Review for Make A Difference, Goa, , India
I came to know of MAD as a few friends in Mangalore are involved with it. Since then, having followed MAD's activities online, I'm proud to note that they're different from most groups in that they get down and work - and believe in bringing about change from the grassroots level, as opposed to moving legislative and political heavyweights. They are unique in that they monitor their students and work actively to retain the ones they have drafted - contributing to progress, and not just one off incidents. They're undoubtedly helping the children they edcucate, but they also ensure that the educated youth of the country do not metamorphasise into an inane, disgruntled lot as a result of their efforts and advances to bring about social development being chronically spurned by red tape. By involving us, they connect us to the true needs of society, bring enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and most contemporary methods of education and a rapport with the children that adults do not have. Being a predominantly part-time, volunteer based, student organisation, however, means that a predominant weakness is in finances, scale of activities, and clout. Funding will no doubt help, but further backing from a bigger NGO / corporate bodies (strictly backing and not interference) would greatly help.
