D & R was great to work with from start to finish. Info was readily available and Karen was great. We now have a sweet new pup. Many of the rescues I had contacted previously were either way too picky or would not even return my phone calls.

D&R rescue is a great group of volunteers. They took in some small dogs from a hoarding case. I adopted one of the puppies. They were very responsive to inquiries and the whole process was great. They obviously care very much about animals and my Vet said my puppy was in great shape. I recommend them and hope good things come their way.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with D & R Rescue. I adopted my sweet pup Polly through them. Karen was very responsive to my adoption inquiry and made the experience very pleasant. It's clear that they care very much about the animals in their care and want the very best for them. When we did the meet-and-greet at PetSmart, both Karen and Polly's foster mom Mackenzee were there. They took time to answer all questions I had and even walked through the store with me to pick out things she would like and made recommendations. They were professional and friendly. I am so grateful to D & R Rescue and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for their fur-ever friend.

Karen was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was quick to respond and happy to answer all questions. We traveled quite a long way to pick up our dog, but Karen was very accommodating. We loved the "doggie goodie bag" filled with toys, treats, and other things to help get us started. I recently adopted my pup from here and I have nothing but great things to say about D & R Rescue Inc. I held communication with Karen throughout the process and she was amazing! I received quick responses and all of my questions were answered! The adoption process was very smooth, thanks to her! You could tell that they truly cared about the animals and made sure that they were going to a great home. Not only did I experience great service, I also received a doggy goodie bag filled with food, treats, toys, etc. My pup was also microchipped, spayed, nail trimmed, groomed, and came with a leash and collar. I recently adopted a female Corgi from D&R, and Karen White was great to deal with - she always had prompt communication and was very helpful throughout the process. We recently rescued a Cairn mix from a Humane Society in eastern Indiana. He lived with an elderly woman his entire 5 years and must have slept all day and night, awake only to go outside and to eat and didn't play with toys. We were searching all over the country for a female to keep him company. We found his twin in silver in a northern state but they wouldn't let us adopt her...only their state and one other. We found two more with similar restrictions, only 2 hours away, only 200 miles away. And of course we filed 4 other applications - one didn't even respond after requiring a $10 donation, 2 others waited to act on our application for 2 weeks until the dogs were adopted to someone else, and one said yes, and then decided since we didn't have a fence we were denied, we bought a fence and were "yes" again, then out of the blue she said she didn't feel "comfortable" letting us adopt and that was her final answer. We found Molly...what a face! Karen was a very pleasant, acted promptly and professionally on our application and approved us to adopt Molly the next day. She gave us the foster mom's number and we scheduled a meeting the next weekend. We all arrived about the same time and it was love at first sight. Molly and Mo got along very well from the start. It didn't take any time to fill out the paperwork and she was ours. What a great experience. The bag that had her vet records and our adoption papers and chip records also contained food, bowls, harness, leash, toys, kong, heartworm pill. What a generous surprise. Amy and Karen couldn't have been nicer. They asked for us to keep in touch and we did and sent pictures. Molly is teaching Mo how to play and Mo is teaching Molly how to take naps - a perfect match made in heaven -D&R Rescue heaven! Thank you so much.

My chihuahua mix of 9 years passed away from unexpected cancer in February 2019. After months of just having my black lab mix who noticeably missed having a small companion, we decided to adopt another dog. We did research and a lot of searching to find a smaller companion with chihuahua in him to mesh well with our lab mix. We found Tag (now Gus) when he was 11 weeks old on petfinder.com for D&R Rescue! It was love at first sight for us and even more so when our lab met him. We have only had Gus for about 10 days and he's amazing. You can tell he has been fostered with his quick ability to catch on to commands with treat rewards. He came with a collar, leash, harness, a bag of puppy food, and toys/treats! This whole experience was awesome and I highly recommend this rescue!

Karen White at D&R Rescue is truly exceptional! We found a lovely little girl to be a companion for our other young rescue. Not only did Karen fully vet us to make sure that we would be a good fit, she offered to bring our new baby to Indianapolis as she was already transporting other animals thus saving me a lengthy drive (although I was more than prepared to make the trip!). Our little lady is healthy and loving - she fit in immediately. Not only did we receive a wonderful dog, Karen provided us with a huge goodie bag filled with treats, toys, collar and leash, shampoo, flea and tick treatment and a bed!

Found the perfect dog for us on adoptapet.com through D & R Rescue. Karen was very responsive communicating with us during the process. We adopted an almost 8 month old female Shih Tzu/Maltese. When we met with Karen to pick her up Karen was very friendly, patient and informative about the adoption. We drove nearly 6 hours to adopt from D & R Rescue and would do it again in a heartbeat!

We lost both of our dogs within the past year and after only a few days without a dog the loneliness and sadness of not having a dog in the house was too much. So I got on Petfinder.com to find a dog. After an extensive search I found the profile of a dog that sounded perfect for us. I sent a message to request more information about the dog. In less than 12 hours Karen White replied to my questions and sent an application when I asked. Karen was so prompt communicating with us, answering questions and coordinating a meeting. The attention Karen gave to us was truly an unexpected surprise. Less than 48 hours from my initial request for information we met Karen and the dog we wanted to adopt. And we adopted that dog, the sweetest dog, Lucy. A new collar and leash were provided by the D & R Rescue, as well as some toys, treats, and poop bags. We didn't expect that. Lucy is already fitting in with our family, almost as if she's been here with us all along. What I love about this particular rescue organization, besides the excellent communication and coordination, is that the dog we got was in a foster home and they could tell us so much about the dog. Over 12 years ago, my husband and I contacted Karen White regarding adopting a puppy. Karen was so kind and so helpful in finding the right match for our home. We brought home our Sachi. A year or so later, I contacted Karen again and we adopted Sibahn. Both dogs had been properly vetted and had received wonderful care in foster homes until Karen found their forever home. D&R Rescue provides the best option for dogs who need to be re-homed. Proper research is done to insure the dog is going to the right home with the right provision for that dog's needs. Behavior evaluation as well as health evaluation are completed thoroughly to ensure the needs of both the dog and the adopting home are a good match. This can require difficult decisions, especially when dealing with larger breeds such as dobermen and rottweilers. D&R Rescue is a stellar example of how a rescue operation should be run.

We stumbled upon this rescue site a few days after our our sweet Lucy (Mastiff/Dane) had to be put down. We found Major, who is a Boxer/Mastiff mix and knew right away that this was the little guy we needed. Major was only 6 weeks old and his momma had been hit by a car. We filled out the application right away and was accepted to be his forever home. We picked him up yesterday and he has adjusted so well in such a short time. His name is now Kevin and he loves to play with our Great Dane. The process was very smooth and they are very thorough in selecting homes for their dogs. Thank you so much!

My friend passed in July 2017, her name was Tigger and she was a Toy Poodle 18 years old. I told myself I would not have a dog again I didn't want to go thru that pain again, during the past year there was a emptiness in the house it was not the same. I decided to get another dog and it was going to be a rescue I needed the dog as much as it needed me. I searched the internet and found an 8 year old toy poodle she had everything I was looking for, I couldn't have found a better dog but what made me laugh the dog was at Doberman Pinscher and Rottweiler Rescue Inc. I E-mail them telling them I was interested in adopting the Toy Poodle, her name is Mitzi. I was sent an application. I immediately filled it out and sent it back. I was e-mailed back a couple days later and I was advised by Karen from the rescue that I had passed the application process and that I can come down to meet Mitzi and see if we were compatible. I was very excited to hear that, I live in Roselle Il and Mitzi would be at Petsmart in Terre Haute In, which is a little over 200 miles away. I was happy to go hoping Mitzi and I got along. I met Karen and Mitzi, Mitzi and I got along. I wanted to take Mitzi home Karen was so happy that Mitzi was being adopted, what was neat was Karens enthusiasm she cares for all the dogs in her care, she wants homes for all her dogs at the rescue. I completed my paperwork Karen advised me everything she knew about Mitzi I was given all her vet paperwork she had all her vacinations and her teeth were cleaned a couple days earlier. Karen told me if I had any questions to contact her, in my opinion Doberman Pinscher and Rottweiler Rescue Inc. is very enthusiastic and compassionate about dogs in their care. I give them an A+. Oh I haven't forgotten Mitzi and I are doing great she puts the warmness back into my house.

I am very proud to be associated with the Doberman Rottweiler Rescue INC (D&R Rescue) located in Parris Illinois. I have known Karen White the director of the organization for almost twenty-five years. This is my story.

Early in the year 1994, my soon to be husband received our first rescue from D&R Rescue a wonderful male Rottweiler by the name of Barney. Barney was named after the giant purple dinosaur, his children saw on TV. Barney the Rottweiler wasn’t purple nor was he a TV star; but he was just as kind and gentle as his namesake on TV. At that time of Barney’s rescue, I had a Pekinese by the name of Kujo; she was a feisty little thing who tried very hard to live up to her name.

One day my husband and I, along with the two dogs, were walking through Bloomington, Indiana when it began to rain. Now, Kujo hated getting wet; she would shake and shiver, her whole body would quiver. Barney sensing her discomfort, moved into position behind her. It was quite a sight. The large burly Rottweiler sitting regally with his front paws spread apart. The little Pekinese snuggling in between the massive paw all nice and dry. The passers by looked at my husband and I very strangely, as we just laughed and laughed. They did not get the joke; here was Kujo, the savage beast cuddled up under the protecting wings of Barney the purple dinosaur.

Barney passed away the day after we were married from lymphoma. In May 1994, Barney received the Good Dog Carl Award, from the American Rottweiler Club. My husband and I went on to adopt four more Rottweilers all from D&R Rescue.

Karen is a pleasure to work with, she truly cares about the animals and doing what is best for them. She will listen to your needs and take the time to get the perfect dog for your family.

Karen was great with assisting us during the adoption process. We found a puppy on Petfinder and got in reach with the shelter that worked alongside the foster home where the puppy was staying. She provided all the infirmation and was great at communicating when we had questions. The process was seamless and the puppy came with toys, food, all up to date shots, neutered, and even a leash. I would reccomend the D&R rescue to anyone looking to adopt!

After losing my childhood dog/best-friend last year it was time to make a new friend so I began my search. After some trial error I came across D & R Rescue who provided me that opportunity. After making my inquiry almost immediately I received a response and a line of communication was established and openly continued through the adoption process and even after. All of which was key considering I would have to make the trip from Indianapolis. Needless to say expectations were exceeded and for someone who was a first time adopter that was very much appreciated. Needless to say service was no less than stellar.

