I owe the entire staff a debt I cannot repay. Regardless of future employment, I will continue to support and volunteer to support the Wounded Warrior Project and those they serve.

Review for Bunkers in Baghdad, Buffalo, NY, USA

Rating: 4 stars

Bunkers in Baghdad was instrumental in getting our unit started with a mentor program overseas to get more Soldiers interested. With BIB assistance, we got more people playing and outfitted the majority to play at a local course in Kuwait City. Thanks to Joe and the team at BIB for their help.
