i continue to support Spirit Acres on a monthly basis as i have for 15+ years. it is the least i can do for the outstanding organization led by Kat Matrician and her volunteers. Their love of horses and providing all of their needs is outstanding. i can highly recommend for additional needs for the service they provide.

I have known Kat Matrician and Spirit Acres for about 15 years. She helped me in a time of need when I had two horses and had to move back to the city from our 8 acre tract in Tomball. Kat offered to take the horses in her program and I found her to be the most caring compassionate person in the world in caring for her babies, the horses. Even when she is overrun by horses in need, many abandoned, she keeps her head above water in doing whatever it takes to give the horses the best possible care, in sickness and in health. Kat and her helpers severally need financial help. Horse feed and veterinarian care do not come cheap although some maybe either reduced in cost or contributed. She has numerous emergencies and is in constant need of financial and personal help. All the local authorities that find an abandoned or injured horses bring them to Kat and Spirit Acres in Montgomery, Texas. Although I can not give help in body and soul, I am a monthly contributor to this well deserving cause. Please consider doing the same, every little bit helps.
As my mother grew older, trying to find her meaningful gifts for birthdays, Christmas and other occasions became increasingly difficult. What she didn't need was another blouse or something to dust. However, she had always had an affinity and a soft spot in her heart for the American Mustang. Although Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary cares for many different breeds of horses (and donkeys and mules too!), one of their rescue animals happened to be an American Mustang, Mustang Sally, who was terribly abused until she was rescued by Spirt Acres. Because of Mom's love for Mustangs, we "adopted" Sally for her. Mom was even able to travel from North Carolina several times to meet her. This relationship occurred until both Mom and Sally passed away...within the same week of each other! We now know that they are riding the clouds together up in heaven!

It was always a challenge to come up with a gift to give to my elderly mother at Christmas. She certainly did not need another blouse or something to dust. However my Mom always had a soft spot for the American Mustang. Searching in my county, I found that Spirit Acres did indeed have a rescue mustang, Sally, who had been abused. Since then, I have "adopted" Sally in my Mom's name. It was a pleasure to my Mom and myself, as well as a comfort, to see Sally getting the care she deserves. Sadly, both Sally and my mother have passed away (within 5 days of each other!) but I am certainly they are both enjoying themselves up in heaven.
Spirit Acres continues to serve the community by providing homes for abused and older horses. Kat has done a great job throughout the Covid pandemic maintaining this care despite many challenges. We need more people like her in this world!

Kat does a tremendous job every year finding homes for horses and caring for horses at the rescue. Montgomery, TX is fortunate to have her as a resident as she provides a vital role in the community caring for the needs of our unwanted and abandoned equine friends.
Volunteering at Spirit Acres is such a wonderful experience! Kat knows all of the horses' stories and she pays attention to what they like & dislike, who is in their herd, and where they like to spend their time. When you take a few minutes to get to know this place & the horses you'll always want to come back.

I found Spirit Acres in 2007. When I went to visit I was so impressed with Kat, with the horses stories, with the farm itself. Kat works very hard to make sure all the "work" gets done so there is plenty of time to be hands on with the horses; washing, brushing, medicating, whatever they need. And sometimes they just need a human near. Kat has taken in many abused, homeless, and starving horses as well as rescued some from kill pens. Each horse is treated as an individual & they thrive on the love & care that Kat & the volunteers give them.
They need donations though. When you donate you can be assured it all goes to the horses needs. This is a wonderful, peaceful farm. Please help to keep it growing.
I've volunteered at Spirit Acres since 2015. Kat Matrician is an example of how all humans should be ... caring, compassionate, and totally dedicated! Spirit Acres has provided a safe and loving home to many horribly abused and neglected horses and also does large animal rescues and community education - a worthy organization indeed! The world is a much better place with Kat and Spirit Acres in it!
Kat runs an awesome rescue she takes in any animals that people bring to her~~ plus when she has 2 goes out & physically rescues animals.. If needed some of the animals lives in her house if needed.. The animals are her priority. She's been doing this over 30 years..
While on vacation a few years ago, we came across Spirit Acres Farm. We were very impressed with the care and love given to the horses. The people we met were so giving of themselves. When in the area next time, we will stop and if time permits, help with what we can.
My name is Donna and I have volunteered to help Spirit acres when I'd go on vacation. You couldn't find anyone else that is better with the abused and sick horses or any animal that needed a home. I would say Kat Matrician is one of the people that love animals better then her family. Animals come first with her and her family. A few years ago Kat to have surgery and as sick and close to death as she was I was contacted to see if I could come stay with her and the animals at Spirit acres. She was more worried about her animals then her own life. At the time she fell sick her finances we're very scary. She was not able to raise money as she had done in the past. I love Kat for the service she gives to her animals, we need more caring people like her.

