Review for The Project On Government Oversight, Inc., Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

POGO continues to meet and exceed my expectations as an organization that I trust. I will open my paper or read articles in my newsfeed and every week I will see a reference to POGO's work somewhere. I recently received their annual report and I am pleased to see that I am one of a large community of people who support the work done by this institution. Like many of us, I am careful about my giving and each year check third party evaluators like great nonprofits to see how POGO is rated. And every year they are rated the highest by greatnonprofits and other evaluators. This is an organization I will continue to support.

POGO does an effective job at promoting Transparency Accountability and Oversight within the federal government. At a time when a premium seems to be put on secrecy, POGO pushes for openess, which is fundamental for a democracy to remain vibrant.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Not change a thing.

Review for National Criminal Justice Association, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 1 stars

I do not believe this is an organization that is worthy of support. There are many other similar organizations, with a more established history, and that receive high review marks from independent third party evaluators such as Charity Navigator, the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance or American Institute of Philanthropy. With so many groups out there claiming to be unique in their quest to obtain financial support, one must be diligent in evaluating where to lend support. I do not believe the National Criminal Justice Association merits neither the trust not financial investment that could be better invested elsewhere.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Restructure their internal framework and management process. Refocus their mission so as not to be repetitive of other groups.

I find POGO to be a good 'bang for my buck'. I have supported POGO for five years now and am proud to do so. I think investigative journalism is in crises as newspapers (due to dwindling revenues) are closing down either their investigative journalism desks, or their publications entirely. Recently 'Newsweek' just announced it is suspending its print edition and even as large a cultural icon as Superman is quitting his fictional newspaper. I think POGO helps fill the investigative void left by the continued downfall of print media and provides in depth long term research into issues I find very reminiscent of '60 Minutes'. I like to think I am part of a community of people who care enough to make a difference, and we choose to do so through POGO.
