Mission: The mission of Rebuilding Together is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners. Our goal is to ensure a safe and healthy home for every person. The work done on the homes is free for the homeowner, and done primarily by skilled and unskilled volunteers. Both volunteers and recipients benefit from improving their communities, one house, one non-profit facility, at a time.

These people are simply wonderful. I am so grateful to them for the assistance they gave me, fixing things around the house that would have been too costly for me to afford at this time. Specifically Larry and his team were so helpful and courteous. I am so very grateful to these people and pray that God will bless them as they continue to provide help to those in need.

Rebuilding Together is a great organization that serves low income homeowners who are in need. The work that Rebuilding together does is critical to improving the low-income communities in the United States. I've personally seen first-hand how the impact of fixing one persons home can affect a whole community. Rebuilding Together deserves more than five stars in my opinion. The staff go above and beyond to create safe and healthy environments for the homeowners the serve. It's great to see an organization that truly cares about the lives of others. I also recently just finished serving my 1st term as an AmeriCorps member for one of the affiliates of Rebuilding Together and loved every bit of what I did. I love their mission and dedication to helping keep homeowners in their homes. I love it so much that I will be doing a second term of AmeriCorps with them. Thanks for being such a wonderful organization!

I serve with Rebuilding Together through a program with AmeriCorps, and I'm in my second term (of 2 possible) because I couldn't imagine leaving Rebuilding Together. Reading the negative review hurt me, and I'm glad one of my dear friends and an exceptional person at Rebuilding Together was able to respond so knowledgeably. Where I serve, right outside of DC, most of our homeowners are elderly and/or disabled, but even those who aren't are never expected to lift a finger or purchase a thing. In fact, I like to tell homeowners who are more insistent about doing something for us in return that this is a gift to them, something they have long deserved, and all we want is for them to sit back, enjoy, and hopefully be happy with the end result.
Last year, we received a thank you card from a homeowner who had recently lost her husband, which, unfortunately, is not uncommon. She wasn't home when I visited her house during National Rebuilding Day, but her team completely gutted and repaired her kitchen, painted after we had done mold remediation in her basement, and installed handrails, grab bars, and other ADA necessities so she could live safely in her home. Anyway, at the end of the card, she said, “I haven’t smiled since my husband died a year ago, but the repairs you did on my home put a permanent smile on
my face. Thank you for making me happy. :)"
That's what Rebuilding Together does for people. Every day, something like that happens. And the people who remain in the office are the ones who get us funding, who advocate, who continue to find ways for us to improve so that we can help more people. I cannot tell you how proud I am to serve with Rebuilding Together. As an AmeriCorps member, we are given a living stipend that equals the lowest of what our clients make, so that we can better understand how they live. Rebuilding Together hasn't repaired my home, and being able to empathize with our homeowners is valuable and difficult, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. Rebuilding Together has changed my life, and they now have me for life. I hope that if I ever need help with my home and I'm on a fixed income, wherever I am in the country, Rebuilding Together will be there.

Rebulding Togther could be a good agency to help the elderly, and the disabled, When i applied for assistance, i did not realize that the homeowner had to pay for their own materials and have homewners insurance just in case they mess your house up. My homeowners insurer dropped me after seeing the type of job they done to my Lima Ohio home.
I used my tuition to purchase $1500 worth of 30 year warranteed dementional shingles, I thougt that i was covered. The roof feel in after 1.5 years, and the homeowner's insurance adjuster came out and took a look at the new roof and said; " I can't make a claim for this roof, it has poor workmanship. "Your roof was too flat to use shingles on it, you needed roll roofing or metal. Me not being a carpenter thought that i had something to be proud of, a new roof with a 30 year warranty on the material.

I felt really stupid when i tried to tell my insurance company that Rebuilding Together was responsible for my roof falling in.

At the time i was on dialysis and had suffered a brain anuersym and stroke and was on disablity. I was going back to school as a type of rehab program for the brain injury patients. I have contacted Rebuilding Together and they won't return my emails phone calls, but acknowledge that they are responsible won't come to a reasonable resolution, since now i have tried putting 2 roll roof jobs on my home to try to stop the constant leaks that have ruined insulation, ceilings, floors, clothing, furniture and all that comes with furnishings of a house.
This has put stress on trying to have a relationship, too embarassed to have company. People ask me why / how do i put up with it? Promises un kept only gave me hope, until i asked for a application for they would consider helping right their wrong. The only time i got responses from them is when i posted damage pictures of their Facebook page. In the meantime me and my family have been homeless as we wait for a resolution from Rebuilding Together, Maybe they need to change the mission statement because i have been Rebuilding Alone. Please someone do something this has devastated our lives, we have suffered too long, and got the opposite of what we expected.

James, we empathize with your situation, but we have already reviewed this and communicated our findings to you via email, phone, and Facebook. There were three organizations operating out of the same space where you said you went for help. One of them was a Rebuilding Together affiliate that has since disaffiliated and no longer exists. Rebuilding Together, however, has never asked a homeowner to pay for their own materials as you say the person who did the work on your home asked you to do. We can't find any paperwork or staff that show that work was done by a Rebuilding Together on your home. We have asked you to show us any paperwork that you have and you have not. We believe that there is some confusion about who did the work on your home. If there was a Rebuilding Together affiliate in your community we would ask them to see what assistance they could provide, but with no local affiliate, we are not in a position to offer direct assistance. I am personally looking for other organizations in your community that might be able to offer assistance or advice. While we do wish you the best and have done what we can to help get to the bottom of the situation, we simply can't find a connection to Rebuilding Together. I will continue to look for additional organizations that may be able to offer you assistance, but there is nothing else that can be done. Rebuilding Together completes over 9,000 home repair and modification projects each year for low-income homeowners across the country, and always at no cost to the homeowner. www.rebuildingtogether.org Tim Parsons Director, Marketing and Communications Rebuilding Together tparsons@rebuildingtogether.org

I have been working with Rebuilding Together as a volunteer, team captain and board member for over 10 years. In our community, this organization works directly with elderly and disabled low income homeowners to ensure they can continue to live in the homes they worked so hard to obtain. They focus on warmth, independence and safety. For folks who have been lucky enough to age in place so far Rebuilding Together provides the tools, labor & materials to ensure these people can continue to enjoy their own homes. This relieves the burden on government subsidies and helps keep aging neighborhoods safer. The amount of money required to keep each house safe is minimal - typically under $1500 - but the work done is priceless to the homeowners who receive it.
