Review for NeedyMeds, Gloucester, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As one who has benefited greatly, I am thrilled to write this review in support of the NeedyMeds organization!

Like many who lost jobs during the "Great Recession," I also lost healthcare coverage; unfortunately, in the 21st century, in these great United States of America, this is what happens. I paid for coverage through COBRA for as long as I could, then for an individual insurance plan until that too became unaffordable.

I am thankful that the Affordable Care Act became law; at least some of the problems of access to healthcare have been ameliorated. Through this law, I now receive Medicaid benefits whereas prior to its passage, I did not qualify. It was during this time that NeedyMeds was a godsend, enabling me to at least afford my prescription medications.

There are hundreds of thousands of people like me, middle age, and through no fault of our own, among the long-term unemployed. Prior to the passage of the ACA, there was nothing available to assist with the exorbitant cost of prescription medications, except for an organization like NeedyMeds. This is why, as I add to my education in preparation for a new job, career, or self-employment, I made a modest donation to the organization, even though I remain unemployed, and why, when I am better able, I will gladly donate more.

Needymeds is a Godsend! Without the significant discounts that I receive on my medications thanks to this organization, I am not sure what I would do.

Although I am working now and thoroughly enjoy my job, it is part time, temporary, and does not provide benefits of any sort. I would really like to ask members of Congress what people like me are supposed to do when we lose healthcare benefits (including prescription drug coverage) along with the loss of a job.

Being middle aged, finding another job is difficult, COBRA is not financially sustainable and ends after 18 months, even if one can afford it to begin with; most Boomers are too young for Medicare, and don't qualify for Medicaid.

I have shared the Needymeds information with others, and when I am able, I will support this organization to the best of my ability!
