Review for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary, Montgomery, TX, USA
I started volunteering at Spirit Acres after going through a difficult divorce that left me broken and depressed. Horses have brought me comfort for many years so I did some research on the internet and found Spirit Acres. I talked with Kat over the phone and made arrangements to visit the farm.
I can tell you, upon meeting Kat and touring the farm I knew I had to be a part of this rescue!
I was happy to help with finances when I could. This farm runs on volunteers who provide whatever is needed, (Monetary donations, farrier and vet expenses, purchasing fed and hay and carpenters to keep barns and fences in good shape.)
I felt happiness and made friends not only with the horses, but with other volunteers. I adopted one of the mares and one of my best friends adopted her colt.
Before I knew it I had been volunteering right at 3 years! I cared for the horses and helped Kat in the office. I made life-long friends and i still try to help Kat when I can even though I live in Tennessee now. I am amazed by the devotion and love that Kat has for animals.
Review for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary, Montgomery, TX, USA
Spirit Acres was a healing place for me as well as the horses. Divorced after 25 years, my life was turned upside down, depressed, etc. The first day I walked through the gate, I knew this was where God had lead me. I arrived in 2004 and spent 3 years working hard every day. Feeding, grooming, bathing, cleaning stalls, cleaning hooves - whatever needed to be done. Kat knows each horse and can tell you each one's story. She has a heart as big as Dallas, but that doesn't feed and care for the horses. She needs donations and volunteers each and every day to make sure these horses get the best care and live out the rest of their lives never knowing pain or hurt again. Most volunteers will also donate either money or feed/hay which is urgently needed. I adopted a mare from the farm, she was an incredible companion for me. I had horses before I got married and this mare helped me find myself again. There are horses at Spirit Acres who were brought there to live their last days in peace and love, and there are good horses there that can be adopted. I still talk to Kat and hope to visit Spirit Acres real soon.
