Review for Pound Animal Welfare Society Of Montclair Inc., Montclair, NJ, USA
PAWS is a non-profit shelter that does a wonderful job taking care of the animals and adopting them out. Each animal is spayed/neutered and vetted before the adoption. It may seem like the adoption process is a little long, but that's because PAWS wants to be sure the animal and person are compatible. I've been a volunteer since 2001 and worked as a receptionist for 4 years when they were in Montclair. ADOPT DON'T SHOP for your next pet.

PAWS of Montclair is the best. After losing their building in 2008, they have continued to take care of the many animals coming to them. All animals get a complete check up, vaccinations, and spay/neutering if it wasn't already done. Then they are ready to be adopted out. Some might think that the adoption process is too long, but that is because they want to be sure the animal and person/people are a good match. ie-do you work from home, or are you home all day. Do you have other pets in the household that might or might not get along with the PAWS dog or cat. Are you looking for an energetic or laid back pet?
Due to the pandemic it's been harder to raise funds to care for the animals. so the volunteers and board members are working thru virtual and outdoor events to to raise money to continue to give the animals the care they need until they are adopted.

PAWS is a group of wonderful, hardworking volunteers who work to get animals into good furever homes. All animals are vetted before being adopted. The volunteers work many hours on adoptions and fundraisers. I've been with PAWS since 2001 and find it so rewarding when an animal goes to its furever home.

If an animal has to be in a shelter, this is the place to be. The animals are not in cages. The dogs run free, in a fenced in area, on the property. The room where the cats live are set up like a room in a house. The staff and volunteers are very caring people. There is no time limit as to how long an animal stays there.

I have been volunteering with PAWS since 2001, and was an employee from 2004-2008. PAWS is an outstanding organization. Animals are never judged by their breed, looks or age. PAWS pulls dogs from other shelters that have been there a long time. They are fully vetted and put up for adoption. The adoption form might seem a little long for some people but that's because PAWS wants to match a dog to the people, ie-their family, how long the dog will be left alone, do they have other pets, so it will be a permanent home. The volunteers do cat adoptions on most Saturdays at Petco in Verona, and now that it is warm, at the Farmers Market in Mtc. All events are run by the volunteers. We have a tricky tray/holiday bazaar, Comedy Night, yard sale, Fair in the Square. PAWS runs solely on donations.

I am a volunteer with PAWS Animal Shelter. In the 16 years that I've been volunteering, I've seen the most caring people at PAWS. Animals are not judged by their age, looks or breed. Each animal PAWS takes in is given every opportunity to be adopted into a great home. At times, it takes longer to complete an adoption than other shelters, but that is because PAWS doesn't want the animal to come back because it is not the right match. After Angelo crossed over the rainbow bridge in August, 2015, PAWS helped find me Brucie, a wonderful hound mix. Not to replace Angelo, but to give another dog a good home and a chance to have a good life.

I started volunteering, walking dogs, for PAWS in 2001. No animal is turned away because of their breed or age. The board members and volunteers dedicate many of their hours helping the dogs and cats that come to PAWS. There are adoptions days, the holiday bazaar, yard sales, comedy night, Barnes & Noble gift wrapping to help raise money, to take care of the animals until they are adopted. It's a lot of work, but so rewarding when an animal goes to it's new home. I am proud to be a member of this team. I am a pet parent of Angelo, a former PAWS dog.

I started volunteering, wrapping gifts at Barnes & Noble, for PAWS in 2001 and volunteered at the Holiday Bazaar the same year. Then I started walking dogs on the weekends and I noticed how many animals were being adopted. The staff and volunteers were great with the animals and the people that came in. I also noticed that PAWS was open 365 days a year! I thought, that is dedication!!! I began working part time as the receptionist in Nov. 2004 - Dec. 31, 2008 when PAWS relocated. So many volunteers are there much longer than I am. Many times I was there after closing because someone wanted to see an animal and was coming after work. So many PAWS animals have gotten new homes with people who love and care for them. I've been co-chairperson for the Holiday Bazaar for the last 10 years and I've organized the PAWS yard sale for the last several years. What a wonderful organization to be a part of. My fantastic dog, Angelo, was adopted from PAWS 9 years ago!
