When it comes to helping animals of all varieties there is no place better than Best Friends Animal Society. They have for example, separate areas for dogs, cats, horses and pigs. They have a special area for wild animals too. Not only to they rescue and rehabilitate animals in need, but as in the case of the Michael Vick pit bulls, they retrain them to be the best pet they can be. They help, shy, agressive or just play scared dogs to be loving and sociable companions.

After checking Charity Navigator, I have to say they do spend a high percentage of their money soliciting funds. I realize that it is a vicious circle. That you have to spend money to get money but perhaps they need to evaluate their 'target audience'. I did find the heart tugging story of Floyd a bit heavy handed but lots of animal rescues do that. I was going to send them a donation but when you see the high percentage of income used for fund raising it is disheartening.

I have been a long-time supporter of HUA. They rescue dogs from puppymills. They take in dogs that have come from closed down shelters, hoarding situations and any other reason a dog may need their help. I have sponsored Sanctuary Sweethearts for many years. These are dogs that are very intimidated by people and often have to stay at HUA their whole lives. This is a wonderful NO-KILL shelter for dogs and I am proud to be a monthy donor and also a lifetime supporter of HUA.

I have been a GREY2K USA supporter for many years. I am so encouraged by their successes in getting better treatment for greyhounds. They keep me up-to-date with what is happening at racing tracks and give me many opportunities to supply my written support for their work and take a stand to end greyhound racing.

They aren't a rescue organization but what they do is very important for the future of greyhounds. They are working hard to eliminate greyhound racing in the few, thankfully few, states that still have it. They have been able to take greyhounds from the racetrack and get them into rescues.