I have known Kathy for 29 years. What she does for animals is phenomenal. She puts her animals before friends and family. She is true to the heart about what she does. Spirit acres horse rescue is one of the best around, that I have come in contact with. I have volunteered there when possible for the pasr 27 years.
I met Kat some years ago when I visited the farm after reading an article about it. Kat and I have kept up throughout the years and I value her as a friend in kind. Being a horse lover, I can truly attest to the fact that Spirit Acres is a special place of refuge for injured and abused animals. Kat has been deeply devoted to her mission for many years and continues to give it her all. I highly recommend Spirit Acres Farm as deserving of the highest possible rating.
I have known Kat, for about 6 months now. Kat is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet and she treats the horses just like her children. When you see her around a horse it just puts a good feeling in your heart to know that these animals will be taken care of. The work that they do there is truly a work of art and an act of Hope and caring for the horses. Keep up the good work Kat.
I have known Kat for a number of years and know she is one of the most knowledgeable persons when it comes to equine health and rehabilitation of horses . She has spent a lifetime helping these abused and homeless horses .She takes them in when others will not and gives a a quality life using alot of her own finances .

What a person to take in all these abused horses and keep them safe and happy for the duration of their lives never saying no to those critters in need we need more people that will give not thinking of themselves but these needy beings
I volunteered at Spirit Acres several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed helping with the horses there. Kat has such a love for all the horses there and they seem to understand that.

I've supported Spirit Acres for many years and I continue to be really impressed by the excellent work Spirit Acres, Kat M., and the care team do - day in and day out - to better the lives and well-being of the Horses in their care!! As anyone involved in rescue work knows, it is a tiring and never-ending process, sometimes emotionally painful but also rewarding in so many ways. The sentience of animals is a blessing to Humans, and Kat understands this. It shows in the passion she expresses about the Horses at Spirit Acres and in general. I encourage other donors and volunteers to support Spirit Acres in whatever way(s) they are able to do that. No donation of any sort (time, money, goods, services) is wasted, and is always much appreciated!

I have financially donated to Spirit Acres and have supported Kat in her endless devotion to the care and well-being of the Horses who end up there there for a number of years now. Feeding the Horses, caring for their physical needs (farrier, vet, etc.) and maintaining the property are costly, and Kat works tirelessly to make sure all is taken care of. It's a lot of work to do so! Kudos to Kat and the wonderful volunteers there who improve and enhance the quality of life of the Horses in their care. Kat has an excellent head for business and knows how to utilize financial donations to the greatest extent and benefit possible for the Horses. Donations of any kind and volunteers are always needed to ensure all needs are met for the Horses. This is a top notch non-profit organization which deserves and would greatly benefit from your assistance/support. No donation is too small; all is appreciated.
I have volunteered at Spirit Acres farm equine rescue and sanctuary for over 12 years. I love the horses and being able to take care of them gives me a great deal of pleasure. Kat works hard to keep the horses fed and cared for and give them a good life.I wish more people would volunteer at the sanctuary and receive the benefits that I get from helping these wonderful horses