We just adopted "Lucy" from D & R Rescue. Karen was great- she answered all my questions and was always prompt with a reply. They set us up with all of the pup's information and directions for the next steps with the vet. They provide food, toys, and a lifetime microchip registration. Thanks D & R and Karen! We love our new puppy!

We were looking at a dog to adopt through D & R. I filled out an application that evening and much to my surprise I heard back the next day that we had been checked out and approved. We were able to connect a day or two later and get our new family member. I was so impressed with how quickly she worked to help with this process. That is truly how things should work when there are so many dogs waiting for a family. Truly a great organization!

Through All Paws, we found Peggy Sue at D& R All Breed Rescue. We had lost our 13-year-old Boston Terrier six months earlier, and now were ready to share our lives with another Boston, preferably an adult dog. Peggy Sue's description prompted me to call Karen who gave me excellent "vibes" plus good information. After I submitted our adoption application and was approved, we went to meet our new family member. What a positive experience! This adoption exceeded all expectations and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The 650-mile round trip between southeast Missouri and the PetSmart in Terre Haute, IN turned out to be the most beneficial of journeys. I went to meet Karen on Sunday to meet a potential pup. She was great. As I was there I found myself not so sure that I was ready to adopt as I just lost my pup in December. Not sure if she felt that too but she reassured me that just because I came didn’t mean I had to take the pup and not to feel guilty about that. I sure did feel guilt. She further explained that I would know when I was ready and I would know when the right pup came along. Karen is wonderful. We recently adopted our puppy from D & R Rescue and Karen. Karen was great to work with. She promptly answered all emails and most helpful to us, worked with our schedule to pick up our new puppy. Who, by the way, is amazing! It was obvious our puppy had been well cared for. She was clean, crate trained, and 99% house trained. She gets along well with our other dog and is truly a joy to have in our family. I can't thank Karen enough for working with us and for the work she does taking care of rescues in need of a forever home.

I recently adopted a puppy from the R&D Rescue and was provided with every accommodation imaginable. Karen always replied very quickly to emails and even sent pictures of our growing puppy while we waited for him to be ready for adoption. On the day of adoption, I took part in a one-on-one training session at PetSmart, which was great for first-time puppy adopters. I also received a puppy 'starter kit' with several of the essential needed for bringing home a new dog. Karen provided great recommendations for crate sizes, food brands, and pet supplies. Our puppy was also up-to-date on shots, neutered and micro-chipped on the day of adoption. All of these services were included in the adoption price! 

I adopted a puppy from D & R Rescue on 12-5-17 and met with Karen at Terre Haute IN. I was very pleased with how well organized she was with the paperwork. It didn't take very long at all to over the papers and get them filled out. Karen had made it to petsmart before My daughter and I did and she was shopping for clothes for our new puppy along with dog food and treats. All the items she purchased she gave to us for free! Thank you Karen, I love my puppy.

We just adopted Toby, a Boxer Lab mix from D&R this weekend. Karen was wonderful to work with throughout the process, from initial contact to application to preps and finally the pick up. She was a wealth of information and was a great mix of personable and professional. She had all medical records and microchip records and various pointers (both personally and thru PetSmart trainer she connected us with) for new dog owners like myself. The PetSmart pick up added value to the process as well and she had good relationships with the trainer and other personnel. Adoption packet was a great help as well. I found my best friend listed on Adopt-A-Pet.com and contacted Karen at Doberman and Rotweiller Rescue, Inc. right away. Peaches is a female Boxador (Boxer/Lab) mix who came from a litter of at least 4 other puppies from a 15 year-old lab who died 2 weeks after giving birth. I can't even fathom what the foster parents of these puppies went through to bottle feed and nurture these pups to the 8 week adoption age, but I am forever in their debt for the opportunity to continue their effort and raise this sweetheart to enjoy the rest of her (or my) life!
It is a wonderful testament to Karen's D & R Rescue that apparently they not only rescue only those breeds but whatever breed is in need!!!
Karen met me at a PetSmart in southern Indiana at the appointed time and had Peaches and 2 of her littermates with her for other adoptees. They evidently have a wonderful relationship with PetSmart because I had a fantastic orientation with a trainer for the care and house-breaking of my new friend. I've had 2 other puppies in my life and 4 other shelter dogs and never had this much attention to the actual care of the dog.
Karen and her cause are the epitome of what rescue is! I highly recommend marking her on your social pages for both professional, but more importantly, caring service to our four-legged friends!!!

We adopted our dog from D&R Rescue via Petfinder and Karen was wonderful to work with every step of the way, answering all of our questions as we prepared for adopting Stanley while being several hours away. When we picked Stanley up, Karen had all of his medical records, as well as the information for transferring his microchip. I always go thru petfinder site hoping to one day to find a sheltie mix pup. I would never pay what they ask for a purebreed. I always go thru a rescue. There on D&R rescue inc one evening was the cutest sheltie up for adoption. When i contacted the rescue online i got a response right away. Filled out application and in no time I was picking up my little baby. I have rescued over 6 dogs from various rescues and this was the first time she had no worms of one kind or another. The vet said she is sure she is a purebred tri colored sheltie. She fits right in with my 3 other dogs, i cant imagine our life without her. Thank you so much for making this such an easy transition. We named Mary, Gypsy Rose. She has grown from 3.8 pounds to 6 pounds already.

About a month ago we were looking for a new Sheltie puppy as our 15 yrs old Sheltie had cancer and we knew our time was running short with him. By pure chance I stumbled upon a rescue through a Google search for D&R Rescue. They had a litter of 4 Sheltie puppies that had been surrendered. I immediately contacted them about adopted our boy Loki. The response was extremely fast. They sent over their application and explained their process. I immediately returned it and within 12 hrs had received an email stating we were approved to adopt Loki. We live about 3 hours away but by pure chance we were able to pick up our boy the same weekend we were travelling to Indianapolis. The owner was extremely accommodating setting up a time that would work and save us an extra 3 he drive since we were in the area. Upon picking up our boy he came with everything needed for a puppies first couple weeks. This rescue was not just accommodating they also really seemed very knowledgeable and truly seemed to care for the animals in their care. We had been looking for a Maltese mix for over two months on the internet. My husband refused to drive more than 100 miles to get a dog, so I just kept looking.
Finally, I actually saw one in my own town of Paris, IL!! I called Karen White immediately, but the dog had already been taken out on approval. Shucks!
I let Karen know what I wanted and left it at that. Within two weeks, I got an e-mail from Karen letting me know that she had a dog she thought would be right for me.
When we were finally able to get together, we fell in love right away! She gave us lots of tips about taking in an abused pet, gave us food and equipment.

We discovered D & R Rescue through Petfinder. My boyfriend and I didn’t have any dogs and had been searching for one for weeks. Because we wanted to be sure we were getting a good dog for our lifestyle, we were probably a bit difficult to deal with. But Karen was very understanding and accommodating. We ended up running late to meet her and when we called to tell her she assured us that that would be okay and that we’d still get a chance to look at the dogs we were interested in adopting. When we arrived she allowed us to play with all the pups we were considering to help us feel confident about our choice. When we chose, she ran through all her paperwork with us and we were happy to discover that she had already been spade, chipped, and received her first round of puppy shots. Karen also provided us with dog food and a ton of new toys for Coraline to play with. It was amazing how much we were getting for the price of $180! I’m so happy we chose D & R!!

Karen is very easy to work with and you can tell she truly loves the dogs in her care. We were overwhelmed by everything that we were given to get us off to a great start with our new baby.

In May 2017 I was searching for a German Shepherd on PetFinder and was very excited to find a Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix with D & R. Since the day that Karen gave me Jimmy, he has been the perfect pup! Not only did he come microchipped, neutered, with his puppy shots, and with a wide array of goodies, he had clearly been extremely well cared for and loved in his foster home. As a rescue dog (granted he is a puppy), he had NO behavioral issues related to lack of training or mistreatment. He was extremely well socialized and loves everyone in sight. Karen's care for Jimmy did not stop at adoption, but she continues to check up on the little guy. Just a wonderful experience, and I continue to appreciate Karen and the D & R rescue on a daily basis!

My husband and I had been searching PetFinder for the newest member of our family for some time. We both love the personality and temperament of cocker spaniels, but my husband was hoping to find a dog that was a bit larger and smarter. Then we found Layla (a flat coated retriever/spaniel mix)! She was being fostered by D&R rescue and seemed like the perfect fit! Karen from D&R responded to our application very quickly and made arrangements to continue Layla's foster care until we were able to drive from Indianapolis to meet her. In the interim, Karen answered all of our questions about Layla and kept us up to date on her vet care.
When we met Layla, we knew within seconds that she was the dog we were looking for. She is possibly the sweetest dog I have ever met. Everything that Karen had told us was accurate. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the wonderful care package the rescue had made for her. It even included toys made by hand. It was clear that little Layla was well cared for. I am very thankful to Karen and D&R rescue. Working with them was a positive experience and I highly recommend them.

We adopted our 8 week old German Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix from D & R rescue in May 2017.
We found our puppy on petfinder. They were quick to respond to emails and great to work with. They helped place our little guy as soon as our application had been approved.
Our puppy, Roscoe, came neutered and with his first set of puppy shots. He was also microchipped. He was very clean and obviously well loved.
The whole process was very quick and painless. They also stated they would take him back within 14 days for a full refund as well as take him back at any point in his life. While we won't need to bring him back, it is obvious they really care about their animals.
The adoption fee was very affordable.

Our family has never had a pet before. I have 5 boys ranging in age from 12-22 and they have always asked for a dog. When I had the 5 of them under the age of 10, I couldn't fathom having a pet to take care of. Now that the older three are in college and on their own (now with their own pets by the way!) the younger two boys said they were ready. We did a lot of research and knew that we wanted a rescue puppy. It just so happened the day we found D&R online they had 3 adorable puppies. We were sure that one of them would be perfect to join our family. "Charlotte" was a beagle/Australian cattle dog mix and just adorable. They were still too young to join our home, but we were willing to wait a couple of weeks. D&R was great at communicating the process (since we were first time pet owners) and explained everything in detail. When we picked her up, she had all her shots, was already spayed, came with a bag of food, collar/leash, toys, microchipped (for life!) and tons of information. The boys fell in love with her the minute they saw her. We have enjoyed adding her to our family. I was looking for a puppy and I knew I wanted to adopt. I looked through adoptapet.com. and I found Francine at D and R Rescue Inc. It was my first time adopting and Karen was so helpful through the whole thing. She answered any questions, very prompt, and kept me informed. If anyone is looking for a new pet, I would definitely recommend going through D and R Rescue Inc!

