Review for Catholic Charities of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA

Rating: 1 stars

Unfortunately, the experience listed by "Licoricecat" is pretty much similar to the welcome I received when I called to offer my services as a volunteer mediator. I was rudely told that I was not needed. They weren't interested in my qualifications nor my experience. A friend of mine also called, this time for (non-monetary) assistance from them, and was rebuffed, as well.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Although our area is predominantly Catholic, and raises millions for this organization, I highly doubt that the general public realizes how rude this staff is to people who call it. If I were them, I would change their attitude, or risk losing their funding if this goes public.

Review for Food Bank Of Western New York Incorporated, Buffalo, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This group helps feed over 96,000 folks in WNY each year. I used to just help my company do can fund drives. However, last year, I was rear ended by a drunk driver, and my whole life was irreparably changed. Having had to rely on others for donations from their food pantries gave new meaning to me. It was indeed a humbling experience. SO, when I had the chance to "give back" to the Food Bank, by helping with a food drive at the Erie County Fair, I decided to take it. It was easy to sign up by e-mail, and a great way to give back to a group that literally made sure I didn't starve. They were easy to work with, and the people I met through it, were very glad to give of their time, as well. We corresponded back and forth by e-mail and they mailed out free parking passes, and a free fair pass (although I needed two, as I was volunteering with another person- so we had to fix that snag before the day).

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be sure the letters that go out to volunteers are more specific with directions. The only fly in the ointment was that they sent me a letter asking for a monetary donation before I had even volunteered for them at the fair. And, since I had explained in my personal experience of bring in dire financial straits, it made it seem like they hadn't read my correspondence at al.