I met Kat and became involved with Spirit Acres seven years ago. Since then I have adopted five horses and fostered three. Through Kat's guidance, my horses now live a safe and happy life. However, this is not the case for many abandoned and/or neglected horses who find their way to Spirit Acres. It does "take a village" of volunteers who can give their time and funds (when available) to help with the care and feeding of the horses, minis and donkeys who reside at Spirit Acres. I can look out at my "herd" and feel very blessed that they can graze contentedly. Hopefully, through volunteer hours and donations, this can be the end result for Spirit Acres' many rescued horses.
Great place and even better people! Kat is very knowledgeable and passionate. The farm is a great place to learn more about horses and help these wonderful animals. I always look forward to my time here!
Spirit Acres took in my aging Paint Horse and cared for with giving her good food, good horse friends, and a last goodbye hug when she passed. Thank you.
I recently began volunteering at Spirit Acres Farm. In the short time I have been there it is clear that Kat and her small band of volunteers all have the equine residents' well being as their priority. From the miniature horses to the 18 hand Thoroughbred, Apollo, each is attended to individually whether it be medical care, hoof needs, to the very special needs of the several senior horses on site. No one is turned away. Volunteering and TLC goes a long way but with nearly 50 head of horses funding is needed desperately. Please make Spirit Acres Farm your choice and give today!
Kat does a remarkable job taking in and caring for horses of all sizes and shapes. The last time we visited she had several horses she was nursing back to health from ills contracted prior to their coming to Spirit Acres. Feeding and caring for the large number of horses is very expensive and I would encourage all who can afford it to make a donation to this wonderful organization.
Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary is a wonderful place where rescue and retired horses can live and be cared for and loved by many volunteers within the community, as well as at-risk youth in the community who benefit by learning to care about and care for animals in need.
Kat Matrician does a wonderful job of making these horses a priority and by engaging with and educating the community to participate in any way they can.

I live near Kat and all her rescue babies. I get the opportunity to see the working of the rescue year round and I can tell you these people work tirelessly to take care of their rescue babies. You can be sure your donations are put to good use and I would definitely recommend supporting this rescue.
My husband and I visited Spirit Acres a couple months back. We stayed for a few hours, I didn't want to leave. The horses just drawn you in. They are so beautiful and so sweet. Thank God for people like Kat and her husband, who own the sanctuary. They take great care of the horses. And Kat knows them all by name and the backgrounds of each horse. She just loves them and it shows.
I love volunteering at Spirit Acres & spending time with the horses, and also with Kat. It is very evident that each animal, no matter how small, or how old, or how much vetting they need, is equally loved & cared for. Kat is great with each horse & it is obvious that they love her too. Please donate to this rescue/sanctuary so that Kat can keep helping those in need.

