Democracy without oversight is a really bad joke. Government is just people and we all know how greedy and self-serving people generally are. This fact of life requires demanding constant accountability from our peers who are responsible for writing and enforcing our laws. As history as so often shown us, that required accountability cannot be implemented successfully from within government, it must come from watchdog groups surrounding it, preferably a plethora of such groups.

Review for The Project On Government Oversight, Inc., Washington, DC, USA
POGO is by far the most effective non-profit organization in its arena, in addition to its arena being one of the most important and fundamental to the American spirit of democracy and government accountability. Without a well-organized group such as POGO, the government would be even more rampant with corruption than it is now and we should celebrate the largely unthanked efforts of individuals working within groups like POGO to stem the tide.
