Review for Dumb Friends League, Denver, CO, USA
this charity is the go to place to adopt animals in Denver. They have wonderful events for the community that raise awareness, enthusiasm and funds. They save many, many lives and have top notch volunteers. However the CEO is drastically overpaid compared to other similar charities. Also as a former volunteer at the San Francisco SPCA, I witnessed far greater effort ensuring animals were healthy before they were exposed to other animals up for adoption. this was done via a quarantine system. Not only does this reduce healthcare costs for the facility, but for the new pet owner as well. I have adopted one sick cat (that made my other cat sick who then needed costly care). I have many friends who adopted from Denver Dumb Friends league. Some of these turned out to be sick as well. Bringing a pet home can already be a stressful time, but it should also be joyous. instead, healthcare challenges that could have been prevented greatly compromise the initial home integration stage.
This charity should reduce to CEOs pay in half and put that toward preventative health care. I hope to see them improve on these aspects. As soon as they do I'll be right back as a donor. they do save lives, but I do think that the community needs to put more pressure for more reasonable CEO pay.