I met Kat in 2006 when I had to give up 2 of my horses. I started volunteering and helping out with the horses (and dogs and cats and pigs and anything that needed a home). Kat knows all their stories and she goes above and beyond to make sure they all know love. I have met many of the adopters, Kat finds wonderful forever homes for as many animals as possible. If you visit Spirit Acres you will instantly feel the loving and welcoming spirit there. Please do visit. Volunteer. Get to know Kat and the horses. The beautiful horses. While helping them you'll find you have helped yourself.
I found spirit acres online and contacted them about volunteering. I took a tour of the facilities and although I do not have much experience with horses, I could tell that each one is loved and cared for. This is a rescue that I will definitely be giving my time to in the future.
I loved volunteering here at Spirit Acres. It's so heartbreaking seeing what people did to innocent horses but absolutely amazing to see that these wonderful people put their hearts and souls into these horses. The people and horses I met there are the sweetest things ever. The photo I uploaded is a miniature horse named Pocahontas. She's so beautiful and sweet. She isn't able to walk right because her arthritis is so bad. That's an expensive surgery. I know it would make me and the owners of Spirit Acres HAPPY if people donated enough to help Pocahontas.
An organization that truly fulfills their mission statement. Spirit Acres is a sanctuary, rescue and retirement facility for horses whom would otherwise be doomed to slaughter.
Kat and the horses have changed lives. She is compassionate and caring for many animals, including humans. I only hope that Spirit Acres continues to grow and thrive because they are greatly needed.
I started volunteering at Spirit Acres after going through a difficult divorce that left me broken and depressed. Horses have brought me comfort for many years so I did some research on the internet and found Spirit Acres. I talked with Kat over the phone and made arrangements to visit the farm.
I can tell you, upon meeting Kat and touring the farm I knew I had to be a part of this rescue!
I was happy to help with finances when I could. This farm runs on volunteers who provide whatever is needed, (Monetary donations, farrier and vet expenses, purchasing fed and hay and carpenters to keep barns and fences in good shape.)
I felt happiness and made friends not only with the horses, but with other volunteers. I adopted one of the mares and one of my best friends adopted her colt.
Before I knew it I had been volunteering right at 3 years! I cared for the horses and helped Kat in the office. I made life-long friends and i still try to help Kat when I can even though I live in Tennessee now. I am amazed by the devotion and love that Kat has for animals.

Spirit Acres was a healing place for me as well as the horses. Divorced after 25 years, my life was turned upside down, depressed, etc. The first day I walked through the gate, I knew this was where God had lead me. I arrived in 2004 and spent 3 years working hard every day. Feeding, grooming, bathing, cleaning stalls, cleaning hooves - whatever needed to be done. Kat knows each horse and can tell you each one's story. She has a heart as big as Dallas, but that doesn't feed and care for the horses. She needs donations and volunteers each and every day to make sure these horses get the best care and live out the rest of their lives never knowing pain or hurt again. Most volunteers will also donate either money or feed/hay which is urgently needed. I adopted a mare from the farm, she was an incredible companion for me. I had horses before I got married and this mare helped me find myself again. There are horses at Spirit Acres who were brought there to live their last days in peace and love, and there are good horses there that can be adopted. I still talk to Kat and hope to visit Spirit Acres real soon.
Spirit Acres is one of the most caring and helpful organizations I have ever dealt with. I have volunteered and I have donated supplies and time to them many times. They care for the sick ,healthy ,hurt, abused and unwanted animals that most people would look over. Kat has always been there helping the animals. I have known her many years even before the rescue was formed. Its a great organization and we need many more like it.

I have know Kat Matrician for a very long time. She was one of the first people to help me with showing my horses when I was a child. I am now 43 years old. Since then we have became very good friends and I actually enjoy helping her with the rescue horses. I have gone with her to pick them up,doctor, haul and have even fostered a few for her. Spirit Acres is a wonderful haven for all animals whether big or small, sick or well. They are all loved and cared for with such love everyday. Kat is a very giving person and I try my very best to be there for her and the animals anytime she calls and needs some help. The rescue is a very needed place since there are so many unwanted and uncared for animals. Thanks, D'Anna Garza/G Force Ranch
Spirit Acres continues to be the best place in this part of the world for abused or neglected horses to find a safe and loving sanctuary. My two aged mares are comfortable and well cared for there, and I love seeing how each of the horses there find their place in the herd. They deserve your support.
I started volunteering for Spirit Acres a few months ago and I am still astonished by the devotion and the personal sacrifice that Kat has endured for these animals. She lives without many common place luxuries so that her animals can be well fed and cared for. I pray that she gets the much needed help she needs for these animals. If we all were a bit like Kat the world would be a better place. If you are looking for a place to adopt or donate your time/money there is no better place.
I first volunteered with Spirit Acres in 2010 when I lived in the Conroe, TX area. I saw first-hand the quality way the horses were cared for. There are few options for unwanted or abused horses in that area, and Spirit Acres is relied heavily upon by law enforcement who rescue abused animals. I now live in Alaska, but continue to support the farm financially because I believe in the work Kat and the volunteers are doing. it's a worthwhile organization doing a great deal to help horses in difficult situations. We need Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary.

