Review for Pusong Pinoy (Heart of a Filipino), Chino Hills, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am wary in giving donations (here in the Philippines) primarily because I am not sure if my donation will reach its intended recepient/s. And to many of these fund raising organizations, I feel I am simply a 'donor." Pusong Pinoy changed this paradigm. Really. I have particiated in their activities/get togethers (where volunteers, donors and recipients meet and mingle) and every experience is truly inpsiring and amazing and feels like your part of a big family. Hearing first hand how these donations have touched the lives of so many makes me feel blessed to be part of Pusong Pinoy. Sometimes we think nothing of our book donations, for me, it was simply needing space for my daughters age appropriate books, so I donated her 'old' but still in very good conditon books to Pusong Pinoy. And the volunteers, are heroes indeed, why? Pusong Pinoy book donations doesnt end by merely donating books, the volunteers ensure that recipient public schools (mostly in remote areas) embrace sustainable reading programs, this way, the recipient partners (principal and/or teachers) have ownership of the program. We may never know their names or see their faces, but somewhere, there is a child with a smile on his/her face because he/she has learned to read and because of sustainable reading programs, will eventually love reading.
