This non-profit, Debes Creer En Ti (DCET) offers a tremendous opportunity for adults to get and education and learn valuable job skills. Some of the participants do not know how to read in their own language before entering the program. Its heart warming to see how proud students are when they accomplish certain goals and graduate from various levels of the school. I absolutely love attending graduation ceremonies and other DCET events. Families can choose to be in the cultural side of the program by joining the Ballet Folklorico and Family Values activities . Children learn traditional cultural dances and music, andthey perform at many local events. These performances are absolutely amazing. As these young people graduate from high school they can earn scholarships for college. The organization manages time and money well making do with very little. They also have great voluntees and community sponsors who recognize the value to the community. I have been familiar with DCET since it was organized over 20 years ago and continue to be impressed with the quality of services that are provided. I think it is a Great Non Profit and should be recognized as such!

The Hispanic/Latino Community should be very proud to have an organization that cares to pave the way to a smoother cultural assimilation without losing the original values of their wonderful people that have come to the US to try to live the American dream. Thank you, DCET!

Debes creer en ti is an example to follow, its dedication and care for the students, the follow ups, the enthusiasm and effort with which those involved put to every single student, the organization itself is something that makes us proud to be a part of and in the challenges that are overcome in every task, every chore and the willingness of everyone to see it become successful until the end year after year for the past 5 years that I have been involved

The leadership is what makes DCET the success it is today

Anyone seeking to make improvements in their lives by means of acquiring new knowledge should most definitely consider DCET. I have had the opportunity to be a volunteer at this wonderful nonprofit organization who helps students reach success. From learning English as a second language, learning how to use computer programs and aiding those in the citizenship process, DCET helps the people in the community to excel. DCET also offers the Folklorico Arts Mentoring Amigos (FAMA) program where youngsters learn leadership through mentoring. Even more, DCET offers a fabulous college preparatory program that prepares students for college.

I was very impressed with this community learning center in Irving, Texas. The faculty members do a great job
with their clients/students in guiding them pertaining to their needs, whether it be English, Spanish, or sometimes
other languages. As they advance their educational studies they then can take computer, GED, Citizenship studies.
I have seen clients come in not knowing writing their own proper language which they have to learn before advancing to
English etc. It's a long process for some students, housewives, workers as teachers work with them as time allows.
La Escuelita is open 7 days a week but at the end- their graduations are very satisfying to all.

I assisted DCET as an advisory council member when they started in business in 1995. This corporation is awesome! They are a ONE STOP SHOP teaching ESL, GED, Citizenship and computer classes. I have assisted DCET with Graphic Arts Design and understand very well their great mission. These are the awards that they have received:

“Excellence in Education” award by Dallas Mayor Laura Miller - 2004
“Community Volunteer of the Year” award by DFW International – 2004
“Community Achievement” by the Irving Hispanic Chamber of Commerce – 2005
“2006 Women of Spirit Award” by the American Jewish National Congress – 2006
"City of Grand Prairie proclaimed" May 16, 2006 as Elvia Wallace-Martinez’ day - 2006
"Real Women Award"
" Courage-Confidence-Character award from Girl Scouts of Tejas Council – 2006
"Community Choice Award" by Center for Non Profit Management - 2012
"Friendship Award" by Asian American Chamber or Commerce - 2013

They also have a great Prep-College Mentoring program which compliments with their FAMA (Folklorico Arts Mentoring Amigos) youth program. This is their website: www.dcenti.org
I do compliment this wonderful organization.

As a DCET Board Member since 2006, I have observed first hand the good work done by this organization. The school, La Escuelita, provides literacy and ESL education as well as GED and citizenship support. Cultural and family programs are also provided through the Folklorico dance training group. I think it's great that adults can get an education and their children benefit as well. Special workshops on family values and job training also help to build strong families with fewer school drop outs and fewer problems like drugs. Training through DCET encourages children both to stay in school and plan to go to college with college preparation and scholarships.

DCET meaning "Believe in Yourself" is operated mostly with volunteers and a few paid staff. It would benefit greatly with funding for more paid staff. I think it's an outstanding service organization and a tremendous asset to the community. I am definitely proud to be a part o it.

Cultural assimilation is not an easy task. Change even good change is hard. Immigrants leave a way of life and begin the difficult task of learning a new language and different social customs. DECT has not only helped immigrants through the assimilation process for twenty years, but more than that DCET provides educational opportunities. Through DCET persons learn to read, earn a GED, receive scholarships to further their education and even a bachelor's degree through the online program with the University of Guadalajara. Through the Arts Amigos Mentoring Program DCET has helped first generation children to excel in academics and to attend college. In the photo are DCET graduates and a scholarship recipient.

Elvia Wallace Martinez provides a wonderful program to help our community have a literate workforce. Elvia, also known as Nina provides a school where anyone can register to take GED, ESL or Citizenship classes. She organizes mentors to help immigrants succeed in our American society and she also helps maintain our Hispanic culture by celebrating cinco de mayo in our Irving community. The proceeds go towards scholarships which included one for my son a couple of years ago. I have had the privilege of working with Nina for the past two decades, sending my students to perform at her celebrations. She is a loving person and sweet soul, giving the shirt off her back to those that need it to succeed.

Elvia Wallace does a great job in connecting our Latino community members with resources and provides a great amount of services to those that really need the help. Through Debes Creer En Ti, low income families are given the opportunity to succeed. The programs offered to children, youth and adults help fill the gaps that are sometimes left among our Spanish only speakers due to lack of knowledge and education. I like that Debes Creer En ti is a family oriented organization and that every member of the traditional Latino family can benefit from it in many ways.

DCET has improved my life and the lives of my students in such a wonderful way that I could never pay Nina and her hard-working staff enough for her dedication and passion to help others. Through mentoring my 22 students and providing basic needs like school supplies, my students have fallen in love with La Escuelita and always ask when we will meet again. They get one on one help with math or reading as needed and we teach them dances to perform at different community events to promote their cultural heritage. Thanks to DCET these children are part of a caring program that keeps them safe and united away from drugs and gangs which is prevalent in their West Dallas and South Irving neighborhood where most of the children live. DCET is a lighthouse for my students and me. We come together as a strong group thanks to the guidance of Nina and her warm staff.

The name alone really says it all! This organization is a great example of what recognizing some of the most basic needs in the community can really translate to. It really only take the vision of one and the work of many to help a community and that is exactly what DCET does. They strive daily to recognizing the need of the community and try their hardest to meet them, while helping raise the awareness. The school, La Escuelita, provides literacy and ESL education as well as GED and citizenship support. Cultural and family programs are also provided through the Folklorico dance training group. DCET services are for those who are trying to better themselves through education.

I have been with DCET since 1998. I was a Board member back in 2002 and have learned about how great this organization operates. They help all immigrants that want to become productive members of the Country. I am a Mary Kay Sales person and I know how important it is to operate with good standards - DCET has it all. ESL, GED, Citizenship classes, Information and Referral, they help seniors that don't know how to even write or read in Spanish, so is difficult for them to learn English. Well, DCET helps everybody all the way to College. Their Pre-College program is a great internship for High School students. I am in favor of this Non Profit to reach the stars. Thank You.