I discovered Spirit Acres Inc. when I was given "time with horses" as a Christmas present. I've been volunteering there every week for almost 3 months, and have found it one of the most rewarding and satisfying opportunities that I've ever done.
After talking to me about what kind of work I most wanted to do with the horses, Kat Matrician, the main leader at Spirit Acres, worked with me to find the right fit for my volunteer work. She's taught me bundles of information about handling horses, has been encouraging about my work, as well as been supportive as I've struggled to balance volunteer work and family responsibilities.
Rescue work requires careful balancing of needs and resources. In every aspect of the work at Spirit Acres, Inc. I see honest and careful work. Money, feed, and other supplies are used wisely and shared as fairly as possible among the horses.
Rescue of abused, hurt or abandoned horses is a surprisingly big need, and not just anyone is capable of doing the job. The work at Spirit Acres fills a big need for law enforcement officials and others in charge of making sure local animals are treated well.
I'm grateful for the friendship and compassion I've seen handed out freely at Spirit Acres, Inc. I highly recommend both monetary donations to the work and volunteer time to help these wonderful horses who need a second chance.
Review from Guidestar
I have been volunteered at Spirit Acres since 2006. There is a variety of different horses that call S.A home. You have the ones that are what would be considered as adoptable, then some that may need some T.L.C , some who are sick and need extra care, and even some who need something as simple as food, or friendship. No matter the needs , Kat makes sure all are met. This is a wonderful place to volunteer, a great place to learn, Kat's always told me theres never a stupid question. Even though this is a horse rescue many of gods other creatures find there way to S.A., and again Kats on the hunt to find homes. Spirit acres is the best place there is, and Kat theres no one like her i swear theres wings under that workshirt.
Spirit acres is one of the best around, you wont find another like it. Kathy is one of a kind,a dyimg breed
I started volunteering a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that Kat and everyone else I have met through here have been the nicest people and they truly care about the animals that they help! It is very nice to know that there is people out there who care enough about horses and other animals to do so much! It has been a wonderful time!
I first met Kat at the Arabian Nationals in 1998 and have kept up with her and her endeavors ever since. Her dedication to the horse is not only an inspiration to me but I greatly admire her dedication to the rescue cause as well. She consistently puts the welfare of the animal even over her own well being and greatly involves the community with outreaches and volunteer opportunities. I truly would have a hard time envisioning a world without either Spirit Acres Farm or Kat! A few years ago, we rescued a horse which literally consumed our lives until she was turned around physically as well as emotionally. To do it on a larger scale definitely takes a wonderful woman with a compassionate vision. Spirit Acres Farm definitely has my vote.
I am a fulltime volunteer at Spirit Acers I have been working here since Febuary . Miss Kat has taught me a lot about horses that I didn't know. the horses are well fed and taken care of . If it wasn,t for spirit acers these horses would have died of starvation or abuse by the people that owned them. I enjoy working with Miss Kat in take care of and loving these beautiful animals.
Spirit Acres is a place that offers safe harbor for animals that have been cast off by their owners and in most cases would have been sent to slaughter or put down. The county this rescue is in has a HUGE horse population and only ONE rescue to service the needs of the neglected. It is IMPOSSIBLE for someone to think or say anything other than good things about a place that is trying to help innocent animals who have been cast off by others. These animals needs are met on a daily basis and they are loved by the people there.
Kat is a wonderful person, very knowlegeable and dedicated to these horses.