Our family recently adopted Ali, an english pointer. When I searched on pet finder I saw a picture of Ali read she was young and filled out the paper work right away. After being accepted to adopt Ali I made arrangements with Karen to meet. Karen couldn't have been nicer. I was blown away by all the food, treats, information on dog care, and toys. When I meet Ali she was only 13 weeks old but I could tell she was already attached to Karen, which speaks to the care she gave Ali under her care.
Ali is smart and easily trainable, house training has been very easy, she wants to relieve herself outside! Karen knows what she is doing, adopting Ali was a great experience.

What can I say but I love Karen she has allowed me to adopt 4 dogs now and everyone of them have been a blessing to my home. Karen is very careful and really cares to find good quality lifetime homes for her dogs. I always keep her up to date with pictures of my fur babies so she knows they are doing well and happy. My dogs are my children and I am so blessed to know Karen and so grateful to her for allowing me to adopt Abigail, Max, Skip and now Kit E. I can not thank her enough.

It was our first time adopting and we had a really good experience. Karen was very nice and answered all our questions right away. Since we had to wait for about a month because the puppy was still very young she sent us pictures so we could see her. We adopted a wonderful, healthy and happy beagle puppy (Lucy). Working with D&R has been wonderful. We adopted Gemma a little over two weeks ago and she is a wonderful fit with our family. Karen was very helpful with details working up to the adoption and has staying in contact with us afterwards. Gem came fully vetted, microchipped, spayed, and in great health as confirmed by our own veterinarian. She also came with a large bag of treats and toys along with a lot of good information especially if someone were a first time dog owner. We love her to pieces and are so glad we found her and D&R.

My girlfriend and I had been looking around for a dog for a while when we met Rey. She melted our hearts when we first met her and has made our lives so much better since. We couldn't imagine life without her now because of all the joy she brings us.

We recently adopted a miniature dachshund from D&R. Karen was extremely reaponsive on every interaction and made the process happen very quickly. Because we have a current dog we wanted to ensure that they would get along and could not have asked for a dog with a better temperament. We were driving from Chicago so Karen was very helpful prior to the trip in making us feel comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of information, food, toys, etc which made the transition much simpler. True to everything we were told, Willy has been an extremely well behaved true joy to be around who has fit in perfectly and we could not be happier. I absolutely would recommend them as it's obvious they care deeply and are knowledgeable in helping these rescues and placing them where it makes sense for both the families and dogs. Thank you!!!

We got a blue heeler mix and were amazed at how great of a dog she is. Her temperament is just as they said. They were quick to respond to all of my emails and went above and beyond with their answers as well as provision of supplies for the new pup. Everything she said was accurate, and we received an incredible dog

The people involved with this rescue really know what they're doing! It all started with the description of the dog on Petfinder. A brief detailed story and pictures of "Henry" is what caught my eye and got the ball rolling. Contact options were listed and I used each one! I called Karen, the vet tech at the vet clinic this rescue is based out of, and we conducted a phone "interview", I was trying to make sure Henry was the right dog and Karen was trying to make sure I was the right owner. It was extremely important to me that I had as much info as possible since he would be joining my household that includes other pets. This rescue offers a 2 week trial period to make sure the adoption actually works for the dog, the new owners, and the new owners' current pets. This is a "logical miracle". We arranged a meeting halfway between the 3 hour drive from my house to the rescue. Again, a very thoughtful offer.
We all met. My husband and I fell in love with Henry over the time it took to sign the paperwork and go over everything in the "goodie bag". A collar, medical records, tags, food toys, treats, coupons,...what a bonus! Needless to say, I ended up getting the "job" and so did Henry! I can't thank the people involved with this rescue enough!

In June we had to put to rest our loving Dachshund of 17 years. It was heartbreaking and as we are now retired, we thought we would never have another. But after a couple months, with no one greeting us when we came home and just the silence at home and not having her around was too much. We decided with so many rescues there had to be one for us. So we started looking on line. Being Dachshund people we began looking for another Dachshund first. After a few weeks we spotted one on Petfinders that led us to Karen at D & R Rescue. The one we asked about was already adopted, but they did happen to have another Dachshund that had just come in. This one was even more appealing so we sent in the adoption paperwork right away. Throughout about a week of correspondence with Karen, though they are located in Illinois, and we in Indiana, we were able to met our possible new addition very near to where we live as they happened to have a foster mom in our area. We arranged a meeting, and upon first sight with the new dog we were hooked. She had been taken from previous owners for mistreatment. D & R Rescue took her in and completely checked and treated her medically, spayed, tagged, etc.
Throughout the whole process all went very smoothly. Karen and her Foster Mom friend were fully communicative throughout. We feel very lucky that we found our new adoptee from D & R Rescue. If your looking to adopt and are in the Illinois/Indiana area, please look them up.

Who knew we'd find our newest member of the family at D&R Rescue! Thanks to our friends we were visiting and her continues search for us...she came across a small dog that was perfect for us. Thanks to D&R for expiditing the adoption process as we were about to return home. "Buddy" is everything and more. Thank you D&R rescue!

In August, we lost our Teacup Yorkie to cancer. She was the "baby" of our family and we were devastated when we were told of her illness. We hesitated to even think about giving our heart to another dog. After all, she was our BABY and had been for 6 years. Katie was a rescue that was left to die in a chicken wire fence no bigger than a 3x3 space directly in the sun with absolutely no shade. My daughter had adopted her half sister and told us about this terrible place that had lots of Yorkie's that desperately needed taken out of there. So, that's how we got Katie.
After a few weeks, of trying to mend our hearts from her loss, my daughter, God love her heart, showed us a picture and the story of Sadie. This little darling was a resident of D&R Rescue and may I say not by choice. My daughter contacted Karen and got all the details of Sadie's life at D&R and how she arrived there. Arrangements were made for us to meet her. What a day it was, the beginning of a love affair with this BEAUTIFUL loving Yorkie. She is just the center of our world now.
Sadie was microchipped, spayed, dental, bathed, groomed and up dated on all of her vaccinations and anything else Karen saw that she needed. Before we left to take Sadie home, we were handed a bag of food, a goody bag and of course important information about her. It didn't take long for us to know that Sadie belonged with us. D&R is a non-profit organization that gives love to the pets and makes sure they have exactly what they need while they are waiting for a forever home. Kuddos to all of you at D&R. God bless you.

I adopted a 9 week old puppy from D & R Rescue at the Westfield Petsmart. I had my puppy right away along with many helpful tips and a bag full of supplies. The fee was very reasonable and my puppy was healthy and friendly. Two months later, everything is going well.

On Halloween 2015 we lost our beloved Sammie. Sammie was my husband and my second dog. Her loss broke our hearts and we said no more pets..BUT...as days went by we continued to mourn her loss, but after awhile, we realized that something was missing in our lives. Slowly we started to watch the newspaper and got on line and looked at dog rescue sites not just in Indiana, but in states around us. We debated on what breed of dog we might like to have, but never really made a firm decision on that, but were kind of leaning toward a medium size dog. Well one night for some reason I came across D & R Rescue. Now needless to say I had no intention of adopting a Doberman or Rottweiler, but I looked anyway and there she was ...our Lily! She jumped right off of the screen and into my heart. I couldn't believe it...I had looked at hundreds of dogs at many, many sights, but I knew immediately that Lily was supposed to be my dog. I shot off the form to D and R and I got a response right away with the adoption form which we filled out and returned. The next day Karen and I emailed back and forth, both of us asking and answering questions. Finally when all of our paperwork checked out we made arrangements to meet and get our new baby. Karen went out of her way to meet us and bring our Lily. Lily is so beautiful and was very well cared for by her foster mom. She has been spayed, micro-chipped, had her first puppy shots, bathed and had a flea treatment. We have been blessed to have found Lily, and we are grateful to D and R Rescue for the excellent treatment and loving care which they give to each and every animal that they rescue. If you are looking to adopt a pet my husband and I would highly recommend D and R Rescue.

We recently adopted an adorable puppy with the help of D & R Rescue. They went way over and above to help match us with our new puppy. We were going out of the country on vacation and Karen worked with us to make the timing work. We love our little Patsy and can't possibly thank you all enough for bringing us together. I contacted D&R Rescue about a cute little dog I found on petfinder. His name is Doogie so i contacted Karen to see if it would be a good fit. She responded quickly to the many questions I had and helped me with everything. Doogie came to us with all shots and a microchip. He came with his own bag of toys and food. It was so nice to have so many expenses covered by these people who care so much. Doogie loves his new home and his new people. We appreciate everything Karen did to help us get the this moment!

We found our sweet Millie (then Cora) on Petfinder. We were very interested in adopting her, but live 5 hours away. She was already scheduled for an adoption event, so Karen had her friend adopt her for us and foster her for the week. She really went above and beyond for us. We can tell that she truly has the dogs' best interest at heart and is invested in helping the animals who cannot help themselves. It was such a smooth experience for us, and we would recommend this rescue to anyone.

My wife and I routinely viewed Petfinder in the hopes of finding a dog to replace our Maltese, Zoie, who had passed several months earlier. When we saw the picture of "Andy" in the D & R Rescue listing we decided to submit an application with the association. After several back and forth communications Karen informed us our adoption of "Andy" had been approved. Arrangements were made for us to travel to Terre Haute, IN, from our residence in Mid-Missouri. Karen was kind enough to meet with us on a day that suited us but not her. Upon our arrival Karen had already purchased a number of items for our new family member and prepared all the necessary paperwork. Thanks to Karen we were about to do everything necessary and return home at a decent hour.

I first contacted this organization after seeing one of their dogs on Petfinder. Karen responded to me very quickly but, unfortunately, because I live 4 hours away, I was unable to see the dog before it was adopted. When another small dog became available, Karen contacted me and let me know when I could come and see him. Let me back up a bit... she had me submit an application after I showed interest in the first dog. I was pleased with the detail the organization required from me - it showed they truly had the dog's well being at heart. After reviewing my application, she approved me within 24 hours. When we met in person, she spent sufficient time with me going over all of the paperwork and telling me everything she knew about the dog. I was extremely happy and grateful that they had made sure that the dog was neutered, checked over by the vet, vaccinated and groomed. She also supplied me with a leash, collar, toys, food and treats. This dog has been the sweetest, most well-behaved pet I have ever had and I love him to pieces! Even though this organization is 4 hours away from where I live, I would never hesitate to go to them again or recommend them. Karen has also followed up with me several times since I adopted Jack to see how things were going. I recommend D&R Rescue completely!

