My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Junior State of America, Oakland, CA, USA
I got involved with the Junior State of America program in my freshman year of high school, and the programs funded and administered by this foundation came to define my high school career. Its programs are extremely effective in engaging high school students in thoughtful discussion about current issues and engaging them in civics. This country has a dire need for greater civic education among youth, and the JSFs dedication to strengthening and providing civic education is certainly a noble goal. This non-profit differs from others involving high school students in that, even at the highest levels of national policy planning, students are not only involved but take roles of leadership. The Governors of each Junior State effectively have full-time jobs with the foundation, and one of them even serves as a voting member of the Board of Trustees. My own personal experience as a Convention Coordinator had me designing and compiling 50-page agendas and interfacing with hotel staff (who took all the students completely seriously). Few organizations tailored to students afford as extensive leadership opportunities as those sponsored by the Junior Statesmen Foundation, and if you would like to benefit youth education in civics nationwide, there is no better cause to support.
