Review for Rebuilding Together, Inc., Washington, DC, USA
Rebulding Togther could be a good agency to help the elderly, and the disabled, When i applied for assistance, i did not realize that the homeowner had to pay for their own materials and have homewners insurance just in case they mess your house up. My homeowners insurer dropped me after seeing the type of job they done to my Lima Ohio home.
I used my tuition to purchase $1500 worth of 30 year warranteed dementional shingles, I thougt that i was covered. The roof feel in after 1.5 years, and the homeowner's insurance adjuster came out and took a look at the new roof and said; " I can't make a claim for this roof, it has poor workmanship. "Your roof was too flat to use shingles on it, you needed roll roofing or metal. Me not being a carpenter thought that i had something to be proud of, a new roof with a 30 year warranty on the material.
I felt really stupid when i tried to tell my insurance company that Rebuilding Together was responsible for my roof falling in.
At the time i was on dialysis and had suffered a brain anuersym and stroke and was on disablity. I was going back to school as a type of rehab program for the brain injury patients. I have contacted Rebuilding Together and they won't return my emails phone calls, but acknowledge that they are responsible won't come to a reasonable resolution, since now i have tried putting 2 roll roof jobs on my home to try to stop the constant leaks that have ruined insulation, ceilings, floors, clothing, furniture and all that comes with furnishings of a house.
This has put stress on trying to have a relationship, too embarassed to have company. People ask me why / how do i put up with it? Promises un kept only gave me hope, until i asked for a application for they would consider helping right their wrong. The only time i got responses from them is when i posted damage pictures of their Facebook page. In the meantime me and my family have been homeless as we wait for a resolution from Rebuilding Together, Maybe they need to change the mission statement because i have been Rebuilding Alone. Please someone do something this has devastated our lives, we have suffered too long, and got the opposite of what we expected.

James, we empathize with your situation, but we have already reviewed this and communicated our findings to you via email, phone, and Facebook. There were three organizations operating out of the same space where you said you went for help. One of them was a Rebuilding Together affiliate that has since disaffiliated and no longer exists. Rebuilding Together, however, has never asked a homeowner to pay for their own materials as you say the person who did the work on your home asked you to do. We can't find any paperwork or staff that show that work was done by a Rebuilding Together on your home. We have asked you to show us any paperwork that you have and you have not. We believe that there is some confusion about who did the work on your home. If there was a Rebuilding Together affiliate in your community we would ask them to see what assistance they could provide, but with no local affiliate, we are not in a position to offer direct assistance. I am personally looking for other organizations in your community that might be able to offer assistance or advice. While we do wish you the best and have done what we can to help get to the bottom of the situation, we simply can't find a connection to Rebuilding Together. I will continue to look for additional organizations that may be able to offer you assistance, but there is nothing else that can be done. Rebuilding Together completes over 9,000 home repair and modification projects each year for low-income homeowners across the country, and always at no cost to the homeowner. www.rebuildingtogether.org Tim Parsons Director, Marketing and Communications Rebuilding Together tparsons@rebuildingtogether.org