Kat Matrician of Spirit Acres, is a well-kept secret in Montgomery, TX. She keeps up with the rescue and farm that is home to more than 50 horses, a pot belly pig, cats and dogs, that she has rescued over the years. It is her mission to find these animals good homes after she tends to their injuries and abuse that they suffered previously. Kat manages to keep everything going on the farm, but desperately needs more support from the community and horse lovers everywhere.
Please donate a bale of hay or an hour of your time to ensure the safety of these animals.
Spirit Acres is home to 60 horses who, with the efforts of Kat Matrician owner of Spirit Acres and caregiver of her four legged friends, were rescued from homes where they were neglected and/or abused. Some of the owners were going to put their horses down but Kat said "NO!" Her love for the whinnies shines through every day.

Finding out about Spirit Acres was the best thing that ever happened to me. Just being on the land around all these horses is beautiful. The large horses and the minis are exquisite animals that get all the love and care they need at the rescue. I highly recommend this non profit to everyone. Just go there and see the beauty for yourself, because you will be amazed.
Spirit Acres is the best horse rescue and sanctuary in Texas and throughout the USA. The horses are very well taken care of, get all the feed, hay, alfalfa and meds they need on a daily basis. The atmosphere is very relaxing, and this allows the horses to be relaxed. I enjoy volunteering there. Spirit Acres ROCKS!
Spirit Acres is an amazing place, and is a magical place too. Just being there around the horses and tending to their needs is a wonderful feeling. These horses get love and attention on a daily basis, and are treated like kings and queens as they should be. Sit back and watch the horses trot or gallup throughout the farm is true beauty. Spirit Acres brings these abused and neglected horses back to life again once they come to the rescue. Love, love, love all that Spirit Acres does for these horses.
When I found out about Spirit Acres I went to visit as soon as I could. I can't express how impressed I was with Kat Matrician and her devotion to the horses in her care. She tends to each one as if it was her only horse. She knows every medical issue that they have and she has rescued 50+ horses. I only wish she had the all donations she needs to address everything on her to-do list. And I also wish she had more volunteers to help her carry the load which is a heavy one. She is an example to us all in her love and compassion to these beautiful creatures.
I only wish I could donate more to this wonderful horse sanctuary. Kat gives her time and love to these horses that have been abused and neglected. Thank God for such a fine person, we could use so many more people like her.
Kat is a very knowledgeable lady with dedication. The spirit of the horse rescue one to be supported wholeheartedly. needs public donation/ funding to expand and develop. a worthwhile cause
Even a blind man could see the love Kat has for the animals at Spirit Acres. I've visited numerous times to take pictures and just visit the animals. Kat is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. She genuinely cares about the animals who are lucky enough to find their way to her sanctuary.

I have done photography sessions at Spirit Acres. Kat gave me the names of all the horses, and dogs, that I photographed. And she knew their names without hesitating. She also gave me the stories behind each horse, telling the horrors that they had gone through. After taking many pictures, I grabbed a brush and went out into the pasture to groom some of the horses. They were all well fed and appeared to be over coming their mistreatment they had endured before being rescued by Kat. She is doing a tremendous job with the horses and is very careful when placing them in forever homes. Each one holds a special place in her heart, just as she holds a special place in theirs.
I've worked at the rescue. Kat is one of the most personable and carring people I've ever met.
I love working there as well, she makes me feel at home, and the connection beteewn her and the animals is more like a momma to her child. I look forward to the next time I can volunteer at the rescue.
I hope Spirit Acres continues to provide a safe haven for these beautiful, majestic creatures!
Spirit Acres is an amazing place of healing and peace. Kat is incredible with the animals and the connection is obvious. I have learned sooooo much from her in the time I have spent there. This is a rescue that deserve help and assistance so it can expand to help more and more horses in need in it's area!!!
I can't say enough good about Kat and Spirit Acres and the good work she and volunteers do in taking care of the animals rescued. Her passion and dedication in caring for needy equines is without question. I think the best way to describe the work Kat and the volunteers do for the equine population is to equate that work to the work Mother Theresa provided for humans. In addition to helping equines that she rescues and/or are donated to Spirit Acres, Kat also provides assistance to individuals and their equines. My little mini donkey, Sam, is alive and well today because Kat cared enough to return my call, listen to my concerns for little Sam, and introduced me to the best veterinarians at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital who saved little Sam's life. I am forever grateful to Kat and the veterinarians and support staff at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital for saving little Sam's life. Had Kat not returned my call and introduced me to the veterinarians at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital little Sam probably would not be with me and his buddy CiCi today. Thank you Kat for all that you do to help both equines and their caregivers.

