Review for Brighter Dawns, Bridgeview, IL, USA
Brighter Dawns is the inspiration of one woman, but it has the potential to affect the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of women in Bangladesh. Tasmiha Kahn's vision is to promoting a human right: access to clean potable drinking water, and a secure private place for women to both wash themselves and their clothes, will lead to healthier lives for women and children, and promote the rights of women. Tasmiha Kahn's inspiration is already becoming concrete in some of the worst slums in Bangladesh and bringing smiles and hope to hundreds of women. By engaging the women of the area in their own future and working with them to insure that whatever plans are put in place come from them, Ms. Kahn is helping these women to help themselves - a very powerful form of aid that will surely endure.
Ms. Kahn's vision, energy and commitment are not unique among young people wanting to make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate than themselves. What makes Ms, Kahn's Brighter Dawns unique is the methods she uses: engagement of the women who will be most affected. They now have ownership of the wells and the washing facilities - and it will be much harder to take that away from them!
