Review for Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions, San Francisco, CA, USA
At 86 yrs, I have both a hobby and a 'raison d'etre' as the French say, and my hobby of caring for my pet birds has given me many sweet stories to tell. I can never complain of being bored. I have rescued several pigeons and I also have ten Lovebirds, plus two cockatiels. But the bird I currently find myself giving more attention to is "Winkie", a white pigeon. I needed another one to keep a lone rescued one company, and I found Winkie at the local Antioch Shelter. He had a bent wing and would probably never be adopted, so I brought him home. He has some grey tailfeathers and lots of energy. He can fly up about 3 or 4 feet and scurries around on his two feet very fast. The pigeon alone, also a white, I allowed outside to fly and he would return to the aviary. One night, though, he did not come home, so Winkie has been alone. There are a couple of wild pigeons who visit and one would like to get inside the cage with Winkie. I put pigeon feed out for them also so Winkie has company. When it is very cold, I bring Winkie inside and he has a large cage in the bird room. I tell him he is inside to "socialize". He likes to be petted and the other pet birds accept his presence. I love him and I think he is a happy fellow. Beth, Brentwood
