We found D&R Rescue on Petfinder. I contacted Karen about a dog that I thought would be good for our family. That dog eventually got adopted before we could get to Indiana from Illinois. Karen then suggested a couple of other dogs that she thought would be a good match for us. We drove 2 hours to Indiana to meet one of them, Andy (renamed him Bailey), a Pomeranian mix. At first I wasn't too sure about this dog being a good match. He was a year old and very much still a puppy. We weren't used to this...our other two dogs were 13 and 15 years old when they passed away so we were used to seniors who were calm and slept a lot. Karen told us we could bring him back if it didn't work out. I really liked the fact that she truly cared that the dog was in the right home and was willing to take him back. We took him home and our 4 year old son instantly fell in love with Bailey. Bailey was a great dog who just needed help learning some good manners. I emailed Karen with the puppy issues we were having with him and she was very responsive with help. She gave me some training tips to help us to help Bailey. We really wanted the adoption to be successful. We've had Bailey now for about 9 months and he is a great dog, super smart and has much better manners! We love him so much and he is our son's best friend. I would definitely recommend this rescue group. Some day we may adopt another dog from them after Bailey gets a little older.