After losing my companion Samson when he was 15, I waited a few weeks, then plugged a search for small terriers into Adoptapet. A few days later came an email with a photo of a lovely mini Schnauzer called Auggie, who was being fostered by D&R Rescue. After some preliminary emails, I put in my application, and gratefully received word a few hours later that Auggie was mine. The next week brought clear and direct communication from Karen. I found out more about Auggie's back story, and when the time came to meet him, she helped me through paperwork and details. Bottom line: D&R saved this sweet dog, and without them, I would not now be enjoying the delight that he brings. The fact that they are also interested in him AFTER his adoption, and want to celebrate his new home, tells me a great deal about their high quality.

We recently adopted from this organization, and I could not have had a smoother transition. I dealt with Karen, she was fast at responding to my request, quickly got my application approved, and made time out of her day to meet me so I could pick up Ozzy. Even after I adopted him she was only an email away to answer all me questions about anything and everything. If I ever plan to adopt again, I will look at D & R Rescue first!

I was looking for a very specific type of dog since my older dog (a female jack russel) is very dog reactive. I saw a hound mix puppy on petfinder posted by D and R Rescue. The puppy was no longer available, but Karen found another male puppy that fit my requirements. I wasn't able to pick up Charlie until about 2 weeks after he and his littermates were ready to go, but Karen worked with my schedule and now I have 2 very happy and healthy dogs. It was a couple days before I felt comfortable leaving my terrier and the new puppy alone, but now they're inseparable.

I've recently adopted a little munchkin dog from Karen. He was being fostered close to my home near Indianapolis, so I never met Karen, but I can tell by the questions and interactions I had with her foster aide - Billie Jo - that they cared first about making sure he got into a loving, forever home. Then I was given all the medical they did for him - vaccines, neuter, hrtw test, worming, microchipping, plus care and resource information - in a nice file, and some food and treats to take home. They obviously wanted to get him off to a good start in case I forgot anything. And their adoption fee was not exorbitant -- many rescues would have charged a lot more for this cute, little guy. I have no hesitation giving Karen and her rescue group 5 stars, and I appreciate their dedication to their adoptees. They will never get this little guy back, but it's good to know that they are willing to take him if anything happens to me.

We had a great adoption process! We were given all the needed information about the dog and were offered a two week trial. After the two weeks if it wasn't working out we could return her for a full refund. We love her and couldn't handle the thought of giving her back. She is a great dog and love the fact that she came to us with everything we needed. She was up to date with all her shots. The process was great and easy.

Best dog I've EVER had and likely one of the best rescue outfits anywhere. Exhausted every rescue/shelter and breeder from Ontario, Canada all the way to Kentucky and Illinois, needing a hypoallergenic dog to replace our other dog's lost companion. Inquired about "Teddy" (now renamed Olaf) and was impressed with the screening process Karen put us through ... it spoke volumes about the care she had for Olaf and all the dogs in her care. Karen went out of her way to bring this little neglected puppy to us. After being rescued from a horrible background and not even recognizable as a dog really, Karen nurtured this young dog and provided all the love and medical attention he needed, including shots, grooming, toys, leash and collar... even treats. We expected to have to do alot of work with him, but she had already done most of it. He is the sweetest, gentlest, friendliest, fun-loving little dog ever and he fit instantly into our family's hearts. Thank you, Karen, for your care, support and labors of love in bringing Olaf into our lives! He is a gem, thanks in large part to the nurturing you provided while he was in your care.

As we all know, losing a pet can be very difficult, especially when you're a senior like myself. After losing my pet dog to a serious illness 5 months ago, I thought I could call it quits with having dogs at my age. The plans to give up having a dog in my life again just shattered my heart, and soon I realized I couldn't let that happen.

After changing my mind I became serious about bringing a new dog into my life, but I had no idea where to begin looking for that perfect dog just for me. My first visit was on the internet at Adopt A Pet. In about 15 minutes of randomly looking at all the dogs, I found a picture of the sweetest looking little Rat Terrier named Tipper being cared for by D&R Rescue. Right away I contacted Karen to explain my needs for finding the perfect match for me. She was so understanding and gave me information about Tipper that helped me so much. I stopped thinking about being a senior and just get on with life with a brand new little friend who needed a home as much as I needed him.

After the application for adoption was approved, Karen made the meeting time speedy and painless. Not only was Tipper the perfect match for me, he was more wonderful than I could have imagined. Additionally, Karen had already had him current with shots, grooming, teeth cleaning, and even micro chipped with a lifetime enrollment with Home Again. We went home with toys, collar, leash and a packet of great information on how to best take care of Tipper. I was very impressed with Karen's dedication and hard work. She made my senior blues go away, and brought happiness into not only my life, but Tipper's life too. I'm forever grateful for having this experience. Tipper actually makes me feel young again. I would most defiantly recommend D&R Rescue. You won't be sorry you did!!!

After losing my longtime miniature schnauzer I decided to try to find a rescue dog to adopt. I didn't have much hope that I would find a miniature schnauzer at a shelter but D & R Rescue came through with exactly what turned out to be a perfect pet for me. She's a lap dog but likes to take walks. And I need the exercise.

Her name is Lucy and she's 2 years old and the most loving and well behaved dog...I think she's perfect. D & R had taken care of all shots, micro chipped, spayed, etc. and Lucy even came with collar, leash, food and even toys! Karen at D & R was most helpful about arrangements for meeting and then picking up Lucy. I give D & R my highest recomendation!

We lost our beloved rescue dog in February of this year after 10 amazing years and thought we may never get another dog. In June, I started looking on Petfinder and fell in love with a dog being fostered through D & R Rescue in Paris, IL. I left for our family vacation and carried her photo with me the entire time. Karen was so easy to work with, has a huge heart and is a dedicated resource for helping animals find their forever homes. I drove from Iowa to Indiana to pick her up. I knew she was the right choice the moment I saw her at the local Petsmart store. She has now been part of our family for a week and she fits right in. She is the sweetest dog ever! If you are interested in adopting a pet, please consider adopting from this rescue organization. They will go the extra mile to make sure you find the right pet!

I had been combing the internet for a new puppy after I tragically lost my 12 year old beagle. I found the new members of my family at D and R Rescue. I filled out the application and was soon told I could have the spaniel/border collie mix pups I asked for as soon as the vet deemed them old enough to be neutered. It was hard to wait, but I appreciate the caution taken with the dogs. Karen kept me updated with current pictures which made it a little easier. Finally the big day came. Karen walked me through the paperwork and answered all my questions. I could not be more pleased with my new family members. The puppies are healthy, well groomed, and happy. It is plain to see that they have been well cared for. They came with vet records of their shots, puppy exam, and neutering. I was supplied with needed items for a new puppy owner. I recommend D & R Rescue if you are looking to adopt.

We have adopted 2 Pomeranian dogs from D&R (Karen). The most recent as of June 2015, a small female Pom named Kitty. It is nice to know that the person involved is sincere and loves what she does and that is Karen. Both dogs were perfect, clean and well groomed when we adopted them. I would absolutely deal with D&R and Karen again but we are at our limit of dogs. It was a wonderful experience and the dogs wonderful. The dogs also came with a lot of info and coupons to help get started with your new pup.

We were looking to add a fur friend to our family. I started with the Humane Society but decided that I needed to branch out. I found a couple dogs with D&R Rescue on pet finder and sent in an inquiry. The dogs I had asked about actually didn't meet the criteria we had for our new addition (we needed one that would be 20-40 lbs as an adult as we have small kids.) Karen recommended another dog in their rescue that she felt would be a better fit. That's how we met Stella. She is a bundle of joy and really good around our kids. We're thankful for Karen's thoughts and suggestions and are really please with our new family member. We went home with a new friend, food, toys, leash and lots of love. A great experience.

I had been looking for a schnauzer puppy on Petfinder for over a month when I came across a schnauzer/beagle mix who was being fostered with D&R Rescue. Karen answered my email quickly and got the application process moving right away. When we picked up our puppy, she walked me through all of the paperwork and the steps we'd need to take once we got the puppy home. I was so relieved, because I'm a first-time puppy parent and was a bit nervous. We also got a puppy starter kit for PetSmart, so we got a free bag of food, coupons, and a discount on puppy training classes! We LOVE our little pup, and definitely recommend adopting through D&R Rescue!!

We had been looking for a family dog for over year, and happened to see a picture a very, very cute Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever puppy on Petfinder. With what can only be described as a wing and prayer, we filled out the application, completed the background check, and were rewarded with what has already become my first grader's very best friend.

Our Elsa (who is only appx 10 weeks old) already has bonded with our other pets (4 cats and an elderly dog), has demonstrated a gentleness so characteristic of the Golden and a protectiveness that I adore about the Pyrenees. She is quite clever and already understands Sit, Come, and is mostly housebroken (when there is an accident that is my fault for not reading her cues better).

D & R provided us with microchip information, vet records, and even a few goodies to help our little girl get situated with us. Additionally, they were very thorough in the background check which I quite like as if I were looking to place a puppy, I would want to ensure it was placed in the most loving of environments. Furthermore, they asked and even followed up to ensure all was going well and clearly truly care about the interest of the pet.

We are not ones to take adoption lightly and know we are adding a lifelong family member to our home that will bring us laughter, endless antics, and yes the occasional spill. Knowing our puppy came from such a caring organization makes us all the more pleased with our addition.

WOW! This place is amazing! After being disappointed by lack of responses from numerous other shelters/ non profits, we were skeptical about applying to others. Well, D&R had 2 adorable pups listed so we applied again. Within 24 hours, Karen replied back , conducted all references and background/ vet checks and had us approved! Our puppy came home groomed, spayed, first round of shots, materials for crate training, pet insurance for 30 days, food, treats, leash and toys & more! WOW WOW WOW!! I have been telling everyone who stops to meet us on our walks where we adopted our pup! Karen and her crew are amazing people and work really hard to find homes for these animals.

My daughter was searching for a dog for herself and came across this group and a dog she thought sounded perfect for us (her parents). She send us the link and we looked at it and thought yeah that sounds like a sweet dog. The group was very clear on the description of this dog and seem to be thoughtful about making sure it was going to go to a good home. They did indeed check our references and our veterinarian history

I had been searching for a dog for our family for several months. I found our perfect match on Pet Finders and he was being fostered by D & R. I contacted Karen via e-mail and she quickly responded to my questions. What a wonderful adoption experience we had! Our little guy was newly bathed and trimmed, and ready for the many hugs and kisses he would receive from our family. Karen was extremely professional and gave us instructions on his healthcare. Hello, I just wanted to say we just adopted an adorable dog from D & R rescue and we were very happy with the way it was handled. It's great to know how involved and particular they are in the adoption process. They care about the homes and people that are going to be adopting the animals. We know several couples who had adopted or rescued dogs from them, and I'm very pleased with the personal service we received.

