Review for 826LA, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

826LA does a wonderful job helping elementary, middle and high school students fulfill their potential as writers and students. The organization provides after-school tutoring for students in a fun, supportive environment. It sends volunteers into high school classrooms to work one-on-one with students on their writing--something their over-taxed teachers do not have time to do. It organizes cultural field trips for students that have a writing component. The organization also provides outstanding fun and educational summer programs for ESL students. Adults with writing skills are able to use those skills in a direct, effective way by volunteering with 826LA.

Review for Children's Burn Foundation, Sherman Oaks, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Children's Burn Foundation is an outstanding organization that makes a direct, essential, positive impact on the lives of severely burned children and their families as well as many other children who receive age-appropriate instruction on burn prevention. The executive staff of the Foundation are exceptional--committed, professional and thoughtful. They do a wonderful job using the funds raised by the Foundation's Council as efficiently and effectively as possible to do the most good.

Volunteering with the organization ensures that you will (1) learn much more about burn treatment and prevention than you ever knew before, (2) have a chance to connect with and bring joy to burn survivors at the children's day camps or the annual children's holiday party, and (3) meet some other wonderful volunteers.

Personally, I wouldn't miss the children's holiday party. Many of the children and their families return to the party year after year. I have been attending for five years and so have had a chance to see first- hand how children have recovered, looked better and better, and grown stronger, taller and more confident over the years.
