Review for D & R Rescue Inc, Paris, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We lost our 12 1/2 year old rottweiler Chaz to cancer in June 2012. The loss to our family was devastating. We had Chaz from 5 weeks old so much love was put into his life and he gave us so much love in return. I could not fathom getting another 'child' (dog) for months. Then I found myself on Petfinder.com reading stories and looking at potential rescues... I was probably missing Chaz so much I told myself just looking would help me through my grief. I typed rottweiler into the breed search and was shocked at how many pages came up... 121 pages. I began to look at pictures & read stories and my heart broke for these poor dogs. I came across Ike and grew intrigued with him and his story. I told my wife I wanted to go look at this dog and she was shocked I would be even considering another after Chaz. I contacted Karen by e-mail & filled out an adoption application. Karen called our vet and received good reviews on us as owners. We drove four hours to go 'visit' Ike and were very impressed with him. His demeanor and manners were great. We stayed and talked with Karen about rottweilers and what we were going through with our grieving for Chaz. She was such a huge help and really made us feel like we were not alone. She knew where we were and how we felt. Ike wasn't ready for adoption yet, he still needed to gain a little weight and get neutered. We went home and really searched our souls and hearts about the decision we were going to make. I kept seeing Ike alone and scared on the streets in my mind and just wanted to help him as much as we could. Adoption was new to us and Karen made us feel very comfortable about it. On October 20th ... 4 months to the day we lost Chaz we adopted Ike and brought him home. The renewed energy & life has only helped us to move forward. Karen was very professional and truthful about the adoption. Even after Ike was home with us she continued to followup on his progress. Her knowledge and expertise with this breed really helped us to transition with our new 'child'. We know we can count on her with anything that may come up. Any questions or concerns. We love Ike. Driving out to pick him up was bittersweet ... we were going to rescue this guy but what really happened was he rescued us.
Thanks to Karen at D & R Rescue.