D & R Rescue has been so helpful to us. I recently contacted D & R Rescue about a puppy they had taken in and after thorough review of our application we were accepted and we were able to pick up our little Lexi girl! I was happy to know that they really review the applications and really make sure that the dogs will go to a good home where they are taken care of and loved. D& R Rescue is 3 hours away from where we live but I was so pleased at the way things were done that were not hesitant to make the drive. I would definitely adopt from this rescue again! Karen has been so helpful. She went over all of the info with us that we will need in the weeks to come with our new rescue puppy and has kept in contact with responding so quickly to emails I have sent since. I love knowing that staying in touch with them was just as important to them as it was to our family. Well, it's been 2 months since I brought my little Rottie home. I didn't think I was ever going to get back home. Here's how the day's events unfolded. The drive from my house to Terre Haute is every bit of 4 hours. About an hour away from my destination I pulled into a rest area to stretch my legs. When I went to start my vehicle, it wouldn't start. I spent the next hour asking everyone if they had jumper cables thinking it was the battery. Turned out it was the starter. Mind you, it's Sunday and now going on 4:00pm, no place open to get my vehicle fixed. I was due in Terra Haute by this time. I called Karen, the D & R Rescue contact and explained what was going on and that somehow I would make it there, just not sure when. Once the tow truck arrived, I called Karen back to let her know I was on my way. She recommended a place to have my vehicle dropped off so it could get fixed the next day and told me to have the tow truck driver drop me off at her place of work and she would meet me there and pick me up. She then told me that she would let me stay at her house that night. On top of that, she let me use her vehicle the next day while my vehicle was getting fixed, so I could take my new little guy to the park and get to know him. As a D & R Rescue representative Karen went above and beyond her responsibilities, for me, a complete stranger! I would highly recommend anyone looking to rescue a Rottweiler (or Doberman) to go through D & R Rescue first. I can't say enough good things about her or this organization.

I was seeking a companion pup for my dog Sophie. While searching Pet Finder I came across Cooper. I contacted D & R Rescue regarding the possibility of adopting him. The application and adoption process was professional but straightforward. Karen was professional and wonderful to work with. She is very experienced and gave me some great suggestions on introducing a new pup into our home. She answered all of my questions prior to adopting and after. She also suggested some great dog training facilities in my area. She has a true love and passion for rescuing and making sure the rescues end up in the right forever homes. I recently adopted Pluto, now Baxter, and was amazed at the quality of service! First off Karen responded to me within the hour with what more information she needed from me to get approved and within a day I had been approved! The next day I went and met Baxter and fell in love! I was looking for an Emotional Service Dog and Karen saw that Baxter would fit the profile and he did! He by far exceeded my expectations and I love him more than anything in the world! If you are looking for high quality, professional, and helpful people to adopt a dog from this is the place! I couldn't have asked for a better dog and am so glad I was able to get the help and support I needed from Karen to find him! I had been looking painfully for around a month and was getting very discouraged when I found him. He was well worth the wait!

I lost my dog, Keebler, on Sept 19, 2013 and didn't think I would ever be able to love another dog, but after some time and a lot of sadness, my sister-n-law convinced me to look for another dog. In May 14, 2014 I saw a photo of Buddy on Petfinder while I was searching for a Chihuahua mix from D & R Rescue, Inc. I contacted Karen and she responded immediately. Since Buddy was still a baby we had to wait a little while to get him, but Karen was always very kind and stayed in contact with me and answered any and all questions. The day I picked Buddy up, was the first time I had seen him, aside from his photo, but he was adorable and so loving and sweet. I was surprised that the adoption fee covered Buddy being neutered, microchipped, treats, dog food, collar & leash and much more. Karen is one of the most caring people I have met. She cares about the animals and the person adopting them. Thank you so much Karen for allowing us to adopt Buddy and bringing the joy and laughter back into our family. He is spoiled rotten and is living a great life now that wouldn't be possible without people like Karen and others who rescue these pets. I recently adopted a puppy! Our desire for a puppy started a while back and we knew that we wanted a dog that would be able to work on the farm with us. We had been around some Australian shepherds before and decided that that was the bread we wanted. I started searching. I ended up on adoptapet.com and found our sweet Holly. The same day I contacted Karen about adopting her, I received an email back and began the adoption process. I was able to go and get her shortly after. She came up to date with vaccines, neutered and was very clean. Karen set us up with dog food, a collar and many helpful guidelines to bringing home a puppy. I am so in love with our baby! I highly recommend adopting from Doberman and Rottwiler Rescue!

After searching for a dog on petfinder I found a little shih tzu that I was interested in. So I contacted D & R rescue. Karen notified me right away that the dog I was interested in had found another home but she suggested this other little dog named Scooby. She sent me pictures and described him as being playful and great with other dogs. Which is exactly what I was looking for being that I have two other dogs. After talking back and fourth for a couple days we were able to meet Scooby at a adoption event at Petsmart. I fell in love with him right on the spot. I was sure he would be a great fit for my family. So I adopted him! I kept in touch with Karen over the folloeong weeks to let her know how Scooby was doing with my other dogs. She answered any questions I had and educated me on many things! You can really tell that she is passionate about her job and finding forever homes for these dogs. I adopted a cat from Karen at D&R Rescue and am very glad I got it there. Karen is very thorough - the welfare of the animal going forward and it's fit in the family is as important to her as getting an animal placed.

We were looking for a friend for our Maltipoo, Max, and decided we would prefer to adopt a rescue dog. I began searching on line, and we saw Tippers photo, and were interested. I contacted Karen, who sent an application to us to fill out. After we were approved, she answered all of our questions honestly and quickly. (She wasn't sure if Tipper would play with Max). After we decided to bring Tipper home, we had a few issues that Karen helped us to resolve with her knowledgeable suggestions. We were so impressed with the entire process. We are very happy with our decision to adopt, and Tipper has been a wonderful addition to our family!!

My mother-in-law moved in with us about 2 weeks after our cairn terrier succumbed to cancer (almost 2 years ago). This was a tough adjustment for the entire family and my husband seemed to have the most difficult time. It was a difficult decision to get another dog, but I felt strongly that it would be good for the family. I searched for about 6 months to find another cairn who was mild-mannered and calm and 2-5 years of age (no puppy). When I saw Indy (formerly Trent), I knew he fit the description to a "T". I was extremely nervous because I did not know anything about D&R Rescue and I had heard about bad rescues. I had a great deal of skepticism and proceeded with caution. I had many questions for Karen and Indy's foster mom and they answered every email and request. When I met Karen to formalize the adoption, I knew I was in good hands. She went over Indy's information very carefully and gave me such good advice. Additionally, I needed to contact Karen regarding something after the adoption and she responded with concern to that as well. I feel very comfortable recommending D&R Rescue to anyone looking to adopt from them - they truly have the pet's best interest at heart.

My 87 year old mother had lost her rescued mini-pin. We looked on multiple sites and found this group had one she was interested in. After contacting D & R Rescue, Karen got back with me the same day. The dog my mother was interested in was spoken for but I told Karen my mom's story and her wish list for a new dog and Karen told me of one she thought they would have within the week. Once the application was confirmed, we were invited to see the dog. Karen had not only one but 2 really cute dogs for my mother to choose from. Karen was very knowledgeable about the dogs, the quirks of the breeds she had and was really excited to be helping out both the dogs and my mom. I have nothing praise for the work this group does. We had decided to get a rescue dog instead of a puppy. I went on line for several weeks and seen Frankie at D & R rescue. Karen made the process go smoothly for me. Frankie was everything she said he was. Sweet, well behaved and housebroken. She met me at my convience with a bag of goodies to take home. After working from home for over a year, our family finally decided to take on some furry members. We decided that we would get two puppies, so they would have someone to play with and each child could be responsible for their own dog. We found Buddy first, through a local woman who had a litter. Then the search was on for puppy #2. We were searching petfinder daily but running into roadblocks... We kept being turned down for applications we put out... By 4 different local facilities. We were finally told that our other, unaltered 8 week old puppy was to blame. And then we found Cooper (originally named Freedom). I messaged Karen personally about Cooper, explained our desire to have two puppies, and she totally agreed with me.... Dogs need playmates! Karen always responded promptly to my messages and answered all of the questions I had. She was couteous professional and friendly. The kicker..Cooper was 3 hours away, and in a different state! Karen worked with me to find a time for me to be able to get to Cooper. Their fee was minimal in comparison to the fees that I was being told from the local organizations. Cooper came neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, with a collar, leash, toys, brush and a bag of food!!! Despite this rescue being such a long distance away, you can bet that anytime I hear of someone looking for a dog, or if we want another dog in the future, we will be contacting them!!!

This fall my husband and I got married and we decided that it was time to expand our family. Terry my husband had been looking at puppy's so I started searching on line at puppies around us and found d and r rescue and found our buddy on her site. He is a great addition to our family and gets along great with our other dog and my kitten he is everything she said he would be and is a really great dog

We decided to take in a shelter dog. We looked and looked for the perfect dog. Then we found Mandy at Rotsaver. she has turned out to be the perfect pet I have two other dogs and several Grandchildren. We were searching the perfect additional to our family! We had searched shelters, local rescues and petfinder. Finally we came across Ocoee (former "Barney"), a 3 month old puggle. I emailed Karen with D&R Rescue back and forth for a couple days. We then we to see her and she introduced us to three different puppies available for adoption. Karen was so helpful and honest about each dog! She told us what things we would need to work on with the puggle we were interested in, and we were definitely up for the challenge of helping him to become the best family dog he could be! Ocoee has been with us for a month and is making amazing strives to being a perfect family dog! He loves his 3 little human brothers and his older dog brother (who tolerates him for the most part ;), and he loves to chase his kitty sister and brother! He is a wonderful additions to our family! Our family of seven (five children between the ages of 13 and 2) had decided that we were ready to include a small dog in our family. I had asked several different rescues about small dogs, but always received a negative response. Finally, I saw two small dogs on petfinders that were both from D and R rescue. I emailed with basic info about our family (including the fact that four of our five children are rambunctious boys) and asked if either of the two dogs would likely be able to thrive in our household. Surprisingly, Karen responded that she thought one of them might be up for the challenge. :) Karen placed our Ollie in a busy, active foster home for the weekend to see how he would do. The foster family reported that he adored the kids. The next day, our family met Ollie and brought him home with us. Karen was right that Ollie would do well with kids. We can always find him in the room with the most kids, he loves playing with them, and is unfazed by their (at times) wild behavior. We really enjoy having Ollie in our family, and are so thankful that Karen was willing to allow him into our home. We were hoping for a dog who would really enjoy the kids, not just tolerate them, and because of D and R rescue, we finally found the perfect dog for our family!

