We had looked for a dog to adopt for approximately a year when we saw Roxy on Petfinder.com. She had all the qualities we were looking for... a small dog, young (just over a year), good with children, good temperament, a mix of breeds that we liked.

I contacted D & R Rescue, and received a very fast response that yes, Roxy was still waiting for a permanent home. Karen at D & R Rescue and I corresponded several times regarding Roxy... what was known of her background, what Karen's personal experience was with Roxy, and what had been communicated by the foster mother. With two young children, I had to be very careful before bringing a dog into our home, even for a visit. To help answer some of my specific questions, Karen put me in touch with Vicki, the foster mother.

Vicki gave me detailed information about Roxy's temperament, her behavior with children, her habits, her routine, and her overall disposition. We talked for some time over the phone, and by the end of the conversation, I knew we had to meet Roxy.

D & R Rescue is located about an hour and half from us. I was ready to make the drive to meet Roxy and spend some time with her. As it happened, Vicki had regular appointments... in our town!!! Talk about fate! So Vicki brought Roxy along on one of her trips here, and dropped her off for a visit after meeting us and evaluating our home. We had Roxy for 4 hours when Vicki returned. We knew immediately that Roxy was a part of our family. Vicki helped us complete all of the necessary paperwork, and we adopted Roxy.

Karen was extremely helpful, thorough, and caring throughout the entire process. She followed up with us after we adopted Roxy, and we have kept in touch with email and pictures. I can't imagine not having Roxy in our family, and D & R Rescue made that happen. They were an absolute pleasure to work with!!
