Review for D & R Rescue Inc, Paris, IL, USA
After 18 and a half years of saying no to having a dog, my parents finally started to "warm up" to the idea of me getting a dog if i moved off campus. My dad was less then thrilled about the idea and I could tell my mom was starting to budge and ran with it. My mom was very specific about what she wanted in order for me to get a dog. She wanted something small (since it would travel to and from school with me), and the type of deal where it would be a puppy, neutered, have all of its shots, be ready to come home as soon as i got back from college so i could train it over the summer, etc. for less then $500 since she knew my dad would be upset and thought I would never be able to find anything to meet that description.
I heard about petfinder from one of my sorority sisters and was looking for small dogs when i came across a little of spaniel mix puppies born just a few days earlier. I immediately emailed Karen asking if one of the black puppies was a male, and no sooner then five minutes later i had a response and was given an application. After turning in the application she followed up within a few days saying that my application looked good but wanted to talk to my parents before she gave me the ok. Luckily my mom agreed. Seeing that this was my first dog, i was more then eager to get every update possible, and no matter how annoying i felt i was being asking for updates and pictures i always received a response in a timely manner.
After a eight week wait, my mom and I finally made the four hour drive to pick up Rasta from Indiana. As soon as we arrived i was handed a little black fur ball along with a leash, collar, toys, food, treats, frontline & heartguard medication, as well as all his papers. It was may more then we every expected to receive along with the dog for such a low adoption fee ($200). All though the first few days were rough (from lack of sleep) my entire family fell in love with my dog (including my dad!).
Almost one year and 20+ lbs later Rasta is no longer a puppy. We have been inseparable since day 1. In that time he has turned into a family dog, and not just my dog. i found a best friend who keeps me company late at night while i study and cheers up everyone in our house with his personality. Adopting this dog was one of the best decisions my family has ever made and we were beyond happy with the service of D&R rescue