My wife and I were looking for a new member of the family and we came across this organization. The level of commitment and communication of the staff that we experienced was excellent. There were prompt responses to questions, a willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty and a general respect and love of dogs. We are so happy with the dog that we received from D&R Rescue. We are a dog loving family. I lost my beloved miniature schnauzer, Sir Charles Barkley, to rectal cancer after twelve years of faithful companionship. I have been looking for another silver schnauzer for months when I found Wes on the Rescue Me site that D&R uses for potential homes for dogs. I knew the minute that I saw him that he was the one!

He has captured everyone’s heart just like I knew he would. First two nights he slept with his head on my shoulder. He is one step behind me everywhere I go. Each day he relaxes a little more. Our other schnauzer, Briana, smelled him all over when he came in the door and by the next day she was curled up beside him taking a nap.

We went to church this morning and were surprised when he came bouncing out the doggy door to greet us. He learns new things right away. Smart Boy! Thanks for allowing us to have him..

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new addition for our "family". After searching for 8 months we finally found him! We adopted him through Karen with D&R rescue and she was so helpful. She responded to emails within minutes and was able to answer all questions. It was wonderful meeting Karen because she truly is an animal lover. Our puppy is doing great and loving his new home. We were so sad when our dachshund Rylie died. Our grandaughter decided we needed another dog and had been searching Pets.com for what she said was the perfect dog for us. At first I said no but decided to just look at the picture. There she was a young female Dachshund called Bitsy who was the most adorable dog I have ever seen!
We e-mailed for more info . We never expected a reply that evening because it was late but Karen from D & R answered right away. Adoption papers were filled out quickly and even though it was a holiday Karen kept in touch with us all through the process I was so impressed that they checked references and had to get a recomendation from our Vet. They really care for all the dogs they place and want them to go to the best homes.
The exciting news that we were approved came on Sat. and on Sunday we drove 3 hours to meet Bitsy. One look at her and we fell in love . We completed the adoption and Bitsy was ours !
Karen and D & R Rescue had made sure she was checked out by a Vet., Microchipped, up to date on all her shots even had a colar and lease, dog food and treats.

I found our forever friend/new puppy while looking online on the shelter websites. I immediately emailed Karen because the description was of a puppy, who while in foster care was living with children, dogs and a cat. My husband and I have 4 children so getting a socialized puppy was very important to us. Karen immediately responded to my inquiry and we soon made plans for picking up our new puppy once she was spayed. I was very nervous adopting a pup without meeting her first. We live 3 hours away. However, I knew how dedicated Karen is to finding just the right home for her animals. With her knowing we have 4 kids I knew she wouldn't allow us to adopt a pup not suited for us. And wow is this true!! We are on day 2 with our precious chihuahua Pomeranian mix and she's amazing!! I couldn't be happier and we are all in love. Our puppy is well socialized, not skiddish, not rough or mean. She fits in perfectly with our family. Thank you Karen and D&R Rescue for our forever friend! I highly recommend this rescue regardless of your drive, it is so worth it!

My husband and I became first time indoor dog owners in 2012. We love our dog Josey so much, and decided we wanted another dog. We spent many hours looking on different websites looking for what we considered the perfect dog for us. Over the course of many months of reading, I realized that I wanted to adopt a rescue instead of buying from a breeder as we did with our first dog. Wow....it was very eye opening to read about puppy mills and something that I had never really thought about before. I am certain that any future dog we may own will be a rescue !

We found our perfect dog at D & R Rescue. Karen was absolutely wonderful, and answered my many, many questions regarding the puppy. Our puppy, Boomerang Sunshine "Boomer", was fostered by a family, and I can tell they took very good care of him. Boomer is the sweetest, most easy going boy. We could not be happier with him, or with our experience of adopting through D & R Rescue.

We had been considering getting our son a dog for the past couple of years. We knew that we wanted to help an animal in need as opposed to dealing with a breeder or pet store, and my wife happened to find D and R Rescue online. We saw a picture of Max (a terrier mix puppy), and decided that he looked like the dog for us. My wife got in touch with Karen to discuss the adoption process, and she took us through every step and answered every question that we had. We arranged a date to pick up Max in Terre Haute, and everything went smoothly. Max had received good care with the foster family until it was time to come to our home. He had been neutered, micro-chipped, and partially house broken. Karen had copies of his medical records and all of the necessary forms for us to complete. Max even had a new leash & collar and some treats. While we were there, Karen was handling another adoption and arranging for the care of some baby raccoons as well. Her dedication to these animals is quite apparent and does not stop once the adoption is complete. She has promptly answered questions we have had since bringing Max home. We would definitely contact D and R Rescue again as well as recommend them to family and friends.

In May 2014, we began searching for a puppy through Petfinder.com. following the unexpected death of our 8 year old dog, Daisy. We feel strongly about adopting rescue animals versus purchasing from a breeder. After several weeks of searching, we found Torrie's profile. I immediately contacted Karen at D & R. Karen was very prompt in returning my email inquiry and sent me more details about Torrie as well as the application. I was impressed with how thorough Karen was with the background check. I called my vet to let her know we were going to be adopting, and she said Karen had called to inquire about vaccinations, heart worm medication etc. Even though it was a holiday weekend, Karen sent me a return email letting me know that our adoption application had been approved. My son and I drove to Terra Haute from Rochester, Illinois the next weekend to pick up Torrie. When we arrived, we were greeted by Karen. Karen obviously loves what she does and truly cares about the animals that end up in her care. Torrie and her brother (also being adopted that day) were well-kept and in perfect health. Karen provided Torrie with a bag of food, treats, a leash and collar as well as booklets and articles on raising puppies. She also wanted us to know that if we changed our minds at any time, she would take Torrie back to ensure Torrie would be placed in the best home. I asked Karen how long she had been rescuing animals, and she said about 30 years! There have been many lucky animals over the years who have been blessed to meet Karen on their journey to their forever homes. Torrie (now named Maggie) brings us great joy everyday. We are thankful to Karen and D & R Rescue for all that they do.

I'm raising my eight year old grandson, Daniel. We decided we wanted to adopt a puppy. We looked at several local shelters and spent a month looking online. Finally landed on the Petfinder
site and asked for a "mini-mutt" female puppy and up popped 3 sisters---toy fox terrier,Chi mix. Just what we were looking for. So I e-mailed Karen and she very quickly responded. With patience and understanding Karen helped me thru the adoption process. And a few days later we met & took our precious "LIL SUZY" home. She's just adorable & so entertaining. I am a college student who had been non-chalantly looking for a dog on various websites when I came across a Border Beagle that i fell in love with. unfortunately, he had a congenital lung defect and was put down. I was very upset about it, but was called and notified in person over the phone and consoled by Karen of this organization. Later on she emailed me with a litter of Springer/Beagle/Basset puppies asking if i was interested. I was, but i was very busy at the time and could not be certain that I would be able to come by to adopt one. Karen worked with me to find a time and when I finally met my new pal Charlie I fell in love with him. he had been treated so well and was so social and full of energy and absolutely adorable. It was a great deal as well, spending 150 dollars on him included the puppy himself, plus his being spayed, first round of shots, leash, collar, food, treats, reading material, and a lifetime membership to a microchip should he ever get lost. I could not be a bit happier with the business I did with D & R and would absolutely look here again should Charlie ever need a friend.

We had searched for a rescue dog for several months with no luck. We came upon D&R Rescue, Inc. through Petfinder. I quickly emailed about Tink, and we received a quick reply. I had several more questions about the dog and emailed Karen a couple more times, each time I received a kind, quick, informative response. After completing a very thorough adoption questionnaire, we were approved to adopt our new family member! Karen was incredible! She was very informative and answered all of our questions. Bentley (formerly Tink) is adjusting well to our home and his big brother Bruno. Karen was thorough and professional through the entire process. You can tell she cares so much for her rescues. We lost our Molly in May. I did not think we would want to get another dog so quickly, but then something just told me to look on Petfinder.com just to see "what was out there." We found and fell in love with our new baby, Sadie (and her sisters, but my husband said I could have only one- darnit!). We worked with Karen White, who was absolutely fantastic about accommodating us (since we live in Urbana, IL, she was even willing to meet us after hours... even after suffering a concussion!). I just can't say enough good things about what a great organization this is- very clean and took great care of our Sadie Baby- thank you, Karen and D & R Rescue! You guys rock!

We are very pleased with our new family member. Karen was so kind. In our initial contacts, she responded to emails immediately. Once we were approved, Karen knew we were driving long distance and was willing to wait while we experienced road construction delays. Upon arrival, she was very generous with supplies and information. Our puppy was both healthy and happy. He had already been neutered, was microchipped, and had some shots. We found a picture of a super cute puppy in the breed we were searching for on Petfinder.com. I emailed D & R Rescue and got a response right away. We adopted Baby in March of 2014. She is our darling and our family and neighbors adore her. She was so well-cared for when we got her, her shots,spaying, and grooming were all up-to-date. Nothing to do but love her, and that we do each and every day. The animals at this rescue are well-cared for and all adoptees are very well screened. Rescues are great because they save lives...unfortunately, not all do it well. This rescue does it well!

I have been searching for a dog for quite sometime now and I stumbled upon one I was quite found of through D & R rescue. They were fantastic throughout the adoption process, answering all questions, promptly responding and making me feel welcomed. I was extremely impressed by everything and would recommend D & R rescue for anyone looking to adopt/rescue a pet!!

We adopted a Morkie at Christmas from D&R Rescue. Karen sent us pictures and information about the puppy and his parents. This was our first puppy so we were a little nervous but Karen was able to answer all of our questions. The kids named our little puppy Buddy and he is the perfect dog for us. He is so sweet and gentle with the kids and their friends. Buddy loves playing fetch and going on walks. It was great adopting with D&R Rescue. They gave us so much information about puppies. Buddy came to us with most of his shots, microchipped, leash, collar and a bag of food. We are so grateful to Karen and D&R Rescue for our little puppy! He is wonderful!