Words alone cannot express my gratitude for Kat and the work she does with Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary. Kat really goes the extra mile when the need arises. I shall be forever indebted to Kat and the veterinarians and staff at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital in Navasota for saving the life of my little miniature donkey, Sam.
Sam and his buddy CiCi are both rescue donkeys who came to share their lives with me, my elderly mare, and her daughter in 2003. Sam and CiCi have been wonderful companions to each of us throughout the years. I don't know who originally rescued Sam and CiCi but I am so glad they did.
Back to my gratitude for Kat. I first met Kat over the phone in December 2008. My little miniature donkey, Sam, was dying and needed immediate medical attention greater than what was available locally. I did not know where to take Sam for the care that he needed. I further knew I did not have the financial resources to take him to the State University Equine Hospital. Sensing the seriousness of the situation Kat reached out to her veterinarians at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital who agreed to see Sam. On the day of Sam's appointment, Kat met me at the hospital. After examination and testing it was determined Sam needed immediate surgery to remove a bladder stone. Brazos Valley worked with me financially and preformed the surgery. Sam and his buddy CiCi stayed at the equine hospital until Sam was ready to come home. Sam had a wonderful recovery and three years later continues to romp and play with his buddy CiCi and bring smiles to everyone who meets them.
By the Grace of God and the caring kindness of Kat and the veterinarians and staff at the Brazos Valley Equine Hospital and their willingness to help, little Sam who had but days to live in December 2008 continues to be a very happy, healthy, little donkey in November 2011.
I will never be able to thank Kat or the veterinarians and staff at the Brazos Valley Equine Hospital enough for saving Sam's precious life.
Since 2008 I have had occasion to visit Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary on different occasions. Words cannot even begin to explain the wonderful work that is being done there by Kat and dedicated volunteers to save the lives of so many horses and donkeys.
As you can see from my story, Kat doesn't limit her assistance just to the equines she personally rescues, but in diverse ways, assists other equines in need.
Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary, like most rescues, needs help to provide for the care, shelter, bedding, hay, grain, veterinary assistance and supplies, farrier, transportation, and other needs. If you can help, through financial assistance, providing feed, services, or volunteering, I am certain you would find your time and money would be well invested.
With Greatest Appreciation
Patricia, Sam, CiCi, and ScooterBelle
I am retired so now I can devote some of my time to helping others. We recently moved back to Texas and I did a lot of research to find the right place to work at since I love working with horses. Spirit Acres has proven to be just that! The owner is so devoted to helping the horses who have come to her broken or hurt! She takes in horses that others wouldn't and she does everything she can to heal them, not just physically but she also tends to their spirits! She gives everything she has to them!
The best part of all is that being able to work at Spirit Acres has even helped me, it is so refreshing to go up there to help do what I can. The horses are so loving and appreciative that you can't help but want to return as often as possible! This organization is doing such a great thing for these deserving animals!
Spirit Acres is a fun place to spend my time. I can go there as long or as short a time as I want too. The horses just want love and attention. I can give them this, and the horses loved to be loved on. I look forward to volunteering every day I show up at the farm, because I love those horses.
