My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for VIBHA Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, USA
I've been working with Vibha (Washington DC chapter) for over a year now. It has been a very positive experience and I've learnt a great deal about how non-profits work. With Vibha, I've been amazed at how efficiently volunteer time has been used, at how systems are in place, so that even your few hours can go a long way in helping the cause of children's education. While in Bangalore, during my last visit to India, I stopped by a Vibha (partly) sponsored project, the Hope School in Kaval Byrasandra. I got a first hand view of how the effort we put in makes a difference to kids' lives. Many children, who would've otherwise been on the street all day, were spending their time in school. I sat through one of the classes, and greatly appreciated the effort the teacher put in trying to translate the cryptic biology textbook into something the children could relate to. It was also a reminder of the many challenges in trying to bring such children to the education level of those from more privileged homes. The school principal told me that local Vibha volunteers taught special science classes to the 7th standard students (the senior-most class in the school) to help prepare them for their board exams. The role of Vibha, from fund raising in Washington to giving the money to the school to helping the school out with local volunteers, was very inspiring. While the more mundane things in life leave little time to volunteer, I would hope to make a long term commitment and do my bit in helping underprivileged children.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
visiting a Vibha (partly) funded school in Bangalore, India.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Fund raising is not about merely doing work. It is also about being creative and feeling good about it. The Vibha booth has a lot of fun things for children. The kids have a good time, the parents learn a bit about Vibha, and we enjoy the experience.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Generally a positive experience. It is nice interacting with them. While there are many who come and go, the core volunteers are definitely committed.