Let me begin by saying I take my hat off to those who save lives and D&R Rescue is the best. My husband and I first met Karen 7 years ago when we adopted our first Doberman. I fell in love with the breed when my parents began showing Dobermans. When they retired from the ring, they decided to adopt and heard about Karen and the Rescue. Several years later they are on their fourth Doberman adoption making it a total of 5 successful, saved lives. Karen and the Rescue are very educated on the breed, making sure they are spayed/neutered, disposition and personality tested and thorough in their placement evaluation. Not to mention they all were identity micro-chipped, vetted making sure all wormed and vaccinated, supplied with collar, leash, toy, treats and healthy upon release. I wouldn't hesitate, in the least, referring anyone to Karen and this Rescue, for any adoption, not just a Doberman. Not only is the dog being saved, but in some circumstances so is the person. What more could you ask for in an adoption.

We had waited about six months before we were ready to start looking again for our new family members. We had a Beagle mix for seventeen years and she was going to be hard to replace. We spent several weeks looking on Petfinder.com before we found Petsmart was having a pet adoption weekend. We decided we wanted two puppies. We stopped by Petsmart and found two Jack Russell mix puppies that quickly stole our hearts. We didn't commit that Sunday, but we contacted D & R Rescue the next day and found one was still available but the other had been adopted. Karen had another puppy, a Springer Spaniel mix that was in a foster home that was available and we made arrangements to meet him and the Jack Russell mix again. Karen helped us through the adoption process, which couldn't have been simpler. When we stepped into the vet clinic, all of the paperwork had been completed, the puppies were ready with micro-chips, toys, food, training video, collars and new leashes. They had had been spayed and neutered. No item was forgotten. Karen has stayed in touch to find out how things are going. We couldn't be happier with our new family members. They have quickly adjusted to their new home and make us laugh daily! Thank you D & R !

We adopted a rescue dog from here at Christmas. She is everything Karen described har as and has been a great addition to our family. She came already microchipped and with collar, leash, bag of food, and more to get us started. We would definitely adopt from here again.

I have recently bought my own home and have a 10 yr boxer tht I have had since he was 3 months old. And I had bn looking around tryn to find the rite dog to fit my life and family and my older dog. I found out about D&R rescue through a lady tht wrks with Karen. And she had let me know tht Karen had a young female doberman tht sounded like she might b the match i was looking for. So i went to meet the dog her name is Ava and i absolutly feel n love with her so i filled out the application for her and Karen does the best i have ever seen in making sure tht when she adopts a dog out tht its going to a forever loving home by doing a home inspection,checking out vet records of any animals u own or have owned in the past, ect... So i was schedule to pick up Ava on a sat and the unexpected happn my 10 yr old dog got very sick and i had to put him n the vet hosp so i had let Karen know about wht had happened and she kept Ava for me till my older dog got better and was bk to him old self. She even calld me off and on every few days to c how my older dog was doing. Karen is very compassionate about animals and wht she does. So the day came tht i was able to get her and i was so excited to b gettn my new addition to my family. Ava was alrdy spayed utd on all her shots and had bn groomed for me tht day before i got there to pick her up, also microchipped and came with new collar,leash,bag of food, and a bag of goodies. I got her on Jan 25 so i've had her for a little over a month now and shes a complete joy to have she is exactly how Karen had told me she was. Im very grateful to Karen for doing wht she does for these dogs and takn care of Ava for me till my older dog got better.

I was looking to adopt my first puppy March 2006. Through PetFinder I found a litter of beagle/basset puppies rescued by D&R rescue. I made an appointment and drove out to visit Karen and meet the puppies. 9 week old Louie came home with me that day. He was perfect. Neutered, microchipped, first round of shots, collar/leash, and bag of goodies - all for a $100 donation fee. He is one my greatest blessings - I couldn't be more grateful to D&R Rescue for saving him! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great rescue!

In April 2006, I was looking on Petfinder for my first dog ever. That is when I came across a picture of an adorable lab/corgi mix (Odie) that was rescued by D&R Rescue. I filled out the application so that I could meet the little guy. Karen was very thorough with the background check to ensure Odie found his fur-ever home. At the time, I was living in an apartment that did not allow dogs. Karen boarded Odie for a month after I adopted him so that I had time to get moved into my new home. She allowed me to pick Odie up every day and take him for walks and play with him during that month. She also answered all my "new mom" questions to help me prepare for the new experience of having a dog. When I was ready to bring Odie home, he had been microchipped, neutered, had his shots, had a new collar/leash, a bag of food, and a bath. Karen and her rescue took fantastic care of my baby boy, and I tell everyone in the area to check out her rescue if they are looking at adding to their family. I couldn't ask for a better experience. It is apparent that she truly cares about each dog she takes in and adopts out. I am truly grateful to have found Karen/D&R Rescue.

I had been looking to adopt a dog for awhile when I found Boris on Petfinder. I filled out the application on a Saturday evening, and was approved in less than a week! Karen was in touch with me just about everyday on the status of my application; I was able to call and talk his foster mom to see if he was a good fit for me. Overall it was a great experience!

In November of 2013 I found Elsa on Petfinder and she stole my heart. I emailed the rescue and received a response with an adoption application that night. After corresponding over email for several days, we made arrangements to meet so that I could pick up Elsa, sight unseen. Never having met her we were a little nervous but had been assured of her wonderful personality by both her foster home and rescue workers. She's been in our home for about two months and has changed our lives so much. She brings so much joy to my family's lives. Thank you so much for all the help with the adoption. We love our fubaby!

My family adopted a little Yorkie Poo 2 months ago and we quickly agreed that we would like to adopt another dog so she had a companion... and we really liked the friendly Yorkie personality. I began to casually look around at rescue organizations where I found Boomer, who has been renamed Dierks. My vet had suggested looking for a male, slightly older than our puppy. Dierks was a perfect match. I contacted Karen with D & R Rescue Inc. and she quickly got back with me. Karen was extremely flexible with our meeting time, as it had to change due to poor weather conditions with little notice. Dierks was exactly as she had described him. He is extremely friendly, good around kids, good around animals, and has a gentle spirit. After being home for just a few hours, he had snuggled up with our puppy to take a nap together. He had a veterinarian's clean bill of health, his shots were current and he had just been neutered. Karen sent us home with a folder full of helpful information, treats, a toy and coupons to help get the additional supplies he would need. I woud highly recommend adopting through this organization. As a matter of fact, I have already passed on their information to others. Thank you Karen for answering all of our questions, educating us and saving Dierks! I had been casually watching Petfinder for a possible addition to our home and contacted Karen about one of her rescues. That dog had already been adopted, but Karen let me know of another dog that seemed to fit what I was looking for. Since I was looking for a dog with the energy for obedience and agility, I very much appreciated the trial period to see if the dog would be the right fit. Karen is very good at reading dogs and this Cairn terrier mix is just the right dog for us. Communication with Karen before and after the adoption was very good, even though this was a busy time of the year (December 2013).

I would like to congratulate the folks at D and R rescue for all the trouble and expense they went to
in their efforts to enable us to adopt our little rescue pup. This little puppy must have been in
an excellent foster home until all of the veterinary procedures were completed and she was old enough to go to her permanent home. She was very well socialized to both adults and kids when we got her and also friendly to our maltese dog Marty and made friends with him right away. I was also impressed by the fact that the folks at D and R Rescue went to all this trouble to rescue and adopt out a pregnant maltese toy dog and her pups when they were born even though this is not one of the breeds they are dedicated to saving. These are good hearted people!

I had been looking for a Maltese for about 3 months. I had filled out several applications and sent emails to several other rescue groups with little, slow or no response. I saw a little Maltese on Petfinder that had been rescued by D&R. She was currently being fostered about 2 hours from my home. I was very pleased and surprised at how fast Karen responded to my request for the adoption application and followed up with me on any questions I had. I felt that Karen really wanted to make sure this little Maltese was the one for me and also that whe would be going to a good home with responsible owners. Karen even followed up with me after I brought "Molly" home to make sure we were happy with her and that Molly was adjusting to her new home and family. I was impressed with Billie, the foster mom...she sent a care package that included some food, treats, collar & leash, and a toy for Molly. Billie has a lot of love and compassion for the dogs in her care. I am so lucky to have sweet little Molly in my life and it's because of rescue groups like D & R and people like Karen that make it possible.

In September 2013 we adopted bugsy, a half Boston Terrier - half Pug. I've owned dogs all my life, but our first rescue experience was several years ago when we adopted a Great Pyrenees named Emma from the Indiana Great Pyrenees Association. That experience made us realize we would probably only get our dogs through rescue from that point forward.

When we first talked to D&R about Bugsy we were in Pet Smart in Indianapolis. They were very willing to make sure our other dog Emma was going to work well with Bugsy by letting us run home to get her and then having them spend some time getting to know each other.

We were very pleased with the process, the friendliness and the fact that we were helping another dog find a home.

Karen was very flexible about working with us on when we were going to meet her in Terre Haute to pick him up and made sure we had everything we needed for the micro chip and anything else that would get us through our first vet visit and getting him settled.

Unfortunately, we lost Emma a month or so after getting Bugsy to some health related issues. So in all reality, the timing on finding him was perfect. His caring personality and amusing demeanor helped us through the tough time of losing our other dog. Now we spend our time socializing him and convincing him the squirrel out the back door is not after him.

We found our rescue pup through D & R rescue (via adopt-a- pet) Karen was very patient with us until we picked up our puppy in November of 2013. It was obvious that he had already had a wonderful home with Karen while he and his brothers and sisters (and his Mom) were ready to be adopted out. Karen named him Puck (I'm guessing from the character in Midsummer Nights Dream). We kept this name as he is very impish!!! He is an absolute joy to our family. He is a very well mannered, very good natured and a very affectionate dog. He is keen to join in with everything we do. He gets on with our elderly dog and the cats (allow) him to share their toys. I think this comes from being with Karen for the first 8 weeks of his life.
When our elderly boy (dog) is no more Karen will be the first person I contact to find a companion for Puck. I highly recommend Karen and D & R rescue for anyone wanting a healthy, happy and well adjusted pet for their family. Thank you Karen. Puck has changed our lives. Lynn & David.

Zip just celebrated his 2 yr homecoming this weekend. After the death of my dog Topper I debated on whether to adopt again or not. My youngest son wanted a dachshund and we looked at local shelters and rescues for quite some time. After finding Zip on Petfinder I contacted Karen and D&R and eventually Zip's foster family. They were all very caring, very professional and knowledgably. Karen gave me advice after the adoption and I continue to send her pics every now and then. I would recommend her to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

We have adopted two dobermans through D & R Rescue. One had been shot and terribly abused. If it hadn't been for Karen she would have died. Karen is very careful where she places her animals .we were blessed for 12years with a great dog...we now have another rescue that was 4months. She is going to be a fine addition to our family, thanks to Karen.