I was introduced to Spirit Acres through a dog they rescued. It truly is an amazing place for all the animals. The horses come to the farm in bad shape, and Kat works very hard to make their stay the very best it can be every day. I was shocked to see pictures of horses when they first came to Spirit Acres, because they were so bad, but Kat spends the time and gives the love these horses need to recover. The respect that the horses have for Kat is a wonderful thing to see. This shows me how dedicated this wonderful lady is to the rescue of these magnificent horses. One has to be very dedicated and persistent to heal these horses, and Spirit Acres is the only place I know of that does this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Although I have not yet been to the Sanctuary, I have donated money for a couple of years now. Kat and I have developed an online friendship because she always responds when I make a contribution. It takes much time and physical stamina to care for large animals so I've no doubt that the time she spends typing a short note to me could be used out at the barn or in the pasture. Her dedication to all aspects of running the Sanctuary is what impresses me and motivates me to continue contributing funds. I recently had an opportunity to meet her in person, and she is just as kind-hearted in person as I've found her to be with her emails. May Spirit Acres and all of its volunteers be blessed for the valuable service they provide!
I volunteered at Spirit Acres for 5 years (2007 through 2011). Although I no longer get to the farm to volunteer, I continue to support the rescue with monthly donations. While volunteering, I rarely felt like I was at a rescue beause the farm had a sense of peacefulness to it. Yes, there was always work to be done, but it was the noble horses that gave the rescue its sense of meaning and beauty. The owner, Kat, is a special person. I have no doubt that she speaks and understands the langage of horses. And having been a horse women her whole life gives her the strength, knowledge and insight to care for the horses that come through the gates to spirit acres. I hope that anyone reading this ,or any of the other reviews, who has thought about getting involved with horses will visit spirit acres website and find a way to be a part of a rescued horses new life. It was becuse of the sponsorship program that spirit acres offered, I was able to sponsor a rescued horse (the horse of my dreams) and adopted him soon after.
From the moment I stepped foot on the farm I KNEW I was in a most special place of healing, recovery and LOVE!! Any free time I have I will find myself there with the horses and the unconditional love that they provide and that myself as a volunteer provide to them. Ms. Kat is extrordinary in her efforts and dedication to the animals there!! It's a VERY Special place ran by a VERY Special Lady!!
Spirit Acres is one of the best examples of an organization giving rescue their everything. Kat Matrician has a love for horses of all shapes and sizes, and a heart big enough to encompass them all.
SpiritAcres is a place that serves as a haven for horses in need. It is run by Kat, who has the heart and determination and resoursefulness to accomplish this great task. I have been there myself and have toured the place with Kat. I've seen the horses and have met some volunteers. SpiritAcres is definately a place that our area needs. Texans have horses...that's a fact. However, some people obtain this great animal without the understanding and knowlege needed for the responsibility. Unfortunately, often times, horses are abandoned, mistreated, starved, even purposely severely abused. In those cases, if the horse is blessed, it is rescued and can go to SpiritAcres. This is an endeavor that I support, though not nearly enough, with enthusiasm.
Kat and Spirit Acre Farms is awesome! Abandoned and neglected horses find a loving, caring home there...Kat works extremely hard to help these horses get healthy, put on weight, and find new homes. Horses do so much for us- they deserve our support!
I first became aware of Spirit Acres in 2006 when, due to financial problems, I had to give up 2 of my family's horses. It was a very hard decision but after visiting the farm and meeting Kat, president of Spirit Acres, our decision was a little easier. While our loved ones were awaiting forever homes we visited them often. We were always welcomed and Kat always had stories for us such as who their new friends were, how they all got along, when they had their feet done, what the vet said about them, who liked a stall and who didn't, etc. The volunteers at the farm were also very helpful. Kat found wonderful homes for our horses and we even visited them at their new homes and were able to see how happy both human and animal were. Without Kat and Spirit Acres I can only imagine what might have happened to our horses. My family and I have been volunteers since. All the horses there are very well taken care of. The volunteers at the farm obviously enjoy their work and love the animals. This farm Absolutely deserves this award.
