I am a longstanding support of Partners for Women & Justice, having first become involved as a pro bono attorney. I was at first surprised to learn that victims of domestic violence have to represent themselves in court. Partners provides lawyers to victims so that they don't have to face their abusers alone. I was also able to counsel clients on the many rights afforded them by our domestic violence law. Without a lawyer, the victims are left to the mercy of the court and the hope that they are assigned a judge who knows the law and will take the time to get it right. As an attorney for Partners I have been able to secure child support for victims, to require abusers to attend anger management counseling, to limit child visitation and require that it be supervised. Partners provided support to me along every step of the way, even providing free training and materials. Partners' attorneys make a real and lasting difference in the lives of their clients. This is a wonderful organization.