Earlier this fall, we were looking for another rescue dog to add to our pack. We currently have an 11 year old Black Lab and a 5 year old Italian Greyhound- both rescues. There, on Petfinder, was little Freddy; a Cairn Terrier/ Yorkie cross- at D&R Rescue. Karen of D&R Rescue responded quickly to our inquiries. We sent the application, were approved, talked to Freddy's foster mom, and made arrangements to meet our new fur kid, and bring him home. Surprisingly, Freddy was fully vetted, neutered, and microchipped. He even had a new collar & leash, a toy and a very helpful information kit to help ease the transition to his new home. We were given a two week trial period, during which time we could return Freddy if he did not fit into our home. But he is such a keeper! He is a wonderful, worthwhile little dog. Freddy (now Laddie) has lived with us for two months, and is becoming more and more comfortable in his new home. His funny, sweet personality just grows and grows. D&R does a great job of seeing past the fleas and matted fur of an unclaimed dog, picked up by animal control; and giving an animal a new chance for life. Thanks to Karen and his foster parents for the newest addition to our family.

About two years ago I found a dog on petfinder that I was interested in adopting. I emailed Karen and she got back to me right away with additional information and continued to respond promptly and very helpful in arranging a meeting. When I met Chico he had everything you could dream of done and even came with leash collar and toys at a very small adoption fee! Karen was very helpful and since I was a first time dog owner and provided great advice for us. I was so happy with my adoption and the shelter I have referred family and friends and just recently adopted a second dog from the shelter even though it is a 4 hour drive for me. Again, I cannot say enough about this shelter and Karen!

I adopted Franklin a week ago from D & R Rescue. Karen was a pleasure throughout the adoption process and was very accommodating when my I needed to change the plans for pick up. Franklin has been an absolute joy! He is friendly with people and dogs, which was very important to me, and a value that was expressed on their website concerning the dogs that they choose to foster. I would highly recommend D & R Rescue to any potential dog owners.

I love Yorkies. I have rescued several over the years. I was on a search engine through Adopt-A-Pet for many years and would periodically get e-mails regarding available pets within my parameters. I got an e-mail last Friday regarding a Yorkie up for adoption. I felt my heartstrings tugged when I looked at her picture. I e-mailed D & R Rescue, who had her, and the response was almost immediate. They sent me information and an application to fill out. I did so and e-mailed it back. They talked to my reference and by the next morning, I was approved. I made arrangements to travel that day to Terre Haute to meet the Yorkie and the rest is history! I now have this sweet, sweet Yorkie at home with me in her new furever home. I was most impressed with Karen and her organization on the swiftness of their response, their professionalism, the very complete paperwork I was given, their care for the adoptees. EVERYTHING they did was first rate and I would recommend them to anyone looking.

We had been viewing central Indiana Humane society websites and visiting the Indianapolis Humane Society for weeks. We saw some desirable dogs but, in the case of pups, the fee seemed high and the Society personnel were sort of officious.

Finally we read about adoption clinics to be held at local Petsmart stores on November 15, 16 & 17. On November 17 we met Karen White of D & R Rescue, Inc. at the Petsmart on West 86th St in Indianapolis.

She had "Archie,"a Basenji Mix 7-month old pup, with her and my wife and I were immediately attracted to him. We were allowed to handle him, take him for a walk around the store and outside for a sanitary break. It was love a first sight. The adoption paperwork was completed fairly quickly, Karen helped us get Archie's toenails clipped by the store's groomers and we went home with a new member of the family.

Archie has fit right in at our house, he rules the roost, gives us love and affection and makes us laugh at his antics. He's well behaved and hasn't caused any problems. Karen has helped us by email as to how to handle his feeding, etc. We're very happy to have Archie and to have gotten him from Karen White and her organization, D & R Rescue.

I was heartbroken when Boomer, my 17 year old Springer Spaniel died. I wanted another dog but did want not a puppy. I was leery of rescue groups after a bad experience with an aggressive Basset rescue. I saw a pug on Petfinder available for adoption through R & D Rescue. I spoke with Karen several times, moved through the adoption process quickly. She asked if I wanted to meet a sweet little one year old Basset that just weaned puppies. She said this dog would be a good fit for my family. I said no way, no Basset Hound. I drove to the clinic to meet the Pug. He was a nice dog but I did not have real connection with him. Karen was very understanding then mentioned that she brought the Basset too, just in case we wanted to meet her. It was love at first sight. I knew instantly that she was my dog. That was three years ago and I am still crazy about Simone. Karen really knows the animals in her care and her advise made a good match. It was reassuring that Simone was fostered with children before being placed. Everything Karen told me about Simone was spot on. This is the only rescue group I would ever consider adopting from again. Thanks to Karen and the foster family for letting me adopt this wonderful dog, you healed my broken heart.

We have adopted Toby from D and R Rescue Inc, in the spring of 2013. We had looked online at Petfinder.com for the just right dog for us. We had some specific requirements and needed a breed that wouldn't aggravate our son's allergies. Our son was also a little hesitant around aggressive dogs. We saw some dogs on Petfinder and learned they would be at Petsmart in Zionsville for an adoption weekend.

We met Karen at Petsmart and she got to know our family. Our children were 11 and 13. We were a calm household and Karen found a perfect match for us. At Petsmart, we also met a foster parent that works with Karen who lives locally. Karen asked us to e-mail her our wish list. I e-mailed her on Sunday and the following day she called us and said she had our dog. He was being fostered by the parent we met. Both Karen and the foster mom described Toby and felt he would blend with our family perfectly. He was a little shy and Karen thought he needed a young family who could pull him out of his shell.

Karen considered our needs and made a perfect recommendation. We had a chance to meet Toby and found our new family member! He has been a great joy. He was already crate trained and was a year old, perfect for our circumstance.

I appreciate that Karen worked to find a dog that would fit well with our family. Karen and Toby's foster mom took the time to educate and guide us as new dog owners. Toby transitioned easily into our home.

In late 2012, my wife and I were looking to purchase a hypo-allergenic dog breed. We encountered several delays with breeders which led to frustration. Then we did a search of hypo-allergenic breeds online and came across D & R Rescue, Inc's post for bischon frise/chihuahua mix puppies that were up for adoption. Contacting Karen was easy and she answered all of our questions promptly. The adoption process was not difficult and the required paperwork took no time at all. We brought our puppy, Daisy, home within about two weeks after our initial search. D &R brought all of the puppies in the litter to a local pet store for pick-up, and we were able to meet Karen. She had all of the forms prepared and even provided us with some basic starter items/coupons for taking the puppy home. The best part was that Daisy had already been neutered and started on her vaccinations. Once less thing to worry about with a new puppy!

Eight months later, we've kept in contact with Karen and D & R Rescue, sending picture updates on how Daisy is growing. We've had no issues with Daisy and she's already a beloved member of the family.

I Seen Dexter online and contacted Karen at D&R Rescue and we went through the adoption process without delay. The day I picked up Dexter he was healthy and clean and a happy little guy. He came home with a toy and food and treats, also a new leash and collar. He had all his shots and was neutered. Karen made everything so easy and gave us all kinds of information and reading materials to make sure Dexter settled in comfortably in our home. He immediately made us his forever family!!! So very thankful to D&R Rescue for taking Dexter in so we could adopt him.

My wife and I have adopted six Boston Terriers in the last 15 years. Leading up to this spring, we had three Boston's at home, one of which we knew was coming full cycle in his life and kept him as comfortable as we could leading up to his passing. We do miss our Butch dearly but unexpectedly, one of our other Boston's, Mickey, had a seizure in at home and passed away at the Vet four hours later. We were devastated. The pain of loosing two beloved Pets within a one week period of time was comparable to losing a human family member. We suffered through May and June and I started looking for a partner for our remaining Boston, Lilly. Lilly had climbed into a shell, becoming mean to other neighborhood dogs who had been her friends and didn't want to play with her toys.

So I started looking and came across a young Boston Terrier at a Rotti/Dobe shelter in Paris, Illinois run by Ms. Karen White. I informed Karen of our interest in Hershey the Boston. Our emails were always answered promptly usually before the end of business the same day. We set up a date to come dawn to see Hershey and met Karen at the Animal Hospital in Terre Haute Indiana. Karen had Hershey ready to meet us, he was fully vaccinated, neutered micro chipped and came with a very nice leash and collar.

Karens love of her animals is exemplary, a her affection and love towards Hershey was obvious. The whole experience was seamless. These operations to help needy animals is a costly undertaking, and deserve full support from all animal lovers. That is why my wife and I decided to donate above and beyond what Karens asking price was, every little bit helps. Needless to say Karen was appreciative and also happy to see that Hershey had been well placed. Karen runs a first class operation, she needs and deserves all the support possible. Thanks again Karen for a great experience, and even more, a well cared for puppy who loves his new home!!!

On July 17, 2013, we lost our family dog to kidney failure. My husband and I had rescued her at the age of three. She passed away at sixteen. Her name was Guinness and she was a short hair black/tan dachshund. We fell in love with this breed. On August 21, 2013, I saw a dachshund on petfinder. com that was with D & R Rescue. I contacted Karen for more information. She responded quickly. The process with the application and setting up a time to meet, went very smoothly. On August 24, 2013, I met Daisy at her foster home. She was in excellent care! Daisy came home with a goody bag, leash, collar, food, treats, microchip filed under my name, a folder to help guide with her care, and a copy of the vet visit. She has been with our family for two days and we are in love. Thank you D & R Rescue and foster mom for bringing Daisy to us. In the spring of 2012, we searched Petfinder for a dog to adopt. We were looking for a King Charles mix and we found Bella who had been rescued by D and R Rescue, Inc. She was currently being fostered and was weaning her puppies. I contacted Karen and she made special arrangements to continue Bella's foster placement until we could drive from Lawrence, Kansas in June to pick her up. In the meantime, Karen kept in contact with us, answering my family's list of questions so that we could prepare for our new family member. We took a risk by adopting sight unseen, but trusted Karen and was rewarded with a beautiful dog! Bella is the sweetest dog I have ever owned and was clearly well-cared for while in her foster home. She was everything Karen said she was and more! When we picked her up, she had all the extras...microchipped, vet checked, new collar and leash, and a bag of goodies to go to her new home. Thank you, Karen, for rescuing a fabulous dog and giving us a life-long friend. Laura, Reilly, Raegan, Kit Kat, and, of course, Bella :)
