Review for Debes Creer En Ti, Irving, TX, USA
This non-profit, Debes Creer En Ti (DCET) offers a tremendous opportunity for adults to get and education and learn valuable job skills. Some of the participants do not know how to read in their own language before entering the program. Its heart warming to see how proud students are when they accomplish certain goals and graduate from various levels of the school. I absolutely love attending graduation ceremonies and other DCET events. Families can choose to be in the cultural side of the program by joining the Ballet Folklorico and Family Values activities . Children learn traditional cultural dances and music, andthey perform at many local events. These performances are absolutely amazing. As these young people graduate from high school they can earn scholarships for college. The organization manages time and money well making do with very little. They also have great voluntees and community sponsors who recognize the value to the community. I have been familiar with DCET since it was organized over 20 years ago and continue to be impressed with the quality of services that are provided. I think it is a Great Non Profit and should be recognized as such!
Review for Debes Creer En Ti, Irving, TX, USA
As a DCET Board Member since 2006, I have observed first hand the good work done by this organization. The school, La Escuelita, provides literacy and ESL education as well as GED and citizenship support. Cultural and family programs are also provided through the Folklorico dance training group. I think it's great that adults can get an education and their children benefit as well. Special workshops on family values and job training also help to build strong families with fewer school drop outs and fewer problems like drugs. Training through DCET encourages children both to stay in school and plan to go to college with college preparation and scholarships.
DCET meaning "Believe in Yourself" is operated mostly with volunteers and a few paid staff. It would benefit greatly with funding for more paid staff. I think it's an outstanding service organization and a tremendous asset to the community. I am definitely proud to be a part o it.
