Review for People Making a Difference (PMD), Boston, MA, USA
Many years ago, before I got married and had children and was an eager twenty-something working in the Back Bay, I re-discovered my love of volunteering and found People Making A Difference. No pressure, no monthly commitment, just an incredible army of like-minded people who wanted to make a difference in their communities and enjoy thoughtful, well-organized, impactful volunteerism. A few years later, I found myself on the board of a large event on the Boston Common and engaged PMD to make our event even more hospitable, engaging and well-run... and they brought so much to the party, they were invited back year after year as a reliable resource for this nonprofit public health event. Nearly 25 years later, I'm proud to be back in the fold as the organization celebrates a milestone anniversary, and am just as impressed with PMD as I was so many years ago. Few nonprofits stay as focused and true to their mission as People Making A Difference - an unsung hero in Massachusetts, for sure. Happy anniversary PMD!
Review for The Ellie Fund, Needham, MA, USA
In addition to the previous review on how The Ellie Fund impacts families, I wanted to add a few words about the charity's "back of the house" heart. The Ellie Fund and its dedicated staff are not only excellent charitable partners, but are hyperaware of how each penny could best be used making a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families. They are kind, caring and crazy smart administrators and marketers. By raising awareness about supporting families surviving breast cancer through creative high-end fundraising events, they have also heightened the profile of those who choose this cause over many others, and this specific charity as their primary nonprofit for giving in a philanthropic marketplace with many choices. I've never in my 20-year career seen such profound loyalty and love for and within an organization - whether they are "taking care" of event volunteers or making every sponsor, donor and partner feel like they are part of the family. This is a nonprofit organization that loves its staff, volunteers and supporters as well as it cares for the women who are in crisis and need support.
